Miércoles 22 de marzo
El miércoles se produjo una nueva velada de ProBox, siendo en este caso el combate estelar un choque del peso ligero en el que el canadiense Mohamed Soumaoro estuvo a otro nivel que el invicto mexicano Angel Vázquez, al que terminó batiendo por KOT en el octavo round. En el respaldo del Soumaoro-Vázquez, el peso wélter puertorriqueño Axl Meléndez sorprendió al prospecto Demontaze Duncan y le asestó su primera derrota, mientras que el peso superligero Omar Rosario no tuvo problema alguno para derrotar rápidamente a Zach Hill. Crónica siguiendo el enlace.
Jueves 23 de marzo
El prometedor peso supermedio francés Christian “Solide” Mbilli tuvo su pelea más exigente hasta la fecha el jueves, ya que el ecuatoriano Carlos Góngora le dejó tocado en dos ocasiones. Sin embargo, Mbilli lidió con las dificultades, desgastó a su contrincante y se hizo con un merecido triunfo por decisión. En el respaldo Simon Kean y Steve Claggett sumaron triunfos. Viernes 24 de marzo
Dado que el argentino Braian Suárez fue baja de última hora, el excampeón de la Commonwealth del peso semipesado Lyndon “King” Arthur se enfrentó al sustituto Boris Crighton, con quien sostuvo un táctico, monótono e igualado combate en el que sólo marcó la diferencia con un knockdown final a pesar de las corruptas cartulinas de los jueces. En este mismo evento, el peso superligero Conah Walker empezó bien presionando a Kane Gardner, si bien este último reaccionó y con un buen boxeo dinámico le derrotó por decisión unánime. En el cartel también sumaron triunfos Sultan Zaurbek y Chloe Watson. Crónica siguiendo el enlace.
Respecto a la velada de OPI, el peso supermedio Ivan Zucco 17(14KO)-0 tuvo una actuación bastante sólida ante el resistente y voluntarioso británico Germaine Brown 12(3KO)-2, ante quien impuso sus bloqueos y su potencia para lograr una buena victoria por decisión unánime (triple 99-91). Así, aunque todavía parece pronto para que apunte a los nombres que tiene situados por encima de él en el ranking WBC, sin duda parece listo para disputar un campeonato UE ante Gustave Tamba.
En el campeonato de Italia del peso superwélter Francesco Russo 12(10KO)-3(3) demostró una vez más que tiene tanta vulnerabilidad como pegada, perdiendo contra pronóstico a manos de Christian Mazzon 10(4KO)-4, que le batió por KOT en el cuarto round. No obstante, es cuestionable que Mazzon, que prácticamente ha perdido todos sus combates destacados, vaya a poder sostener ahora una buena racha de trinfos.
El viernes también se produjeron estos otros combates:
-El peso minimosca John Paul Gabunilas 11(7KO)-1 boxeó mucho mejor que en su anterior combate y, enfrentándose a un oponente más sencillo que Jesse Espinas como el indonesio Wandi Priman Hulu 2(0KO)-1(1)-1, se impuso por KOT en el sexto round. De todos modos, aunque reparó algunos errores y ahora aparecerá en el ranking WBO, sigue teniendo excesos de confianza que le pueden costar caros.
-El imbatido peso supermedio Bernardin Jakaj 14(8KO)-0 superó satisfactoriamente su test ante Marko Nikolić 30(12KO)-3(2) derrotándolo por decisión unánime (100-89, 100-89, 99-90), necesitando centrarse ahora sobre todo en obtener experiencia de calidad.
-Pese a sufrir una cuenta, Carla Ayelén “Muñeca” Merino 11(2KO)-2 logró desquitarse y derrotar por decisión unánime (triple 9-92) a Débora Vanesa Gómez 8(1KO)-9-2 en un campeonato de Argentina y de Sudámerica del peso supermosca. Merino, de 23 años, está en una racha de ocho triunfos, y todo parece indicar que ahora deberían llegarle los combates más importantes que ha disputado en su carrera hasta la fecha.
Sábado 25 de marzo
Durante el primer tramo el hábil boxeo de Caleb Plant le puso por delante, pero posteriormente David Benavídez le llevó a aguas cada vez más profundas con su presión y sus golpes de poder y terminó haciéndose con una clara victoria por decisión unánime con la que inició una nueva fase en su trayectoria. En cuanto al prometedor peso superwélter Jesús Ramos, éste hizo toda una declaración de intenciones derribando, anulando y venciendo por KOT en el séptimo asalto a Joey Spencer, Crónica siguiendo el enlace.
Como parte también del evento Benavídez-Plant se produjo un resultado controvertido, puesto que el peso ligero Chris Colbert fue derribado y dañado varias veces por José Valenzuela pero los jueces le terminaron dando un triunfo unánime. Crónica siguiendo el enlace.
La cartelera principal se inició con el peso wélter Cody Crowley ganando una eliminatoria WBC ante Abel Ramos dando nuevas muestras de su altísimo ritmo, su tenacidad y su habilidad en corta. Crónica siguiendo el enlace.
Respecto al cartel de Top Rank, José Carlos Ramírez 28(18KO)-1 presionó con dureza, trabajó bien al torso y, aunque su oponente hizo un esfuerzo notable hacia la mitad por intentar aguantar el terreno, logró desgastar y quebrar a Richard Commey 30(27KO)-5(2)-1, que terminó perdiendo por KO en el undécimo asalto por un gancho al cuerpo. Dado que este combate recibió finalmente la etiqueta de eliminatoria WBC, en teoría Ramírez vuelve a estar al alcance de una pelea ante el campeón Regis Prograis. De todos modos, como Ramírez ya evitó una vez un encuentro ante Prograis usando como excusa la repartición de la bolsa, muchos dudan respecto a que esta pelea termine produciéndose.
En el semifondo, Seniesa Estrada 24(9KO)-0 puso de manifiesto una vez más que se la debe considerar una top 10 libra por libra dominando y derrotando a la invicta monarca alemana Tina Rupprecht 12(3KO)-1-1, a la que superó atacando, contragolpeando, jabeando, esquivando, cambiando de guardia, etc. Con el triunfo, Estrada unificó los cinturones WBC-WBA del peso mínimo y resulta indudable que partiría como favorita en una posible pelea por el título indiscutido ante Yokasta Valle.
La cartelera de BOXXER tuvo la desgracia de contar con la participación del campeón mundial WBO del peso crucero Lawrence Okolie, que volvió a ofrecer un nefasto espectáculo y provocó los abucheos del público en su triunfo por decisión sobre un David Light mucho más pequeño que él. Las peleas de acompañamiento principales fueron un brevísimo y desparejadísimo combate en el que el bronce olímpico Frazer Clarke ni se tuvo que esforzar para derrotar a Bogdan Dinu y un contendido campeonato inglés del peso superpluma en el que Michael Gómez Jr. se coronó con una decisión dividida ante Levi Giles. Por lo que se refiere al evento de Frank Warren, el invicto prospecto del peso supergallo Andrew Cain 10(9KO)-1 fue otra víctima más del especialista en victorias contra pronóstico Ionut Baluta 16(3KO)-4: Cain tumbó dos veces en el asalto inicial a Baluta antes de ser él mismo derribado y perder por decisión unánime (96-91, 92-95, 93-94). Con este triunfo Baluta rebotó de su tropiezo ante Liam Davies y se emplazó a una nueva buena oportunidad en el futuro próximo.
En el resto de la cartelera los favoritos se impusieron. El peso medio Nathan Heaney 17(6KO)-0 venció por decisión unánime (99-91, 97-93, 97-93) la revancha ante Jack Flatley 20(4KO)-4(1)-1; el peso supergallo Jason Cunningham 32(7KO)-7(2) regresó a la senda del triunfo venciendo de forma unánime (triple 99-91) a Miguel “Ajuga” González 33(9KO)-4(2); y la peso pluma Raven Chapman 6(2KO)-0 superó su test ante la exmonarca Linda Laura Lecca 15(3KO)-6(1)-2 también por amplísima decisión unánime (triple 100-89)
En el mismo día en que se produjo la victoria de Seniesa Estrada, la arriba citada Yokasta Valle 28(9KO)-2 retuvo sus cinturones mundiales IBF-WBO del peso mínimo no ante Anabel “Avispa” Ortiz sino contra la sustituta mexicana, carente de experiencia de calidad, Jessica Basulto 11(3KO)-1, a la que derrotó por decisión unánime (100-90, 100-90 y 98-92). Así, a los aficionados sólo les queda esperar que Estrada y Valle negocien y pacten un combate por el título indiscutido que es el mayor posible en la división actualmente y el máximo reto al que ambas pueden aspirar en ella.
Terminando el artículo, el sábado tuvieron lugar estos otros choques:
-El prospecto francés del peso superwélter Milan Prat 19(16KO)-0 continuó con su excelente ascenso convirtiéndose en el primero en derrotar antes del límite al competente Abel Mina 16(8KO)-3(1), que fue vencido en sólo dos rounds.
-La revancha entre Kris Terzievski 11(8KO)-1(1)-1 y Faiga Opelu 15(11KO)-3(2)-1 terminó en No Contest debido a que el primero sufrió una lesión de tobillo en el tercer round. Así, se espera que hacia mediados de año disputen un tercer combate.
-El peso wélter argentino Yoel Peralta 13(3KO)-1-1 estuvo más que a la altura de las circunstancias en su combate ante el imbatido Gerónimo Juárez 15(3KO)-1 y lo derrotó con amplísimas puntuaciones (100-88, 100-88, 100-88), mientras que la campeona sudamericana del peso gallo Florencia Ayelén Juárez 11(1KO)-1 añadió a su colección el cetro de Argentina venciendo a Juliana Basualdo 10(2KO)-3(1) por decisión técnica (70-63, 68-65, 66-67).
-El peso minimosca filipino Arvin Magramo 17(11KO)-1-1 tuvo trabajo ante su compatriota Joel Lino 12(5KO)-4-1, pero venció por decisión unánime (triple 116-112), retuvo un cinto menor WBO y entrará en el top 10 de dicho organismo en una próxima actualización, por lo que a corto-medio plazo afrontará un nuevo paso adelante.

Wednesday, March 22
On Wednesday there was a new ProBox evening. This time the main bout was a lightweight clash in which Canadian Mohamed Soumaoro was at a different level than the undefeated Mexican Angel Vázquez, whom he beat by eighth-round TKO. Article and video of the event following the link.
Supporting the Soumaoro-Vazquez fight, Puerto Rican welterweight Axl Meléndez shocked prospect Demontaze Duncan and handed him his first loss, while super lightweight Omar Rosario had no problem defeating Zach Hill in the first round. Read more following the link.
Thursday, March 23
Promising French super middleweight Christian “Solide” Mbilli had his toughest fight to date on Thursday, as Ecuadorian Carlos Góngora hurt him twice. As Argentinian Braian Suárez was not allowed to fight, former Commonwealth light heavyweight champion Lyndon “King” Arthur faced substitute Boris Crighton, with whom he had a tactical, monotonous and close fight in which, despite what the judges’ corrupt cards said, he only deserved the victory due to a knockdown in the final round. In this same event, super lightweight Conah Walker started well putting pressure on Kane Gardner, although the latter adjusted and, with a good boxing, defeated him by unanimous decision. Regarding the OPI evening, super middleweight Ivan Zucco 17(14KO)-0 had a fairly solid performance against the resistant British Germaine Brown 12(3KO)-2, against whom he imposed his blocking and power to achieve a good victory by unanimous decision (triple 99-91). Thus, although it still seems too soon for him to target the names above him in the WBC ranking, he certainly seems ready to battle in an EU championship against Gustave Tamba.
In the Italian super welterweight championship Francesco Russo 12(10KO)-3(3) showed once again that he has as much vulnerability as punch, as he was upset by Christian Mazzon 10(4KO)-4 with a fourth-round TKO. However, it is questionable that Mazzon, who has lost almost all of his notable bouts, will now be able to achieve a good winning streak.
These other fights also took place on Friday:
-Light flyweight John Paul Gabunilas 11(7KO)-1 boxed much better than in his previous bout and, facing an easier opponent than Jesse Espinas as Indonesian Wandi Priman Hulu 2(0KO)-1(1)-1, he prevailed by sixth-round TKO. Nevertheless, even though he fixed some mistakes and now will appear in the WBO ranking, he still has an overconfidence that can cost him dearly.
-Unbeaten super middleweight Bernardin Jakaj 14(8KO)-0 successfully passed his test against Marko Nikolić 30 (12KO) -3 (2) defeating him by unanimous decision (100-89, 100-89, 99-90), so now needs to focus on getting quality experience.
-Despite suffering a count, Carla Ayelén «Muñeca» Merino 11(2KO)-2 managed to defeat Débora Vanesa Gómez 8(1KO)-9-2 by unanimous decision (triple 9-92) in a championship for the Argentine and South American super flyweight titles. Merino, 23, is on an eight-win streak, and everything seems to indicate that now she will face the most important fights in her career to date.
Saturday, March 25
During the first stretch Caleb Plant’s skillful boxing put him ahead, but later David Benavídez took him to deep waters with his pressure and his power shots and ended up earning a clear victory by unanimous decision with which he began a new phase in his career. Read more following the link.
As for the promising super welterweight Jesús Ramos, he made quite a statement by knocking down, dominating and defeating Joey Spencer by seventh round TKO. Read more following the link.
On the Benavídez-Plant event there was a controversial result, since lightweight Chris Colbert was knocked down and hurt several times by José Valenzuela but the judges ended up giving the former a unanimous decision victory. Read more following the link.
The main card began with welterweight Cody Crowley winning a WBC eliminator against Abel Ramos showing again his high pace, his tenacity and his ability at short range. Read more following the link.
Regarding the Top Rank event, José Carlos Ramírez 28(18KO)-1 pressed hard, worked to the body well and, although his opponent made a remarkable effort halfway through to try to hold his ground, he managed to wear down and break Richard Commey 30(27KO)-5(2)-1, who ended up losing by KO in the eleventh round due to a left hook downstairs. As this bout was ultimately a WBC eliminator, Ramirez is theoretically very close to a fight against champion Regis Prograis. In any case, since Ramírez already avoided a match against Prograis once using the purse split as an excuse, many doubt that this clash will end up taking place.
In the co-feature bout, Seniesa Estrada 24(9KO)-0 demonstrated once again that she should be considered a top 10 pound-for-pound female boxer by dominating and defeating the unbeaten German titlist Tina Rupprecht 12(3KO)-1-1, whom she overcame attacking, counterpunching, jabbing, dodging, switching stances, etc. With the victory, Estrada unified the WBC-WBA minimumweight belts, and it is clear that she would be the favorite in a possible fight for the undisputed title against Yokasta Valle.
Unfortunately, the BOXXER card featured Lawrence Okolie in its main event, WBO world cruiserweight champion who once again put on an awful show and provoked boos from the crowd in his decision win over a much smaller boxer as David Light. Read more following the link.
The main support fights were a very short mismatch in which Olympic bronze medalist Frazer Clarke didn’t even have to work to defeat Bogdan Dinu and a contested English super featherweight championship in which Michael Gomez Jr. won by split decision against Levi Giles. As for the Frank Warren event, undefeated super bantamweight prospect Andrew Cain 10(9KO)-1 was yet another victim of the upset specialist Ionut Baluta 16(3KO)-4: Cain knocked down Baluta twice in the opening round before being knocked down himself and losing a unanimous decision (96-91, 92-95, 93-94). With this win Baluta bounced back from his loss to Liam Davies and will get another good opportunity in the near future.
In the rest of the main card all the favorites prevailed. Middleweight Nathan Heaney 17(6KO)-0 won his rematch against Jack Flatley 20(4KO)-4(1)-1 by unanimous decision (99-91, 97-93, 97-93); super bantamweight Jason Cunningham 32(7KO)-7(2) returned to winning ways by defeating Miguel «Ajuga» González 33(9KO)-4(2) by unanimous decision (triple 99-91); and featherweight Raven Chapman 6(2KO)-0 passed her test against former belt holder Linda Laura Lecca 15 (3KO)-6(1)-2 also by a wide unanimous decision (triple 100-89).
On the same day that Seniesa Estrada’s victory took place, the aforementioned Yokasta Valle 28(9KO)-2 retained her IBF-WBO minimumweight world belts not against Anabel «Avispa» Ortiz but against the untested Mexican substitute Jessica Basulto 11(3KO)-1, whom she defeated by unanimous decision (100-90, 100-90 and 98-92). Thus, the fans now can only wait for Estrada and Valle to negotiate a fight for the undisputed title, which is currently the biggest possible bout in the female minimumweight division.

-Argentinian welterweight Yoel Peralta 13(3KO)-1-1 was more than up to the task in his fight against the unbeaten Gerónimo Juárez 15(3KO)-1 and defeated him with wide scores (100-88, 100 -88, 100-88), while South American bantamweight champion Florencia Ayelén Juárez 11(1KO)-1 added the Argentine title to her collection defeating Juliana Basualdo 10(2KO)-3(1) by technical decision (70-63, 68-65, 66-67).
-Filipino light flyweight Arvin Magramo 17(11KO)-1-1 had a hard bout against his compatriot Joel Lino 12(5KO)-4-1, but won by unanimous decision (triple 116-112), retained a WBO minor belt and will enter in the top 10 of said organization in a future update, so in the short-medium term he will face a new step up.
