El evento de Eye of the Tiger Management terminó con un interesante cruce, si bien empañado por espantosas tarjetas. A pesar de que es posible debatir sobre si el invicto top 3 del peso supermedio Erik Bazinyan mereció el triunfo ante el estadounidense Alantez Fox, que hizo suficiente para, cuanto menos, haber conseguido un empate, dos de los jueces dieron amplias cartulinas a favor del local. De todos modos, las dificultades de Bazinyan nada tuvieron que ver con las sufridas por su compañero de escuadra del peso superligero Yvess Ulysse Jr. Y es que éste recibió un tremendo revés a sus aspiraciones al ser derrotado en menos de un minuto por el mexicano Gabriel Gollaz Valenzuela. Viernes 3 de febrero
El mexicano Emanuel “Vaquero” Navarrete cumplió su objetivo de proclamarse campeón mundial en una tercera división capturando el vacante cinturón WBO del peso superpluma con un KOT en el noveno asalto ante el australiano Liam Wilson. De todos modos, Navarrete fue derribado duramente en el cuarto asalto y el árbitro le dio mucho tiempo extra para que se recuperase. Crónica del combate siguiendo el link.
En el choque coestelar el peso superligero estadounidense Arnold Barboza Jr. se anotó su mayor victoria hasta la fecha venciendo por decisión unánime al puertorriqueño José Pedraza, quien erró su estrategia al centrarse demasiado tiempo en presionar. Crónica del combate siguiendo el link.

Sábado 4 de febrero
La puertorriqueña Amanda Serrano y la mexicana Erika Cruz ofrecieron un tremendo enfrentamiento con muchos intensos intercambios. Aunque la pelea estuvo contendida, finalmente fue Serrano quien logró la victoria por decisión unánime, convirtiéndose en campeona indiscutida del peso pluma y emplazándose a una revancha contra Katie Taylor a continuación. La estadounidense Alycia Baumgardner también salió del evento coronada campeona indiscutida, en su caso del peso superpluma, ya que derribó dos veces a la brava francesa Elhem Mekhaled para lograr un triunfo por decisión unánime. En los combates preliminares del evento Serrano-Cruz, Skye Nicolson, Ramla Ali y Aaron Aponte sumaron triunfos por decisión unánime ante Tania Álvarez, Avril Mathie y Joshua David Rivera, mientras que Shadasia Green y Harley Mederos se impusieron por KOT a Elin Cederroos y Julio Madera. Respecto al oro olímpico ruso Albert “AL BA” Batyrgaziev 8(6KO)-0, éste se anotó su mayor victoria hasta la fecha como profesional derribando y batiendo por KOT en el noveno episodio al excampeón mundial panameño Jezzrel “El Invisible” Corrales 26(10KO)-5(2), que sufrió con esta la segunda derrota antes del límite de su carrera. Así, Batyrgaziev tomará impulso en su andadura en el peso ligero, si bien sigue pareciendo que tendría muchas más posibilidades de éxito si descendiese, al menos, una división.
Por otro lado, en el evento de Universum el peso pesado ruso-francés Mourad “White Wolf” Aliev 7(5KO)-0 también terminó en el noveno asalto con el alemán Ali “Iron” Kiydin 16(15KO)-2(2), si bien tuvo más trabajo del esperado. Por ello, en lugar de poner sus miras en la aparición en el top 15, debería encarar de momento bastantes peleas de desarrollo útiles para solidificar su rendimiento. El sábado también se produjeron estos otros duelos:
-El peso superligero alemán Timo Schwarzkopf 22(13KO)-5 venció por controvertida decisión unánime (95-94, 95-94 y 98-92) al exmonarca mundial mexicano Miguel “Títere” Vázquez 44(17KO)-12(3), si bien quizás el “triunfo” le servirá para recibir una llamada para hacer de piedra de toque de algún boxeador con aspiraciones internacionales.
-El número 1 WBA del peso mosca, el japonés Seigo Yuri Akui 18(11KO)-2(2)-1, no se dejó sorprender por el filipino Jayson Vayson 10(5KO)-1-1, a quien venció por amplísima decisión unánime (triple 100-90) para mantenerse a la espera de alcanzar el primer mundial de su carrera.
-El peso superligero argentino José “Sansón” Rosa 19(14KO)-0 acabó por KO en el cuarto asalto con el colombiano Didier Castillo 7(5KO)-2(1)-1, que fue otro rival demasiado sencillo como para prepararle para el difícil top 15 que está muy cerca de alcanzar en el WBC.

The Eye of the Tiger Management event ended with an interesting fight, albeit marred by awful scorecards. Although it is possible to debate whether undefeated top 3 super middleweight Erik Bazinyan deserved the win against American Alantez Fox, who did enough to at least earn a draw, two of the judges gave wide scorecards in favor of the local fighter. In any case, Bazinyan’s difficulties were nothing compared to those suffered by his squadmate, the super lightweight Yvess Ulysse Jr. This fighter received a tremendous blow to his aspirations, since he was defeated in less than a minute by Mexican Gabriel Golláz Valenzuela. Mexican Emanuel “Vaquero” Navarrete fulfilled his goal of becoming world champion in a third weight class by capturing the vacant WBO super featherweight belt with a ninth-round TKO over Australian Liam Wilson. However, Navarrete was knocked down hard in the fourth round and was given plenty of extra time by the referee to recover. Read more following the link.
In the co-main event, American super lightweight Arnold Barboza Jr. scored his biggest victory to date beating Puerto Rican José Pedraza by unanimous decision. Pedraza chose a wrong strategy focusing for too long on trying to put pressure. Read more following the link.

Puerto Rican Amanda Serrano and Mexican Erika Cruz offered a tremendous matchup with many intense exchanges. Although the fight was contested, it was ultimately Serrano who claimed the unanimous decision win, becoming undisputed featherweight champion and clearing the last obstacle before a rematch against Katie Taylor. American Alycia Baumgardner also left the ring crowned undisputed champion, in her case at super featherweight, as she dropped the brave Frenchman Elhem Mekhaled twice and achieved a unanimous decision win. However, the judges’ cards were corruptly wide. Read more following the link.

Regarding the Russian Olympic gold medalist Albert “AL BA” Batyrgaziev 8(6KO)-0, he obtained his biggest victory to date as a professional knocking down and beating by ninth-round TKO former world champion Jezzrel “El Invisible” Corrales 26(10KO)-5(2), who suffered with this the second stoppage defeat of his career. Thus, Batyrgaziev gained momentum in his run at lightweight, although it still seems that he would have a much better chance of success if he moved down at least one division.
On the other hand, in the Universum event the Russian-French heavyweight Mourad “White Wolf” Aliev 7(5KO)-0 also finished in the ninth round his bout against the German Ali “Iron” Kiydin 16(15KO)-2(2), although he had more work than expected. So instead of setting his sights on appearing in the top 15, for now he should face plenty of useful development fights to try to solidify his performance. -Argentinian super lightweight José “Sansón” Rosa 19(14KO)-0 beat by fourth-round KO Colombian Didier Castillo 7(5KO)-2(1)-1, who was another opponent too easy to prepare him for the hard top 15 that he is very close to reaching in the WBC.
