Durante los últimos cuatro años y medio la carrera de Murat Gassiev 29(22KO)-1 ha sido muy frustrante, habiendo realizado en total en este tiempo sólo tres combates, dos de ellos de un solo asalto de duración y el restante de cuatro. Pero por fin la semana que viene su carrera en el peso pesado se topará con su mayor obstáculo hasta la fecha, o sea contra un rival con un nivel teóricamente muy superior al de Seferi, Wallisch y Welch.
El viernes de la semana que viene, en el Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concerts Complex de Ereván, Armenia, Gassiev se enfrentará al invicto estadounidense Mike Balogun 20(16KO)-0, un boxeador con buena pegada, zurdo, que ha tenido un rendimiento bastante sólido en su avance hasta el momento en la división y que acabó en sólo un asalto con el invicto Trey Lippe Morrison.
Así, Gassiev se medirá a un oponente que no tiene nada que ver con los modestísimos rivales que ha tenido en el peso máximo hasta ahora, ya que por primera vez tendrá delante a un púgil con una pegada realmente amenazante y con la motivación y la ambición para buscar la victoria y no limitarse a caer a la lona y cobrar la bolsa. De ese modo, el viernes 3 de marzo obtendremos muchas más respuesta sobre el potencial de Gassiev y Balogun en la categoría de los +90,7 kg, y uno de los dos recibirá un fuerte impulso a sus aspiraciones, en un combate que seguramente resultará entretenido.
