El peso pesado, bronce olímpico, Frazer Clarke batió a Dinu, Michael Gómez Jr. se convirtió en campeón de Inglaterra

Dado que el rumano Bogdan Dinu 20(16KO)-5(5) había perdido antes del límite sus cuatro retos más exigentes (Dubois, Pulev, Miller y Lerena), era inviable que llegase a la última campana ante el bronce olímpico británico Frazer Clarke 6(5KO)-0, que efectivamente le venció en el segundo asalto.
Clarke usó el jab para preparar derechazos a la cabeza y hooks al torso ante un Dinu que a penas hacía otra cosa que intentar bloquear. Así, tras sólo dos rounds de castigo de un solo lado, Dinu consideró que no era necesario alargar más un combate que no pensaba ni siquiera intentar ganar y abandonó.
Este combate fue un completo error por parte de Boxxer, que debería haber puesto a Clarke ante un oponente que fuese capaz de, al menos, de darle algo de trabajo.
Gómez capturó el cinturón inglés
Antes del semifondo del evento, Michael Gómez Jr. 18(5KO)-1 se proclamó campeón de Inglaterra del peso superpluma capturando el cinturón vacante ante Levi Giles 13(3KO)-0, a quien derrotó merecidamente por decisión dividida (97-93, 97-94, 95-96).
Giles comenzó boxeando muy bien, moviéndose ágilmente, esquivando con destreza, jabeando con inteligencia y sacando eventuales directos ante un oponente demasiado frontal y previsible. Con todo, Giles se confió de más y posteriormente empezó a salirse de su táctica y aceptar intercambios, en los cuales Gómez se encontró en su zona de confort e impuso sus golpes de poder en gancho y hook.
Eventualmente, Giles volvió a tener buenos momentos con su boxeo sin iniciativa en los que hizo fallar muchas manos a su contrincante. Pero por lo general en la segunda mitad perdió precisión, siguió cruzando más golpes de lo que le convenía y sus manos fueron menos contundentes que las de Gómez, que por insistencia y cadencia, especialmente en corta, ganó por poco asaltos decisivos.
Más allá de la posibilidad de una revancha, seguramente ahora Gómez pensará en, después de alguna defensa, empezar a apuntar a un choque contra el campeón británico que saldrá del choque Liam Dillon vs. Qais Ashfaq.
En otros encuentros de la velada, el prospecto del peso medio Callum Simpson 11(9KO)-0 acabó en sólo tres rounds con el portugués Celso Neves 9(2KO)-4(2)-2, con quien Felix Cash tuvo que trabajar durante ocho asaltos, mientras que el peso supermedio Aaron McKenna 16(8KO)-0 se midió Jordan Grant 6(0KO)-3(1), un remplazo del rival original Lukas Ndafoluma al que venció a los puntos (juez-árbitro 60-54).

Given that the Romanian Bogdan Dinu 20(16KO)-5(5) had lost by stoppage his four most demanding fights (Dubois, Pulev, Miller and Lerena), it was unfeasible for him to reach the last bell against the British Olympic bronze medalist Frazer Clarke 6(5KO)-0. Indeed Clarke defeated him in the second round.
Clarke used the jab to set up right hands to the head and hooks to the body against Dinu, who did little more than try to block. Thus, after only two rounds of one-sided punishment, Dinu considered that it was not necessary to extend a fight that he did not intend to even try to win and quit.
This match was a complete mistake on Boxxer’s part, since they should have put Clarke up against an opponent capable of at least give him some work.
Gómez captured the English belt
Before the co-feature bout of the event, Michael Gómez Jr. 18(5KO)1 became English super featherweight champion by capturing the vacant belt against Levi Giles 13(3KO)-0, whom he defeated by split decision (97-93, 97-94, 95-96).
Giles started out boxing very well, moving agilely, dodging skillfully, jabbing intelligently and throwing eventual straight shots against an opponent who was too frontal and predictable. Still, Giles became overconfident and subsequently began to forget his tactic and accept trading leather, situation in which Gómez found himself in his comfort zone and imposed his power punches in hook and uppercut.
Eventually, Giles returned to have some good moments with his boxing without imitative, with which he made his opponent miss many hands. But in general, in the second half he lost precision, he continued to exchange more than was convenient for him and his hands were less eye-catching than those of Gómez, who due to insistence and work rate, especially at short range, narrowly won decisive rounds.
Beyond the possibility of a rematch, surely now Gómez will think about, after some defense, starting to aim for a clash against the British champion that will come out of the Liam Dillon vs. Qais Ashfaq.
In other bouts of the evening, middleweight prospect Callum Simpson 11(9KO)-0 got rid in just three rounds of Portuguese Celso Neves 9(2KO)-4(2)-2, with whom Felix Cash had to work for eight rounds, while super middleweight Aaron McKenna 16(8KO)-0 faced Jordan Grant 6(0KO)-3(1), a replacement for original opponent Lukas Ndafoluma whom he beat on points (judge-referee 60-54).
