Otro cambio de rival más para Michael McKinson, Jesús Antonio Pérez 12 kg por encima del peso wélter

Aunque tras una breve búsqueda Golden Boy Promotions había encontrado un boxeador aprobado por la Comisión Atlética del Estado de California para que se enfrentase a Michael Mckinson como sustituto de Vergil Ortiz Jr., finalmente ese duelo no seguirá adelante tampoco. A falta de menos de un día para el pesaje, el mexicano Jesús Antonio Pérez (inactivo desde 2019) estaba 12 kg por encima del peso wélter, de modo que se consideró que ni sería posible que diese el peso ni recomendable que lo intentase.
Así, Golden Boy Promotions ha buscado un nuevo remplazo, siendo este el estadounidense Alex Martin. Dicho púgil es de lejos la mejor opción que se ha presentado como sustituto de Ortiz, y parece sorprendente que este boxeador se tuviese como última opción por debajo de púgiles que llevaban años inactivos. De hecho, da la sensación de que el movimiento estaba planeado por Golden Boy y que los anteriores reemplazos propuestos eran cortinas de humo.
Martin peleó por última vez el pasado agosto y está en racha de cuatro victorias, una de ellas ante Ángel Fierro, mientras que su última derrota llegó en 2017, por decisión y ante un boxeador con aspiraciones como Bryant Perrella. Por ello, queda claro que dadas las circunstancias es un oponente más que bueno para McKinson. Con todo, no se debe dar por hecho el enfrentamiento hasta que no se sepa si Martin podrá dar finalmente el peso wélter, o al menos una cifra remotamente cercana.
A través de su cuenta de Facebook, McKinson señaló:
“Actualización, mi oponente vino de México 2 st (12,7 kg) por encima del peso. Cambio de oponente OTRA VEZ!!! Lo más probable es que sea un peleador de Golden Boy que sea zurdo. Menuda semana de altibajos, pero hemos venido a pelear, contra quien sea, a pesar de todo. Es el momento para adaptarse a las situaciones y vencer”.

Although after a brief search Golden Boy Promotions had found a boxer approved by the California State Athletic Commission to face Michael Mckinson as a substitute for Vergil Ortiz Jr., ultimately that duel will not go ahead either. With less than a day to go before the weigh-in, the Mexican Jesús Antonio Pérez (inactive since 2019) was 12 kg (2 st or 28 lb) above welterweight, so it was considered that it would not be possible for him to make the weight nor recommended that he try it.
Thus, Golden Boy Promotions has sought a new replacement, the American Alex Martin. This fighter is by far the best option that has been presented as a substitute for Ortiz, and it seems surprising that this boxer was the last option below fighters who had been inactive for years. In fact, it seems that the move was planned by Golden Boy and that previous proposed replacements were smoke screens.
Martin fought for the last time in August, is on a four-fight win streak, one of them against Ángel Fierro, and his last loss came in 2017, by decision and against a boxer with aspirations, Bryant Perrella. Therefore, it is clear that in present circumstances he is a more than good opponent for McKinson. Still, the matchup shouldn’t be taken for granted until it’s known whether Martin can finally make welterweight, or be remotely close to it.
