Comenzamos en el Salón Ribera de Monterrey, México, donde Round Zero ofrecerá por Facebook una de sus habituales veladas de jueves. En esta ocasión el combate estelar contará con la participación del peso ligero José Rodolfo “El Increíble” Macías 16(7KO)-2-2 que, tras anotarse una victoria en Canadá, ser robado atrozmente en Kazajistán ante un invicto y perder por decisión contra el exranqueado mundial Yves Ulysse Jr., buscará su segundo triunfo consecutivo midiéndose a su compatriota Francisco Rodríguez 13(9KO)-4(3)-1, ante el que será muy claro favorito para imponerse.
Viernes 19 de mayo
El mayor choque de la jornada de viernes será la eliminatoria WBC del peso mínimo que se producirá en Cancún, México, televisada por ESPN Knockout, entre el mexicano Luis “Flechita” Castillo 20(13KO)-0-1 y el sudafricano Ayanda Ndulani 13(4KO)-2(1)-1, quienes pelearán por convertirse en el siguiente retador obligatorio de Panya Pradabsri después del titular interino Yudai Shigeoka. Al margen de este lío organizado por el WBC, el Castillo-Ndulani es un buen e interesante choque que seguramente ofrecerá rounds de calidad. Evidentemente, siendo zurdo, estando invicto y peleando en casa, Castillo parece tener puntos a su favor importantes, pero un Ndulani prácticamente igual de joven que él y que se ha anotado varias buenas victorias en el difícil circuito de su país debería poder ser, cuanto menos, muy competitivo en el combate.
El viernes destaca también un combate que se producirá en el Hala Widowiskowo – Sportowa Złotowianka de Zlotow, Polonia, encabezando una velada de Tymex Boxing Promotion televisada por TVP Sport. En el duelo el veterano y resistente Lukasz Maciec 28(5KO)-6-1 servirá como prueba de fuego para el invicto prospecto polaco-bielorruso Yauheni Makarchuk 7(3KO)-0. Aparentemente Makarchuk debería tener a su favor un margen en motivación, especialmente después de vencer ampliamente a Tomasz Nowicki en su pugna más reciente y enfrentándose a un rival que ha perdido todos sus combates de mayor calibre. Aun así, Maciec tiene una fortaleza y una descomunal ventaja en experiencia de calidad que parecen garantizar que Makarchuk se verá en una pelea exigente.
Por lo demás, el viernes se producirán estos otros combates:
-En el Centro de Eventos Culturales y Deportivos Juan Domingo Perón de González Catán, Argentina, televisado por TyC Sports, el invicto peso wélter Joel Marcos Mafauad 9(4KO)-0 buscará capturar el vacante cinturón de Argentina enfrentándose a Cristian Javier Ayala 10(4KO)-2(1)-1, que perdió en tres rounds contra un Cristian Reggiardo al que Mafauad noqueó en siete rounds.
-En el Casino Gran Madrid de Torrelodones, España, el campeón nacional del peso ligero Brian Peláez 13(3KO)-6(1) afrontará su primera defensa, y un test a su solidez como titular, enfrentándose al joven e invicto Antonio Collado 10(1KO)-0, que disputa el mayor duelo de su carrera hasta la fecha.
-En el Estadio Guadalquivir de Coria del Río, España, el local Juan Jesús Antúnez 11(3KO)-1 tratará de lograr al segundo intento la corona de campeón de España del peso pluma peleando por el cinto vacante ante el veterano Jon Martínez 13(2KO)-7(3)-5.
-En The Renaissance Conference Center de Richmond, Estados Unidos, emitido por Fite, el imbatido peso superwélter estadounidense-albano Ermal Hadribeaj 14(6KO)-0-1 buscará subir puestos en el largo ranking WBC (en el que es 32º) peleando por un título menor contra el español Leonardo di Stefano Ruiz 11(10KO)-1(1).
Sábado 20 de mayo
El mayor enfrentamiento de la semana será el choque por el título de campeón indiscutido del peso ligero que disputarán el joven monarca Devin Haney y el veterano retador, futuro miembro del Salón de la Fama, Vasyl Lomachenko. Previa del combate siguiendo el link.
En el respaldo principal de este cartel, el exmonarca en dos divisiones Óscar Valdez retornará al ring en una revancha contra Adam López y el destacado prospecto Raymond Muratalla afrontará una prueba ante el potente Jeremia Nakathila, mientras que en el respaldo previo Junto Nakatani y Andrew Moloney combatirán por el vacante cinturón WBO del peso supermosca. El Haney-Lomachenko no será el único duelo de la semana con un cinturón indiscutido en juego, puesto que Katie Taylor tratará de capturar los cuatro cinturones mundiales del peso superligero femenino enfrentándose a la titular indiscutida Chantelle Cameron. Previa del combate siguiendo el link.
Antes de que Taylor y Cameron salten al ring, Terri Harper pondrá en juego su cinturón WBA del peso superwélter contra la exnúmero 1 libra por libra femenina Cecilia Braekhus, Dennis Hogan peleará por primera vez en su país en un bien emparejado choque ante James Metcalf y los prospectos Gary Cully y Caoimhin Agyarko disputarán nuevos combates. Por otro lado, destaca también el campeonato de Europa del peso gallo que se producirá en el Arena de Monza, Italia, entre el titular italiano Alesso “Mosquito” Lorusso 21(9KO)-4-2 y el aspirante británico Thomas Essomba 11(4KO)-8(1)-1.
Más allá de lo que sugiera su aspecto (el hecho de que esté completamente cubierto de tatuajes, incluida la cara, llama la atención de muchos), Lorusso está evolucionando cada vez más y, aunque padece los típicos excesos de confianza habituales en los púgiles hábiles, es capaz de ofrecer un boxeo muy móvil, con grandes esquivas y mucha eficacia, en el que últimamente también ha añadido más pegada y capacidad de definición. Así, aunque Essomba es un boxeador durísimo, muy tenaz y que ha dado sobradas muestras de sus capacidades en sus actuaciones ante Sunny Edwards, Marc Leach, Thomas Ward o Jay Harris, entre otros, parece que la mejor versión de Lorusso debería poder imponer su juego de piernas y su elusividad ante un peleador que, eso sí, le presionará con valentía de principio a fin.
El sábado también tendrán lugar estos otros enfrentamientos:
-En el Sumida City Gymnasium de Tokio, Japón, el excampeón mundial del peso minimosca Hiroto Kyoguchi 16(11KO)-1(1) disputará su primera pelea desde su dura derrota ante Kenshiro Teraji peleando en el peso mosca contra el filipino Roland Jay “The Bull” Biendima 17(10KO)-13(2)-1.
-En el Opera i Filharmonia Podlaska de Bialystok, Polonia, televisado por TVP Sport, el exretador mundial Kamil Szeremeta 23(7KO)-2(2)-1 disputará una revancha ante el francés Nizar Trimech 10(4KO)-4(2)-2, ante el que empató en noviembre de 2021.
-En el York Hall de Londres, Reino Unido, el invicto peso superligero Aaron Prospere 10(3KO)-0 afrontará su mayor combate hasta la fecha ante el competente Tom Ansell 10(2KO)-3, que nunca ha padecido una derrota por amplia diferencia.
-En el 2300 Arena de Philadelphia, Estados Unidos, el peso superwélter James Martin 10(0KO)-3-1 intentará sumar su tercer triunfo consecutivo enfrentándose al veterano Courtney Pennington 16(7KO)-6(2)-3.
-En el DoubleTree Hilton Hotel de Glasgow, Reino Unido, el invicto Regan Glackin 10(3KO)-0 peleará contra un boxeador más experimentado que él como Ahmed Mweva 14(2KO)-3-1 por el vacante cinturón Scottish Area del peso ligero.
Domingo 21 de mayo
Finalmente, en el domingo se producirán un par de peleas mencionables. Una de ellas se desarrollará en el Paloma Mizuho Arena de Nagoya, Japón, donde el campeón mundial en tres divisiones Kosei Tanaka 18(10KO)-1(1) disputará un rodaje, a la espera de una gran pelea en el peso supermosca (es top 5 en los cuatro organismos), pugnando contra el competente colombiano Pablo Carrillo 28(17KO)-8(1)-2, que en su carrera se ha medido a boxeadores como Kazuto Ioka, Donnie Nietes, “Chihuas” Rodríguez, etc.
En el otro, que se desarrollará en el Niagara Falls Convention Centre de Niagara Falls, Canadá, emitido por DAZN, el prospecto del peso ligero Lucas Bahdi 13(11KO)-0 disputará uno de los dos mayores combates de su carrera hasta la fecha enfrentándose al joven mexicano Jesús “Toro” Amparán 20(16KO)-3.

Thursday, May 18
At the Ribera Hall in Monterrey, Mexico, will take place one of the usual Thursday evenings organized by Round Zero and broadcast through Facebook. On this occasion, the main event will feature lightweight José Rodolfo “El Increíble” Macías 16(7KO)-2-2 who, after scoring an upset in Canada, being horribly robbed in Kazakhstan against an undefeated and losing by decision against former world ranked boxer Yves Ulysse Jr., will seek to obtain his second consecutive victory facing his compatriot Francisco Rodríguez 13(9KO)-4(3)-1, against whom he will be clear favorite to prevail.
Friday, May 19
The biggest clash on Friday will be the WBC minimumweight eliminator that will take place in Cancun, Mexico, televised by ESPN Knockout, between Mexican Luis «Flechita» Castillo 20(13KO)-0-1 and South African Ayanda Ndulani 13(4KO)-2(1)-1, who will fight to become Panya Pradabsri’s next mandatory challenger after interim titleholder Yudai Shigeoka. Letting aside this mess created by the WBC, the Castillo-Ndulani is a good and interesting clash that will surely have good rounds. Obviously, being and undefeated southpaw fighting at home, Castillo seems to have important elements in his favor, but Ndulani is as young as him and has scored several good victories in his country (which has a hard minimumweight division), so he should be able to be, at least, very competitive.
Friday will also have a mentionable fight at the Hala Widowiskowo – Sportowa Złotowianka in Zlotow, Poland, headlining an evening of Tymex Boxing Promotion televised by TVP Sport. In this bout, the veteran and resistant Lukasz Maciec 28(5KO)-6-1 will serve as a decisive test for the undefeated Polish-Belarusian prospect Yauheni Makarchuk 7(3KO)-0. Apparently Makarchuk should have an advantage in motivation, especially after clearly beating Tomasz Nowicki in his most recent bout and facing an opponent who has lost all of his biggest fights. Still, Maciec has strength and a massive advantage in quality experience, which seem to guarantee that Makarchuk will have a tough fight.

The biggest showdown of the week will be the clash for the undisputed lightweight title between young champion Devin Haney and veteran challenger, future Hall of Famer, Vasyl Lomachenko. Read more following the link.

Despite what his appearance suggests (the fact that he is completely covered in tattoos, including his face, draws the attention of many), Lorusso is evolving more and more and, although he has the typical overconfidence common in skilled fighters, is capable of displaying a very mobile boxing, with great dodges and efficiency, in which lately he has also added more punch and finishing ability. Thus, although Essomba is a very tough and tenacious boxer who has shown many times his qualities (for example, against Sunny Edwards, Marc Leach, Thomas Ward or Jay Harris, among others) it seems that the best version of Lorusso should be able to impose his footwork and elusiveness against a fighter who, in any case, will valiantly pressure him from start to finish.
