El Korakuen Hall de Tokio, Japón, presenciará el jueves un gran paso adelante para un prospecto local. Y es que el peso superpluma Toshihiro Suzuki 3(3KO)-0 se medirá, en su cuarto combate profesional, a un púgil competente, con pegada y con 90 rounds boxeados más que él como el filipino Virgel Vitor 21(14KO)-2(1). De todos modos, Suzuki tiene proyección, y Vitor ha tenido un par de malas derrotas, por lo que el púgil nipón será favorito para ganar.
Viernes 25 de agosto
En cuanto al viernes, sólo se pueden destacar tres escenarios. Uno de ellos será el Overtime Elite Arena de Atlanta, Estados Unidos, desde donde DAZN emitirá una cartelera en la que el prospecto del peso medio Lorenzo Simpson 13(7KO)-0, boxeador zurdo con una buena carrera amateur, afrontará un test a ocho rounds ante el experimentado y duro mexicano Vladimir Hernández 13(6KO)-5(2). Este último se ha medido a rivales como Israil Madrimov, Jesús Ramos o Souleymane Cissokho, y además logró derrotar contra pronóstico a Julian Williams, por lo que parece una pelea bastante adecuada para medir el desarrollo de Simpson.
Respecto al respaldo, otro peso medio, el griego Andreas Katzourakis 10(8KO)-0, buscará su tercera victoria en un duelo pactado a ocho asaltos midiéndose al estadounidense Raphael Igbokwe 16(7KO)-4(1), que aguantó diez rounds contra el arriba citado Madrimov.
El viernes también hay que mencionar una pugna del peso mosca que se desarrollará en el Domo del CODE Jalisco de Guadalajara, México, televisada por ESPN Knockout, en la que el invicto Sergio Mendoza 19(17KO)-0 afrontará quizás el mayor reto de su carrera hasta la fecha ante el fuerte y heterodoxo Erick Omar “Habanerito” López 16(10KO)-9(1)-2.
Por otro lado, en las instalaciones de la Unión de Padres Los Toritos de Monte Grande, Argentina, emitido por TyC Sports, se producirá un combate del peso ligero en el que el joven Alan Dutra 10(6KO)-0 pasará de las peleas a seis rounds a una a diez asaltos midiéndose a un púgil con más experiencia de calidad que él como el exaspirante al título argentino Gerardo Antonio Pérez 9(2KO)-3-1.
Sábado 26 de agosto
Pese a lo muchísimo que se ha hablado durante este año sobre potenciales combates del peso pesado (que al final no se han llegado a pactar), el hecho es que la división está bastante estancada. Por ello, será un cierto respiro para esa situación que se produzca un campeonato mundial con los títulos unificados WBA, WBO e IBF en juego entre el monarca Oleksandr Usyk 20(13KO)-0 y el retador Daniel Dubois 19(18KO)-1(1).
En cuanto a habilidad, boxeo e inteligencia, Usyk está a un nivel completamente diferente al de un Dubois que fue diseccionado por el tosco Joe Joyce. Sin embargo, hay que tener en cuenta que Usyk ha pasado ciertos apuros en algunos de sus combates (por ejemplo, Gassiev le dañó con un golpe al torso), que Dubois es muy potente y que este último debería ser consciente de que tiene imposible ganar un duelo de astucia. Por ello, aunque es difícil esperar otra cosa que no sea el triunfo de Usyk, especialmente tras la actuación de Dubois ante Lerena, ciertamente esta es una de esas ocasiones en las que el aspirante al menos tiene la oportunidad del pegador.
En el respaldo de este evento que tendrá lugar en el Estadio Municipal de Breslavia, Polonia, emitido por ESPN+, TNT Sports, etc., el peso ligero ucraniano Denys Berinchyk 17(9KO)-0 intentará mantenerse en el top 5 WBO y realizar comparaciones enfrentándose a Anthony Yigit 27(10KO)-3(3)-1; el ucraniano Dmytro Mytrofanov 13(6KO)-0-1 y el británico Hamzah Sheeraz 17(13KO)-0 se verán las caras en un duelo entre invictos peso medio en el que el segundo será favorito; y el peso medio polaco, top 10 en tres organismos, Fiodor Czerkaszyn 22(14KO)-0 regresará a casa después de tres victorias en Estados Unidos enfrentándose al congoleño Anauel Ngamissengue 12(8KO)-0.
En este mismo día, Top Rank aprovechará la atención que recibirá la categoría del peso pesado para organizar un evento en el que participarán destacados invictos de la división. En el cartel, que tendrá lugar en el Hard Rock Hotel & Casino de Tulsa, Estados Unidos, emitido por ESPN, el prospecto Jared Anderson 15(14KO)-0, que llega de una actuación por debajo de las expectativas ante Charles Martin, buscará recuperar moral con una fácil victoria sobre el veterano Andrii Rudenko 35(21KO)-6(1). Además, el peso pesado kazajo Zhan Kossobutskiy 19(18KO)-0 tratará de sumar la mayor victoria de su carrera ante el nigeriano Efe Ajagba 17(13KO)-1, que fue considerado muy prometedor en el pasado no tan lejano, y el insigne prospecto uzbeko Bakhodir Jalolov 12(12KO)-0 continuará su destructivo avance contra el nigeriano Onoriode Ehwarieme 20(19KO)-2(2).
El sábado se desarrollarán también otros dos campeonatos mundiales. Uno de ellos tendrá lugar en el Coliseo Roberto Clemente de San Juan, Puerto Rico, donde el monarca mundial WBO del peso mínimo, el local Óscar Collazo 7(5KO)-0, será muy claro favorito para vencer al filipino Garen Diagan 10(5KO)-3(1), quien en teoría está bastante por debajo del nivel de su compatriota Melvin Jerusalem, ante quien Collazo se coronó.
El otro campeonato mundial será por el título WBC del peso supergallo femenino, cinturón que será puesto en juego en el Centro de Convenciones Morelos en Xochitepec, México, por la monarca Yamileth Mercado 21(5KO)-3 ante la retadora Paulette Valenzuela 16(4KO)-2, cuya única derrota reciente llegó por ajustada decisión y como visitante ante la entonces titular mundial Segolene Lefebvre. El combate será emitido por TV Azteca.
En la jornada también se producirán estos otros enfrentamientos:
-En el Suamlum Night Bazaar de Bangkok, Tailandia, el tailandés Nawaphon Kaikanha 58(48KO)-2(1)-1 y el filipino Vincent Astrolabio 18(13KO)-4(1) combatirán en una eliminatoria WBC del peso gallo para decidir al retador obligatorio de Alexandro Barrios.
-En el Quorum Córdoba Hotel de Córdoba, Argentina, emitido por TyC Sports y ProBox, el peso medio local Sebastián Papeschi 19(7KO)-4(2) tratará de encadenar su segundo triunfo, tras su derrota ante el prometedor Meiirim Nursultanov, enfrentándose al mexicano Diego Carmona 13(11KO)-1(1).
-En Le Meridien Dubai Hotel de Dubái, Emitados Árabes Unidos, el peso superwélter tailandés Tewa Kiram 49(24KO)-1(1), 10º IBF y 15º WBA, buscará una de sus mayores victorias ante el competente chino Baishanbo Nasiyiwula 17(7KO)-5(1)-1.
-En el Commerce Casino de Commerce, Estados Unidos, emitido por UFC Fight Pass, el prospecto del peso superwélter Callum Walsh 7(6KO)-0 se verá las caras con un rival con experiencia de nivel (aunque en el peso superligero) como el argentino Juan José Velasco 24(15KO)-4(3), que se ha medido a nombres como Regis Prograis o Elvis Rodríguez.
-En el Eventfinda Stadium de Auckland, Nueva Zelanda, el 7º IBF y 13º WBO del peso semipesado Jerome Pampellone 16(9KO)-0 intentará mejorar su posicionamiento peleando por dos títulos menores contra el sudafricano Luvuyo Sizani 7(3KO)-0.

The Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan, will be the venue in which a local prospect will face a big step up on Thursday. Super featherweight Toshihiro Suzuki 3(3KO)-0 will battle, in his fourth professional fight, a competent boxer, with punch and with 90 more rounds boxed than him like Filipino Virgel Vitor 21(14KO)-2(1). Anyway, Suzuki has projection, and Vitor has had a couple of bad defeats, so the Japanese fighter will be the favorite to win.
Friday, August 25
As for Friday, only three events can be mentioned. One of them will take place at the Overtime Elite Arena in Atlanta, United States, broadcast by DAZN, and in it middleweight prospect Lorenzo Simpson 13(7KO)-0, a southpaw with a good amateur career, will face an eight-round test against the experienced and tough Mexican Vladimir Hernández 13(6KO)-5(2). The latter has squared off against opponents like Israil Madrimov, Jesús Ramos or Souleymane Cissokho, and he also managed to upset Julian Williams, so it seems a quite suitable fight to measure Simpson’s development.
Regarding the support, another middleweight, Greek Andreas Katzourakis 10(8KO)-0, will seek his third victory in an eight-round bout against American Raphael Igbokwe 16(7KO)-4(1), who reached the final bell in a ten-rounder against the above mentioned Madrimov.
It can also be highlighted a flyweight fight that will take place at the Domo del CODE Jalisco in Guadalajara, Mexico, televised by ESPN Knockout, in which undefeated Sergio Mendoza 19(17KO)-0 will face perhaps the biggest challenge of his career to date against the strong and unorthodox Erick Omar “Habanerito” López 16(10KO)-9(1)-2.
On the other hand, at the facilities of the Unión de Padres “Los Toritos” in Monte Grande, Argentina, broadcast by TyC Sports, young lightweight Alan Dutra 10(6KO)-0 will jump from six-rounders to his first ten round bout facing a fighter with more quality experience than him such as former Argentine title challenger Gerardo Antonio Pérez 9(2KO)-3-1.

Despite the huge amount of talk about potential heavyweight bouts (which in the end have not materialized), the fact is that the division is quite stagnant. For this reason, the world championship fight between unified WBA, WBO and IBF titlist Oleksandr Usyk 20(13KO)-0 and challenger Daniel Dubois 19(18KO)-1(1) will be a bit of a relief from this situation.
In terms of skill, boxing capacity and intelligence, Usyk is on a whole other level than Dubois, who was tactically dissected by the crude Joe Joyce. However, it should not be overlooked that Usyk has had some difficulties in some of his fights (for example, Gassiev hurt him with a body shot), that Dubois is very powerful and that the latter should be aware that it is impossible for him to win the fight in a duel of cunning. So while it’s hard to expect anything other than a victory for Usyk, especially after Dubois’ performance against Lerena, this is certainly one of those occasions where the challenger at least has a puncher’s chance.
As for the undercard of this event, which will take place at Wroclaw’s Municipal Stadium in Poland, broadcast on ESPN+, TNT Sports, etc., Ukrainian lightweight Denys Berinchyk 17(9KO)-0 will try to keep his position in the WBO top 5, and make comparisons, facing Anthony Yigit 27(10KO)-3(3)-1; Ukrainian Dmytro Mytrofanov 13(6KO)-0-1 and British Hamzah Sheeraz 17(13KO)-0 will face each other in a duel between undefeated middleweights in which the second will be favorite; and Polish middleweight, top 10 in three organizations, Fiodor Czerkaszyn 22(14KO)-0 will return home after three victories in the United States facing Congolese Anauel Ngamissengue 12(8KO)-0.
