El pegador japonés del peso supergallo Kazuki Nakajima tuvo que trabajar duro contra el filipino Kenny “Big Heart” Demecillo, que incluso le dejó tocado en una ocasión, pero terminó logrando un KOT en el octavo asalto que le permitirá ingresar en el ranking WBO. Viernes 17 de febrero
La velada de ShoBox: The New Generation vio al peso superwélter estadounidense Ardreal Holmes lograr una merecida victoria por decisión dividida en un choque de estilos ante Ismael Villarreal en el que mostró su destreza boxística y su excesivo uso del clinch. Respecto al evento de Frank Warren, todo fue según lo previsto. El peso pesado David Adeleye no tuvo ni para empezar con el muy limitado Dmytro “Bison” Bezus, al que derrotó en el segundo asalto. Pasando a la velada italiana, en el combate estelar el excampeón de Italia del peso pluma Davide Tassi impuso su precisión ante el español Jose Antonio Sánchez Romero y le asestó su primera derrota con un KOT en el décimo y último asalto. Crónica y vídeo del evento siguiendo el enlace.
En el semifondo Claudio Grande se proclamó campeón de Italia del peso gallo capturando el cinturón vacante con una decisión unánime en un muy igualado combate ante Jonathan Sannino. Crónica del combate siguiendo el enlace.
Finalmente en cuanto al viernes, el peso pluma mexicano Cristian “Lacandonsito” Cruz 20(10KO)-6-1 no logró extender a cinco su racha de triunfos antes del límite, sino que sólo pudo empatar contra Luis Ronaldo Ruelas 14(11KO)-2(2)-2. Por ello, aunque no fue una debacle para los intereses de Cruz, sin duda el resultado fue mucho más valioso para el no favorito Ruelas, que encadena su segundo meritorio empate como visitante y muestra que, tras algunos resultados negativos en el pasado, podría estar entrando en una fase positiva para su carrera.
Sábado 18 de febrero
El campeón WBA del peso pluma Leigh Wood no llegó a retener por primera vez su corona, ya que fue batido por KOT en el séptimo asalto a manos del pegador mexicano Mauricio Lara, ahora nuevo titular mundial. Crónica del combate siguiendo el link.
La pelea coestelar fue un aburrido duelo en el que el campeón británico del peso superligero Dalton Smith tuvo una decepcionante actuación en su triunfo unánime sobre Billy Allington. En el tramo inicial de la cartelera principal, el peso supergallo Gamal Yafai fue derribado tres veces y vencido por decisión unánime a manos del argentino Diego Alberto Ruiz, que se anotó el mayor triunfo de su carrera, mientras que el peso crucero Cheavon Clarke fue incapaz de noquear a un peso semipesado inactivo, con mal encaje y nivel bajo como Israel Duffus. En cuanto al evento de Golden Boy Promotions, la eliminatoria WBC del peso supergallo entre Luis “Pantera” Nery y Azat “Crazy A” Hovhannisyan fue una tremenda batalla llena de acción en la que Nery terminó imponiéndose por KOT en el penúltimo asalto. La mayor sorpresa de la jornada fue la derrota del prospecto español del peso supermedio José Luis Navarro Jr. ante el veterano y venido a menos Ronny Landaeta, que se anotó una victoria por KOT en el sexto asalto con la que se coronó campeón de España. Crónica y vídeo del evento siguiendo el link.
El sábado se produjeron estos otros resultados:
-El argentino Kevin Luís Muñoz 16(6KO)-1(1) venció, en combate del peso gallo, al invicto venezolano Isaac Arias 11(9KO)-1 por decisión unánime (triple 97-93). Por ello, ahora su posición en el top 15 IBF supermosca seguramente se traslade a la división superior.
-Otro top 15 con aspiraciones en el peso gallo que sumó un triunfo por decisión unánime fue el estadounidense Dylan Price 16(10KO)-0, que en su caso superó al filipino Jobert Álvarez 20(7KO)-5(1)-2 con cartulinas de 100-90 y doble 98-92. Todo parece indicar que durante este año Price disputará una prueba de fuego decisiva.
-El exaspirante mundial rumano Ronald Gavril 23(18KO)-3 venció por decisión de los jueces al estadounidense Khainell Wheeler 7(6KO)-3(1) y capturó un título menor WBC que le llevará a la larga lista del organismo. Con todo, en un futuro combate de calado en la división el veterano Gavril probablemente se quede bastante corto.
-El joven peso wélter griego Panagiotis Tsochataridis 11(6KO)-0-1 no se dejó sorprender por el francés Melvin Moreau 11(4KO)-6(2)-1, al que venció por decisión unánime (100-90, 99-92 y 97-93), de modo que de momento parece que se está desarrollando de la manera adecuada y que, de seguir así, en no mucho tiempo encarará tests ante rivales por encima del nivel de la piedra de toque continental.
-El exmonarca mundial Ganigan López 38(19KO)-12(5) rebotó de su derrota ante Carlos Cañizales derrotando por decisión a Carlos Vado Bautista 9(2KO)-9(1)-1, aunque es evidente que su mejor momento ha quedado muy atrás y que tendrá difícil lograr un gran éxito en la división mosca.

In the ShoBox: The New Generation evening, American super welterweight Ardreal Holmes earned a deserved split decision victory in a clash of styles against Ismael Villarreal, bout in which the winner showed his boxing ability and an excessive use of the clinch. Regarding the Frank Warren card, everything went according to plan. Heavyweight David Adeleye didn’t have any difficulty with the limited Dmytro “Bison” Bezus, whom he defeated in the second round. Moving on to the Italian bill, in the main event former Italian featherweight champion Davide Tassi imposed his precision against the Spaniard Jose Antonio Sánchez Romero and dealt him his first stoppage defeat with a tenth-round TKO. Article and video of the event following the link.
In the co-main event, Claudio Grande was proclaimed Italian bantamweight champion capturing the vacant belt with a unanimous decision in a very even fight against Jonathan Sannino. Read more following the link.
Finally as for Friday, Mexican featherweight Cristian «Lacandonsito» Cruz 20(10KO)-6-1 failed to extend his winning streak to five, as he had to settle for a draw against Luis Ronaldo Ruelas 14(11KO)-2(2)-2. For this reason, although it was not a debacle for Cruz’s interests, without a doubt the result was much more valuable for the underdog Ruelas, who strings his second meritorious draw as a visitor and shows that, after some negative results in the past, he could be entering a positive phase for his career.
Saturday, February 18
WBA world featherweight champion Leigh Wood lost his full belt in his first defense, as he was beaten by seventh-round TKO at the hands of Mexican puncher Mauricio Lara, now the new world titleholder. Read more following the link.
The co-main event was a boring duel in which British super lightweight champion Dalton Smith put in a disappointing performance in his unanimous win over Billy Allington. On the other hand, promising Irish lightweight Gary Cully got rid of American Wilfredo Flores in just two rounds. Read more following the link.
In the first part of the main card, super bantamweight Gamal Yafai was dropped three times and was defeated by unanimous decision by Argentinian Diego Alberto Ruiz, who scored the biggest win of his career, while cruiserweight Cheavon Clarke was unable to knock out an inactive light heavyweight with low level and poor chin like Israel Duffus. The biggest upset of the day was the defeat of Spanish super middleweight prospect José Luis Navarro Jr. against the veteran and faded Ronny Landaeta, who scored a TKO victory in the sixth round with which he was crowned national champion. Article and video of the event following the link.
Saturday had these other results:
-Argentinian Kevin Luís Muñoz 16(6KO)-1(1) defeated by unanimous decision (triple 97-93), in a bantamweight bout, the unbeaten Venezuelan Isaac Arias 11(9KO)-1. Therefore, now his position in the IBF super flyweight top 15 will surely move to the higher division.
-Another top 15 with aspirations at bantamweight that added a victory by unanimous decision was the American Dylan Price 16(10KO)-0, who beat Filipino Jobert Álvarez 20(7KO)-5(1)-2. The scorecards were 100-90 and double 98-92. Everything seems to indicate that during this year Price will face a decisive test.
-Former world title challenger Ronald Gavril 23(18KO)-3 defeated American Khainell Wheeler 7(6KO)-3(1) by decision and captured a WBC minor title that will put his name on the long ranking of the organization. Still, in a future important bout in the division the veteran Gavril will likely come up pretty short.
-The young Greek welterweight Panagiotis Tsochataridis 11(6KO)-0-1 was not surprised by the Frenchman Melvin Moreau 11(4KO)-6(2)-1, whom he defeated by unanimous decision (100-90, 99- 92 and 97-93). For the moment it seems that Tsochataridis is developing properly and that, if it continues like this, soon he will face tests against opponents above the level of the continental stepping stone.
-Former world champion Ganigan López 38(19KO)-12(5) bounced back from his defeat against Carlos Cañizales defeating Carlos Vado Bautista 9(2KO)-9(1)-1 by decision, although it is evident that his prime is far behind and that it will be difficult for him to achieve a great success in the flyweight division.
