Previa: Magomed Kurbanov vs. Michel Soro y Evgeny Tishchenko vs. Yves Ngabu en velada de RCC Boxing

Con la vuelta de los boxeadores rusos al ranking WBA, Magomed “Black Lion” Kurbanov 24(13KO)-0 obtuvo el puesto de 5º en la división del peso superwélter, así que en unos meses pasó de no estar ranqueado en ninguna lista mundial a situarse a una buena victoria de poder quedar al alcance de una eliminatoria. Es por ese motivo que este sábado en el KRK Uralets de Ekaterimburgo, Rusia, se enfrentará al número 2 WBA, al franco-marfileño Michel Soro 35(24KO)-3(1)-2, buscando situarse más cerca que nunca de un mundial.
En el caso de Soro, éste llega también de un periodo de estancamiento, pero por motivos totalmente diferentes. Y es que desde noviembre de 2019 sólo ha peleado dos veces, ambas ante el uzbeko Israil Madrimov, terminando los dos duelos de forma polémica y decepcionante para los fans: en el primero Madrimov estaba a las puertas de obtener un triunfo antes del límite cuando un fallo arbitral hizo que el noveno round durase más de la cuenta y que el KOT que entonces se produjo fuese ilegal, mientras que en el segundo Soro estaba encaminándose hacia la derrota antes de que éste sufriese un corte (por un cabezazo que él mismo propinó) y la pelea terminase en empate técnico.
Dicho esto, y teniendo en cuenta que Soro ha padecido evidentes dificultades en sus últimas dos peleas, podría dar la sensación de que Kurbanov debería poder ganar con contundencia este combate, y lo cierto es que el local será favorito para ganar. No obstante, no se debe perder de vista que Kurbanov es un boxeador que comete muchos errores tácticos, que ha perdido rounds ante rivales muy inferiores a Soro y que ni por asomo tiene el grado de heterodoxa habilidad, explosividad y dificultad que posee Madrimov.
Por ello, si no es que Soro ha padecido definitivamente un grave declive en su rendimiento o ha perdido totalmente la moral, debería poder ofrecer una dura pugna con sus golpes rectos a Kurbanov, que necesitará sacar lo mejor de su capacidad al contragolpe para intentar lograr uno de los dos mayores triunfos de su carrera.
Por otro lado, en el evento también participará el oro olímpico Evgeny Tishchenko 11(7KO)-1, que al igual que Kurbanov intentará lograr una de sus victorias más importantes. En su caso se medirá al fuerte y contundente belga Yves Ngabu 21(15KO)-1(1), excampeón de Europa que sólo ha sido derrotado por Lawrence Okolie. De ese modo, Tishchenko afrontará un test en el que deberá mostrar cómo puede lidiar con un boxeador más potente que él y en el que podrá hacer comparaciones respecto a qué distancia está del nivel de la cumbre.
En el resto de la cartelera, más allá de peleas de desarrollo para múltiples prospectos de la compañía, destaca una pugna del peso ligero en la que el 12º WBA, el armenio Zhora Hamazaryan 13(9KO)-3-2, que viene de derrotar a Jorge Linares, tratará de mejorar drásticamente su posicionamiento enfrentándose al 8º del mismo ranking, el nicaragüense Francisco Fonseca 31(25KO)-3(2)-2, que en su última pelea se anotó un rápido triunfo como visitante ante el clasificado mundial Billel Dib.
La cartelera principal de este evento será emitida en Rusia por Match Boets desde las 18:45 en hora de Moscú, las 17:45 en España, las 11:45 ET/8:45 PT, aunque es posible que también pueda ser ofrecida en el resto del mundo a través de YouTube.

With the return of Russian boxers to the WBA rankings, Magomed “Black Lion” Kurbanov 24(13KO)-0 was positioned as number 5 in the super welterweight division, so within a few months he went from being unranked on any world list to be one good victory away from being within reach of an eliminator. It is for this reason that this Saturday, at the KRK Uralets in Yekaterinburg, Russia, he will face the WBA number 2, the French-Ivorian Michel Soro 35(24KO)-3(1)-2, seeking to be closer than ever to a world title fight.
In the case of Soro, he also comes from a period of stagnation, but for totally different reasons. Since November 2019 he has only fought twice, both times against Uzbek Israil Madrimov and with the bouts ending in a controversial and disappointing way for the fans: in the first fight, Madrimov was on the verge of obtaining a stoppage victory when a mistake by the referee allowed the ninth round to last longer than three minutes, so the TKO that then occurred was illegal, while in the second Soro was heading towards defeat before he suffered a cut (from a headbutt that he himself caused) and the fight ended in a technical draw.
Considering that Soro has clearly struggled in his last two fights, it might seem like Kurbanov should be able to easily win this fight, and the truth is that the local fighter will be favorite. However, one must not lose sight of the fact that Kurbanov is a boxer who makes many tactical errors, who has lost rounds against boxers far inferior to Soro and who does not even remotely have the degree of unorthodox skill, explosiveness and difficulty that Madrimov possesses.
Therefore, if Soro has not definitely suffered a serious drop in performance or has completely lost morale, he should be able to generate a tough matchup to Kurbanov, who will need to bring out the best of his counter-punching ability to try to achieve one of the two biggest wins of his career.
Olympic gold medalist Evgeny Tishchenko 11(7KO)-1 will also participate in the event and, like Kurbanov, will try to achieve one of his most important victories. In his case, he will face the strong Belgian Yves Ngabu 21(15KO)-1(1), a former European champion who has only been defeated by Lawrence Okolie. In this way, Tishchenko will face a test in which he will have to show how he can deal with a boxer more powerful than him and in which he will be able to make comparisons regarding how far he is from the level of the top.
As for the rest of the card, beyond development fights for multiple prospects, a lightweight fight stands out. In it WBA number 12, Armenian Zhora Hamazaryan 13(9KO)-3-2, who comes from defeating Jorge Linares, will try to drastically improve his position in the ranking by facing the number 8 in the same list, Nicaraguan Francisco Fonseca 31(25KO)-3(2)-2, who in his last fight scored a quick win on the road against a ranked fighter, Australian Billel Dib.
The main card of this event will be broadcast in Russia by Match Boets from 18:45 Moscow time, 16:45 in the UK, 11:45 a.m. ET / 8:45 a.m. PT, although it is possible that it could also be aired in the rest of the world via YouTube.
