En la división del peso superwélter femenina la británica Natasha Jonas es triple monarca unificada WBC-IBF-WBO, por lo que en un cierto momento pareció inevitable que para su siguiente combate se enfrentase a su compatriota, campeona WBA superwélter, Terri Harper 13(6KO)-1(1)-1. Sin embargo, finalmente ambas siguieron caminos separados, lo que en el caso de Harper supuso terminar accediendo igualmente a una gran pugna. Este sábado, en el respaldo del Taylor-Cameron, pondrá en juego su corona ante la noruega, exnúmero 1 libra por libra, Cecilia “First Lady” Braekhus 37(9KO)-2.
Tras las dos derrotas ante la tosquísima Jessica McCaskill, que dejaron clarísima su enorme pérdida de rendimiento respecto a sus mejores años, pareció que la veterana Braekhus se retiraría. Sin embargo, después de terminar más de un año y medio de inactividad volviendo al ring en un sencillo rodaje, Braekhus encara un choque que tiene un significado totalmente diferente para las dos contendientes: para Harper es la oportunidad de sumar su más importante victoria, mientras que para Braekhus es una última ocasión de intentar mantener a flote su carrera profesional.
No cabe duda de que si Braekhus estuviese en su mejor momento podría derrotar a una boxeadora como Harper con la mano derecha en la espalda. Pero en estos momentos es muy difícil evaluar cuánto boxeo le queda y cuál es su estado mental y su motivación, por lo que parte como no favorita. Y es que, aunque Harper no tiene un estilo tan agresivo y tan desordenado como la potente McCaskill, tiene una base técnica lo suficientemente buena para poder aspirar al triunfo ante una rival 15 años mayor. No obstante, si Harper (que en su única pelea ante una púgil muy hábil fue noqueada brutalmente) plantea el encuentro de manera demasiado relajada y sin obligar a su oponente a desgastarse, quizás Braekhus pueda dar una última muestra de su gran jab y de su eficacia con el boxeo desde la distancia larga.
Hogan vs. Metcalf
En el respaldo del Taylor-Cameron se producirá también un tardío retorno a casa del exretador mundial del peso superwélter Dennis “Hurricane” Hogan 31(7KO)-4(2)-1, boxeador irlandés que tras pelear en Australia (donde reside), Estados Unidos, México y Alemania combatirá por primera vez en su país natal. Esto lo hará midiéndose al británico James “Kid Shamrock” Metcalf 24(15KO)-2(1), otro boxeador que, como él, es mañoso y está mucho más cerca del fin de su carrera que del comienzo.
Hogan tiene una descomunal ventaja en experiencia de calidad (ha peleado contra Jermall Charlo, Tszyu, Munguía y Culcay) que ayuda a que muchos consideren que, con su astuto y oportunista boxeo, podría obtener un triunfo por decisión en casa. Sin embargo, hace un año Metcalf tuvo una estupenda actuación como visitante ante Kerman Lejarraga, en la que mostró que es capaz de ofrecer un hábil boxeo de forma prolongada, que está en un muy buen estado de forma y que posee la fuerza y la resistencia incluso para combatir con pegadores en la distancia media-corta.
Así, si bien Hogan es un boxeador con destreza a la contra y capaz de frenar el ritmo de sus oponentes con taimados agarres, cuando no consigue tener éxitos regulares suele perder el orden y cansarse de forma decisiva, por lo que un Metcalf bastante completo y con mejor gestión del cansancio parte como favorito en las apuestas.
Cully y Agyarko
La cartelera principal también integrará nuevos combates para los invictos prospectos irlandeses Gary Cully 16(10KO)-0 y Caoimhin Agyarko 12(7KO)-0. “The Diva” Cully, 9º WBA y 13º WBO en el peso ligero, buscará su sexto triunfo antes del límite consecutivo y ofrecer una nueva demoledora actuación ante el mexicano José Félix 39(30KO)-6(2)-1, quien en sus dos últimas subidas al ring aguantó todos los asaltos peleando en el peso superligero contra Tyronne McKenna y Sandor Martín.
Por otro lado, “Black Thunder” Agyarko intentará volver a ganar por detención, algo que no logra desde 2021, enfrentándose al británico Grant Dennis 18(3KO)-4(2), quien parece tener complicado llegar a la última campana ante un rival tan explosivo (y quizás esta vez muy agresivo) después de haber sido batido por KOT a manos de Andrey Sirotkin y Danny Dignum.
El Taylor-Cameron y su respaldo serán emitidos este sábado por DAZN desde las 20:00 en hora española, las 19:00 en las Islas Británicas y las 14:00 ET/11:00 PT.

In the women’s super welterweight division, British Natasha Jonas is the unified WBC-IBF-WBO champion, so at a certain point it seemed inevitable for her to face her compatriot, WBA super welterweight champion, Terri Harper 13(6KO )-1(1)-1 in her next bout. However, eventually both went separate ways, which in the case of Harper meant ending up reaching another big fight. This Saturday, as Taylor-Cameron’s co-main event, she will put her crown at stake against the Norwegian, former number 1 pound-for-pound female boxer, Cecilia «First Lady» Braekhus 37(9KO)-2.
After her two losses against the very crude Jessica McCaskill, which undoubtedly proved her huge drop in performance compared to her prime, it seemed that the veteran Braekhus would retire. However, after ending more than a year and a half of inactivity returning to the ring in an easy tune-up, Braekhus faces a clash that has a totally different meaning for the two fighters: for Harper it is an opportunity to add her most important victory to her record, while for Braekhus it is one last chance to try to keep her professional career afloat.
There is no doubt that if Braekhus were in her prime she could outbox a fighter like Harper with her right hand behind her back. But right now it’s very difficult to assess how much boxing she has left and what her mental state and motivation is, so she is the betting underdog. Although Harper does not have such an aggressive and messy style as the powerful McCaskill, she has a good enough technical foundation to be able to aspire to victory against an opponent 15 years older. However, if Harper (who in her only fight against a very skilled fighter was brutally knocked out) approaches the match with a low pace and without forcing her opponent to wear herself down, perhaps Braekhus can put on one last display of her great jab and her effectiveness boxing from long distance.
Hogan vs. Metcalf
Taylor-Cameron’s undercard will also have the late return home of former super welterweight world challenger Dennis «Hurricane» Hogan 31(7KO)-4(2)-1, an Irish boxer who, after fighting in Australia (where he resides), United States, Mexico and Germany will fight for the first time in his native country. In this bout he will face the British James «Kid Shamrock» Metcalf 24(15KO)-2(1), another boxer who, like him, is crafty and is much closer to the end of his career than the beginning.
Hogan has a massive advantage in quality experience (he has fought Jermall Charlo, Tszyu, Munguia and Culcay) which makes many believe that, with his cunning and opportunistic boxing, he could pull off a decision win at home. However, a year ago Metcalf had a great performance on the road against Kerman Lejarraga, in which he showed that he is capable of using a skillful boxing in a consistent way, that he is in very good shape and that he possesses the strength and stamina to fight with punchers in the medium-short distance.
Thus, although Hogan is a boxer with countering ability and capable of slowing down his opponents’ pace with astute holds, when he does not manage to have regular successes he tends to lose composure and tire decisively, which is why a fairly complete boxer with better stamina as Metcalf is the betting favorite.
Cully and Agyarko
The main card will also feature new bouts for undefeated Irish prospects Gary Cully 16(10KO)-0 and Caoimhin Agyarko 12(7KO)-0. «The Diva» Cully, WBA No. 9 and WBO No. 13 at lightweight, will seek his sixth consecutive stoppage win, and put on another devastating performance, against Mexican José Félix 39(30KO)-6(2)-1, who in his last two ring appearances went the full distance fighting at super lightweight against Tyronne McKenna and Sandor Martín.
On the other hand, «Black Thunder» Agyarko will try to score a knockout, something he has not achieved since 2021, facing British Grant Dennis 18(3KO)-4(2), who should have a difficult time reaching the last bell against a fighter so explosive and motivated after being stopped by Andrey Sirotkin and Danny Dignum.
The Taylor-Cameron fight and its main support will be broadcast this Saturday on DAZN from 7:00 p.m. in the British Isles, 2:00 p.m. ET / 11:00 a.m. PT.
