En otros años, después de la primera semana de mayo la actividad boxística fue decreciendo gradualmente hasta quedar considerablemente reducida hacia junio y julio. De todos modos, a estas alturas de la temporada 2022, mayo seguirá teniendo jornadas boxísticas con un notable número de combates destacables y en junio también se producirán días repletos de pugilismo.
Jueves 19 de mayo
En esta jornada tendrá lugar una interesante prueba para una invicta prospecta, la peso minimosca mexicana Tania “La Chula” Enríquez 17(8KO)-0, hermana menor de la exmonarca mundial Kenia Enríquez que se enfrentará a una experimentadísima compatriota como la excampeona Nancy “Chatita” Franco 19(5KO)-16(3)-2. Este combate, que se producirá en el Grand Hotel de Tijuana, México, emitido por Facebook, parece de lejos el mayor reto que ha afrontado Tania Enríquez como profesional, dado que Franco es una dura y combativa boxeadora que se ha medido a rivales como Yéssica Bopp, Jéssica Nery Plata o Ava Knight. No obstante, hace muchos años que Franco no logra una victoria de calibre, por lo que la zurda Enríquez será favorita a pesar de tener una clara desventaja en experiencia.
Viernes 20 de mayo
El viernes contará con una velada de Matchroom Boxing y DAZN en la que el 4º WBA del peso superwélter Kerman Lejarraga se enfrentará al excampeón de la Commonwealth, y exaspirante al título británico, James Metcalf. En el respaldo, entre otros combates, se producirá un campeonato de Europa del peso mosca entre Ángel Moreno y Jairo Noriega.

Otra de las veladas importantes del día será la organizada por Frank Warren desde el York Hall de Londres, Reino Unido, emitida por BT Sport. En ella el joven peso supergallo Brad “The Blade” Foster 14(5KO)-1-2 tratará de recuperarse de su controvertida derrota ante Jason Cunningham enfrentándose al complicado rumano Ionut “Il Capo” Baluta 14(3KO)-3, que cuenta con triunfos ante rivales como el excampeón TJ Doheny o el olímpico David Oliver Joyce y cuya única derrota reciente fue ajustada y ante el bronce olímpico Michael Conlan.
En el respaldo destaca otra pelea del peso supergallo, en la que el local Andrew Cain 9(8KO)-0 se medirá al mexicano Luis “Gallito” Moreno 10(6KO)-2(1).
Aunque los primeros eventos de ProBox habían sido emitidos por YouTube gratuitamente, en principio las carteleras futuras serán ofrecidas a través de un servicio de suscripción (si bien este bastante barato). Sea como sea, en el Whitesands Events Center de Plant City, Estados Unidos, la citada compañía ofrecerá un cartel en el que el peso semipesado, olímpico chino, Fanlong “Cold Blood” Meng 17(10KO)-0 (que es aspirante obligatorio de Beterbiev a pesar de que su oportunidad se aplazase en circunstancias desafortunadas) tratará de mantenerse en la cima del ranking IBF peleando contra el veterano excampeón Jean Pascal 35(20KO)-6(2)-1. Este último no combate desde hace dos años y medio, siendo parte del tiempo perdido debido a un positivo en control antidopaje.
Acompañando a este combate se desarrollará la primera ronda de un torneo del peso superligero en el que se pretende dar una nueva oportunidad a boxeadores con tropiezos importantes, en mala racha, que no han tenido buen apoyo promocional o que no han logrado avanzar al ritmo que se esperaba. Los enfrentamientos serán:
- -Kendo Castañenda 17(8KO)-5(1) vs. Sonny Fredrickson 21(14KO)-5(2),
-Michael Dutchover 15(10KO)-2(2) vs. Clarence Booth 21(13KO)-4(2).

Terminando con el viernes:
-En el Korakuen Hall de Toyko, Japón, el excampeón mundial Yukinori Oguni 21(8KO)-2(2)-1 pondrá fin a tres años de inactividad peleando contra el pegador y campeón OPBF Keita Kurihara 16(14KO)-6(3), que es 10º WBC y 12º WBO en el peso gallo.
-En el Hala Zespolu Szkol Rolniczych de Sroda Wielkopolska, Polonia, emitido por TVP Sport, el peso wélter Tomasz Nowicki 10(3KO)-0 afrontará un test ante el británico Louis Greene 13(7KO)-3(1), que en su anterior pelea en Polonia noqueó a un invicto. En el mismo evento el peso superligero Damian Wrzesinski 24(7KO)-2-2 se medirá al competente Ismail Galiatano 10(2KO)-3(1)-3, que dio mucho trabajo en marzo al invicto Kamil Laszczyk.
-En el Auckland War Memorial Museum de Auckland, Nueva Zelanda, el invicto peso crucero Jerome “Panther” Pampellone 11(6KO)-0 sin poner a prueba dará un paso adelante ante el fogueado Nikolas Charalampous 20(9KO)-5(1).
-En el 2300 Arena de Philadelphia, Estados Unidos, se producirá un bien emparejado combate del peso superligero entre Kenny Robles 9(3KO)-1 y James Bernardin 6(4KO)-0-1.
Sábado 21 de mayo
No sólo habrá una velada de Matchroom Boxing el viernes, sino que el sábado también se desarrollará otra, en esta caso en Reino Unido. El combate estelar será una eliminatoria WBA del peso semipesado entre Joshua Buatsi y Craig Richards, mientras que en el respaldo se producirán el mundial superligero Chantelle Cameron vs. Victoria Bustos y los combates Alen Babić vs. Adam Balski, Robbie Davies Jr. vs. Javier Molina y Ellie Scotney vs. María Cecilia Román.

Otra de las carteleras destacadas será la que PBC y Showtime ofrecerán desde Estados Unidos, que estará encabezada por una pelea por el título interino WBC del peso supermedio entre los excampeones mundiales David Benavídez y David Lemieux. En el semifondo combatirá el prometedor cubano Yoelvis Gómez.

Unas horas antes que el Benavídez-Lemieux se iniciará la retransmisión de una velada de Top Rank que contará con otro título interino en juego, en este caso WBO y del peso medio. Por él pelearán el muy eficaz kazajo Zhanibek Alimkhanuly y el valiente Danny Dignum. En el choque coestelar se enfrentarán el excampeón Jamel Herring y el invicto Jamaine Ortiz.

En principio el aplazado evento de la semana pasada (el de la exhibición de Mayweather) en los Emiratos Árabes Unidos en el que se iba a integrar la pelea del peso superpluma entre Delfine Persoon y Elhem Mekhaled ha sido reubicado finalmente en este sábado. Otra cartelera de los EAU que también, teóricamente, ha terminado situada en el sábado es la del Coca-Cola Arena de Dubái, en la cual los excampeones mundiales estadounidenses Tevin Farmer 30(6KO)-5(2)-1 y Mickey Bey 23(11KO)-3(1)-1 se enfrentarán buscando recobrar impulso tras sus derrotas, respectivamente, ante Joseph Díaz y George Kambosos.
El sábado también se puede mencionar una velada de Universum, emitida por YouTube, desde el Inselparkhalle de Hamburgo, Alemania. En ella, el prospecto kazajo del peso pesado Zhan Kossobutskiy 17(16KO)-0, 8º WBA, intentará escalar algún peldaño en el ranking peleando por un título menor ante el exretador mundial francés Johann Duhaupas 39(26KO)-6(3), que disputará con este su primer combate de calibre desde su rápida derrota ante Tony Yoka.
En el respaldo participará el bielorruso de gran carrera amateur Dzmitry Asanau 2(2KO)-0, peso ligero que en su tercer combate profesional se medirá al mexicano Marcos Villasana Jr. 27(16KO)-6(1), en racha de 12 victorias.
Finalmente, en el sábado sobresale también un campeonato de la Unión Europea del peso superpluma desde el Pabellón Municipal de Cullera, España, en el que el titular Juan Félix “El Mago” Gómez 11(2KO)-0 afrontará su primera defensa ante el retador obligatorio francés Anthony “El Guerrero” Riviere 10(2KO)-3(1)-1. El visitante Riviere es un boxeador competente, campeón nacional y que seguro que pondrá mucho esfuerzo en este primer campeonato de ámbito continental. Sin embargo, Gómez está teniendo un gran rendimiento, está más rodado, llega de una importante victoria y, en definitiva, parece estar a un nivel superior, por lo que en principio debería poder retener su corona.

-En el Stadion Bieberer Berg de Offenbach, Alemania, la peso mínimo local Sarah Bormann 13(7KO)-0 intentará anotarse una de las mayores victorias de su carrera hasta la fecha y acercarse al mundial enfrentándose a la experimentadísima mexicana Ana Arrazola 28(14KO)-14(1)-3.
-En el Caribe Royale de Orlando, Estados Unidos, el peso medio irlandés Connor Coyle 15(7KO)-0 disputará un exigente test ante el estadounidense Todd Manuel 13(7KO)-5(2), que llega de derrotar a Hugo Centeno Jr.
-En el Polideportivo Alexis Argüello de Managua, Nicaragua, el excampeón mundial Félix Alvarado 37(32KO)-2 iniciará su andadura en el peso mosca enfrentándose al duro mexicano Luis Cerrito Hernández 10(6KO)-5(1)-1. En este mismo evento participará el imbatido peso supermosca Winston “El Fantasma” Guerrero 16(11KO)-0, que se medirá al mexicano Misael Gracia 15(10KO)-(1)-2.
-En el Club Unión Eléctrica de Córdoba, Argentina, TyC Sports televisará una pugna del peso medio entre Jonathan Wilson Sánchez 20(9KO)-5(1)-1 y un Martín Ezequiel Bulacio 10(7KO)-5(2) que viene de ofrecer una exigente pugna al prospecto Amilcar Vidal.
-En el Convention Center de Long Beach, Estados Unidos, el peso wélter bielorruso Vlad Panin 12(5KO)-1 afrontará un difícil choque ante el estadounidense Courtney Pennington 15(7KO)-4-3, que logró ganar asaltos y ofrecer trabajo al muy prometedor superwélter Charles Conwell.

In past years, after the first week of May, boxing activity gradually decreased until it was considerably reduced towards June and July. Thursday, May 19
On this day will take place an interesting test for an undefeated prospect, the Mexican light flyweight Tania «La Chula» Enríquez 17(8KO)-0, younger sister of the former world champion Kenia Enríquez who will face a very experienced compatriot like the former titlist Nancy “Chatita” Franco 19(5KO)-16(3)-2. Also on Saturday, there will be a Universum evening, broadcast on YouTube, from the Inselparkhalle in Hamburg, Germany. In it, Kazakh heavyweight prospect Zhan Kossobutskiy 17(16KO)-0, 8th WBA, will try to climb some positions in the ranking fighting for a minor title against former world challenger Johann Duhaupas 39(26KO)-6(3), who will have his important match since his quick defeat against Tony Yoka.
The Belarusian lightweight with great amateur career Dzmitry Asanau 2(2KO)-0 will participate in the support. In his third professional fight he will face the Mexican Marcos Villasana Jr. 27(16KO)-6(1), who is on a streak of 12 wins.
Finally, on Saturday also stands out a European Union super featherweight championship from the Pabellón Municipal of Cullera, Spain, in which the titleholder Juan Félix “El Mago” Gómez 11(2KO)-0 will make his first defense against the mandatory challenger Anthony “El Guerrero” Riviere 10(2KO)-3(1)-1. The visitor Riviere is a competent boxer, and national champion, that will surely put a lot of effort into this first continental championship. However, Gómez is having great performances, is coming from an important victory and, in short, he seems to be at a higher level, so he should be able to retain his crown.
