Los mejores combates de este fin de semana (18-19/3/2022)

Contrastando con un sábado repleto de actividad relevante, contaremos con un viernes con prácticamente un único foco de interés. Por ello, habrá que contentarse con lo que nos ofrecerá al inicio este fin de semana y guardar fuerzas para lo que nos deparará su jornada más intensa.
Viernes 18 de marzo
El primero de los dos eventos que ofrecerá Probellum en este fin de semana tendrá lugar el viernes, y en él se producirá una muy interesante eliminatoria WBC del peso superpluma entre el estadounidense O’Shaquie Foster y el tayiko Muhammadkhuja Yaqubov. Además, en la cartelera participarán dos oros olímpicos (Estelle Mossely y Bakhodir Jalolov), el exretador mundial superpluma Jono Carroll y el prospecto supergallo Shabaz Masoud.

Aunque habría sido idóneo que parte de la gran cantidad de veladas del sábado se hubiesen pasado a un viernes casi totalmente despoblado, el hecho es que al margen del evento arriba citado no habrá casi nada más que destacar en esta jornada. Y es que, dejando de lado la posibilidad de que alguna cartelera haya podido pasar desapercibida, el único evento conocido destacable es el que Fite ofrecerá por PPV desde el Paramount Theatre de Huntington, Estados Unidos.
En él no habrán grandes choques, pero se puede hacer mención de dos de los encuentros. En uno el prospecto ucraniano de extensa carrera amateur Oleh Dovhun 13(5KO)-0, 6º WBA supergallo, disputará un rodaje a diez asaltos ante un boxeador ante el que será amplísimo favorito, el belga-armenio Geram Eloyan 7(6KO)-2. En el otro el invicto peso superwélter estadounidense Tyrone James 11(8KO)-0 reanudará su carrera tras casi dos años y medio inactivo peleando contra su compatriota Jimmy Williams 18(6KO)-6(2)-2, que el año pasado derrotó al excampeón mundial Yuri Foreman en su retorno y que posteriormente perdió por decisión dividida contra el exclasificado Greg Vendetti.
Sábado 19 de marzo
La segunda de las veladas de Probellum se producirá el sábado y contará con un campeonato mundial IBF del peso mosca entre el monarca Sunny Edwards y el retador Muhammad Waseem. En este mismo cartel combatirá el excampeón mundial superligero Regis Prograis en una eliminatoria contra Tyrone McKenna, además del olímpico Hovhannes Bachkov y del exmonarca mundial TJ Doheny.

El Edwards-Waseem no será el único mundial de la jornada, ya que los japoneses Masamichi Yabuki y Kenshiro Teraji se enfrentarán en una revancha del campeonato WBC del peso minimosca que Yabuki venció por KOT el pasado septiembre.

Otra de las veladas destacadas del día será la que Top Rank organizará en Nueva York encabezada por el choque del peso supermedio Edgar Berlanga y Steve Rolls. En el respaldo destacan los choques John Bauzá vs. Tony Luis y Xander Zayas vs. Quincy LaVallais.

Por otro lado, el peligroso campeón de Europa del peso wélter David Avanesyan expondrá su corona en la que a priori es una desnivelada pugna ante Oskari Metz. En el respaldo participarán boxeadores como Hamzah Sheeraz, Louie Lynn y Sam Noakes.

En este sábado lleno de actividad no podía faltar tampoco una velada de DAZN, que será organizada esta vez por Golden Boy Promotions. En el choque estelar iba a participar el insigne prospecto del peso wélter Vergil Ortiz Jr., pero finalmente una enfermedad del púgil hará que su rival Michael McKinson se enfrente al sustituto Alex Martin. El nuevo choque estelar de la noche será el combate del peso wélter Alexis Rocha vs. Blair Cobbs.

Con las carteleras arriba mencionadas habría más que de sobra para que no pudiésemos despegarnos de la actividad boxística en este día, pero además se producirán estos otros enfrentamientos:
-En el Club Atlético, Social y Deportivo Camioneros de Luis Guillón, Argentina, TyC Sports emitirá un campeonato mundial WBO del peso mosca en el que la invicta monarca Débora Anahí López 20(1KO)-0-1 intentará realizar su segunda defensa exitosa ante la exretadora mundial Tamara Elisabet Demarco 9(0KO)-4(1), que llega de una derrota por KOT ante “La Princesita” Bermúdez pero que venció como visitante en Francia en una ocasión y que perdió de forma muy ajustada contra Ayelén Granadino.
-En Massy, Francia, el veterano campeón de Europa del peso medio Matteo Signani 31(11KO)-5(1)-3 buscará sumar una defensa a su reinado, antes de una inevitable derrota en el futuro próximo, enfrentándose a un Anderson Prestot 24(13KO)-2(1) con un nivel muy lejano al del top 15.
-En Berlín, Alemania, el 7º IBF del peso superwélter Abass Baraou 11(7KO)-1 disputará su combate más relevante desde su controvertida derrota ante Jack Culcay midiéndose al zurdo argentino Brian Damián Chaves 14(5KO)-1, cuyo único tropiezo llegó ante Jeremías Ponce.
-En el Gimnasio José Neri Santos de Ciudad Juárez, México, Tv Azteca emitirá un duelo entre los invictos peso superligero Carlos “El Tiburón”Sánchez 22(18KO)-0 y Pedro Campa 33(23KO)-1(1)-1 en el que el primero parte como favorito. También en la velada el imbatido peso supergallo Jesús Riegos 15(12KO)-0 afrontará su mayor test hasta la fecha ante Israel Rodríguez 23(15KO)-5, que ha sufrido sus derrotas ante rivales como Mauricio Lara o Eduardo Báez.
-En el Palasport Salvador Allende de Cinisello Balsamo, Italia, se emitirá por YouTube un evento en el que tendrá lugar la interesante revancha entre el campeón de Italia del peso wélter Nicholas Esposito 15(5KO)-0 y el veterano extitular Tobia Loriga 33(6KO)-9(3)-3.
-En The Star de Gold Coast, Australia, el peso ligero Jacob Ng 15(11KO)-0 tratará de mejorar su posición de 9º IBF y 14º WBO peleando por títulos menores ante el excampeón, al borde del retiro, Billy Dib 47(27KO)-6(3).

Contrasting with a Saturday full of relevant activity, Friday will have practically a single interesting event. For this reason, we will have to settle with what the beginning of this weekend will offer and save energies for the very intense Saturday.
Friday, March 18
The first of the two Probellum events in this weekend will take place on Friday. It will have a very interesting WBC super featherweight eliminator between the American O’Shaquie Foster and the Tajik Muhammadkhuja Yaqubov. In the card will fight also two Olympic gold medalists (Estelle Mosely and Bakhodir Jalolov), the former super featherweight world title challenger Jono Carroll and the super bantamweight prospect Shabaz Masoud. Although it would have been very convenient if part of the large number of Saturday’s cards had been moved to an almost completely deserted Friday, the fact is that apart from the event mentioned above there will be almost nothing else to highlight on this day. Putting aside the possibility that some event may have gone unnoticed, the only known mentionable evening is the one that will be aired through a Fite PPV from the Paramount Theater in Huntington, United States.
In this event stand out two clashes. In one, the Ukrainian prospect with an extensive amateur career Oleh Dovhun 13(5KO)-0, 6th WBA at super bantamweight, will have a ten-round tune-up against an obvious underdog, the Belgian-Armenian Geram Eloyan 7(6KO)-2. In the other bout, the undefeated American super welterweight Tyrone James 11(8KO)-0 will resume his career after almost two and a half years of inactive fighting against his compatriot Jimmy Williams 18(6KO)-6(2)-2, who last year defeated former world champion Yuri Foreman in his return and later lost by split decision against Greg Vendetti.
Saturday, March 19
The second of Probellum’s evenings will take place on Saturday and will feature an IBF flyweight world championship between the beltholder Sunny Edwards and the challenger Muhammad Waseem. In this same bill, former super lightweight world champion Regis Prograis will fight in an eliminator against Tyrone McKenna, and the Olympian Hovhannes Bachkov and the former world champion TJ Doheny will have new bouts. The Edwards-Waseem will not be the only world championship of the day, since the Japanese Masamichi Yabuki and Kenshiro Teraji will meet in a rematch of the WBC light flyweight championship that Yabuki won by TKO last September. Read more following the link.
Another of the notable bills of the day will be the one that Top Rank will organize in New York headlined by the super middleweight clash Edgar Berlanga vs. Steve Rolls. On this Saturday full of activity a DAZN event could not be missing, which will be organized this time by Golden Boy Promotions. The distinguished welterweight prospect Vergil Ortiz Jr. was going to participate in the main bout before he suffered an illness, so his rival Michael McKinson finally will face the substitute Alex Martin. -In Berlin, Germany, the 7th IBF super welterweight Abass Baraou 11(7KO)-1 will have his most relevant fight since his controversial defeat to Jack Culcay against Argentine southpaw Brian Damián Chaves 14(5KO)-1, whose only loss came against Jeremias Ponce.
-At the Gimnasio José Neri Santos in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, Tv Azteca will broadcast a duel between the undefeated super lightweight Carlos “El Tiburón” Sánchez 22(18KO)-0 and Pedro Campa 33(23KO)-1(1)-1 in which the former is the favorite. Also in the event, unbeaten super bantamweight Jesús Riegos 15(12KO)-0 will face his biggest test to date against Israel Rodríguez 23(15KO)-5, who has suffered his defeats against rivals such as Mauricio Lara or Eduardo Báez.
