Jesús “Mono” Ramos fue muy superior a Joey Spencer en el duelo de promesas en ascenso

Resultaba incuestionable que el combate entre los jóvenes e imbatidos peso superwélter estadounidenses Jesús “Mono” Ramos 20(16KO)-0 y Joey Spencer 16(10KO)-1(1) iba a servir para que el ganador se afianzase como uno de los nombres a seguir más de cerca entre los prospectos de la división y para que enviase una seria advertencia a la cumbre. Quien hizo esta declaración de intenciones fue el favorito Ramos, que se anotó un knockdown y venció por KOT en el séptimo asalto un combate que controló.
Al igual que en el Valenzuela-Colbert, el combate se inició con un knockdown en el asalto inicial: Ramos aprovechó que su oponente cargó contra él acortando al máximo los espacios para contragolpearle con un gancho de izquierda que lo llevó al tapiz. Esto puso de manifiesto la previsible superioridad en potencia de “Mono”, que acumuló confianza y en adelante presionó a su oponente e impuso su destreza en el manejo de los golpes de poder curvos con variadas combinaciones.
Por momentos Spencer se vio abrumado, dejándose notar entonces su falta de experiencia de calidad, pero intentó apoyarse en su valentía para intentar replicar y resistir. No obstante, esto no fue suficiente y, más allá de alguna buena contra aislada, Spencer continuó siendo encerrado y alcanzado por nítidos golpes de poder ante los que no pudo reaccionar adecuadamente, siendo castigado de manera preocupante. Finalmente, tras seis asaltos de clara superioridad de Ramos, en el séptimo unas duras combinaciones con directos y curvos convencieron a la esquina de Spencer de que el boxeador era demasiado bravo para su propio bien y, acertadamente, detuvieron el choque.
Antes de esta pelea estaba claro que Ramos era un sólido boxeador con grandes cualidades pero, después de una victoria tan amplia en un encuentro ante un invicto prospecto con virtudes, simplemente parece que “Mono” está llamado a hacer cosas importantes. Ramos era 7º WBC y 9º WBO antes de este triunfo, de modo que, teniendo ya posibilidades serias de derrotar a la gran mayoría de los clasificados, parece que ha llegado la hora de que el boxeador dé otro paso adelante y empiece a tantear a los top 15 en la segunda mitad del año.

It was unquestionable that the fight between the young and unbeaten American super welterweights Jesús «Mono» Ramos 20(16KO)-0 and Joey Spencer 16(10KO)-1(1) was going to serve to make the winner one of the names to follow more closely among the division’s prospects and to send a serious warning to the top. Well, who made that statement was the favorite Ramos, who scored a knockdown and won by seventh-round TKO a fight that he controlled.
As in the Valenzuela-Colbert match, the fight began with a knockdown in the opening round: Ramos took advantage of the fact that his opponent charged at him, shortening the space as much as possible, to counterpunch with a left hook that brought him to the mat. This showed the predictable superiority in power of «Mono», who accumulated confidence and from then on put pressure on his opponent and imposed his skill throwing power shots with varied combinations.
At times Spencer was overwhelmed, and then it was visible his lack of quality experience, but he relayed on his courage to try to reply and resist. However, this was not enough and, beyond some sporadic good counters, Spencer continued to be pinned on the ropes, was hit by clear power shots to which he could not react adequately and was punished in a worrying way. Finally, after six rounds of clear superiority from Ramos, in the seventh some hard combinations with straight hands and hooks convinced Spencer’s corner that the boxer was too brave for his own good and they rightly stopped the clash.
Before this bout it was clear that Ramos was a solid fighter with great qualities, but after such a lopsided win in a match against an unbeaten prospect with virtues, it just seems that “Mono” is capable of doing big things. Ramos was ranked WBC number 7 and WBO number 9 before this triumph so, having already a serious chance of defeating the vast majority of ranked fighters, it seems that the time has come for the boxer to take another step up and begin testing the top 15 in the second half of the year.
