La derrota que el peso superligero canadiense Yvess Ulysse Jr. 22(12KO)-3(1) padeció ante Ismael Barroso en 2019 fue un gran jarro de agua fría a sus aspiraciones, pero con cuatro victorias consecutivas había regresado a las clasificaciones (era 14º WBC) y apuntaba de nuevo a una pugna decisiva. Antes de ella, Ulysse pretendía afianzar su posición y comparar su rendimiento al de Montana Love peleando contra el mexicano Gabriel Gollaz Valenzuela 26(16KO)-3(1)-1, quien hizo estallar por los aires su planes con un triunfo en menos de un minuto.
Ulysse tomó la iniciativa e intentó presionar a su rival, manteniéndose en la distancia media, por lo que Gollaz lo tuvo cerca para intentar contragolpearle con potentes golpes de poder. La arriesgada táctica del canadiense ante un boxeador más potente y ofensivamente más peligroso no tardó en costarle cara, ya que tras verse frenado por varios jabs y quedarse estático en la distancia media-corta, un certero uppercut diestro al mentón le arrojó duramente a la lona. Ulysse se levantó con mucha dificultad y en muy mal estado, así que el árbitro no tuvo más remedio que parar el combate.
Con este resultado, mientras Ulysse, que está ya más cerca del final que del inicio de su carrera, padece su primera derrota antes del límite y prácticamente se despide de sus sueños mundialistas, Gollaz se anota su segundo gran triunfo como visitante tras su victoria sobre Robbie Davies Jr. en 2021. Con estos éxitos sumados a su ajustada derrota ante Montana Love en una velada de Matchroom Boxing el año pasado, seguramente al mexicano le espere alguna otra buena oportunidad en esta temporada, más aún pudiendo lograr ahora un puesto en el top 15 WBC.

Ulysse took the initiative and tried to put pressure on his opponent, staying in the middle range, so Gollaz had him close to try to counter him with powerful shots. Ulysse got up with great difficulty and in very bad condition, so the referee had no choice but to stop the fight.
With this result, Ulysse, who is already closer to the end than to the start of his career, suffers his first stoppage defeat and practically says goodbye to his world title dreams. For his part, Gollaz scores his second great upset win as a visitor after his victory over Robbie Davies Jr. in 2021. With these successes added to his close defeat against Montana Love in a Matchroom Boxing evening last year, surely another good opportunity awaits the Mexican this season, even more so now that he could achieve a position in the WBC top 15.
