O2 Arena, Londres, Reino Unido.

O2 Arena, London, United Kingdom. WBA super welterweight eliminator.

Despite the final controversy, in the first match between the Uzbek Israil «The Dream» Madrimov 8(6KO)-0-1 and the French Michel Soro 35(24KO)-3(1)-2, the former was being superior and was solidly on his way towards a victory. In the rematch Madrimov again seemed getting close to a resounding victory, but a headbutt from Soro caused a cut around the left eyebrow of the latter that led to the stoppage of actions in the third round and to a technical draw.

From the start Madrimov displayed insistent and precise work to the body through jabs and straight right hands, which opened the door in the second round for a hard right hand to the head that hurt Soro. Things looked bad for the French, but in the third round he headbutted Madrimov in a strange action that caused a cut in Soro himself. The cut bled heavily and the doctor decided that the fight could not continue.

Thus, seven months after the first eliminator between the two boxers, it is once again up in the air who will be the mandatory challenger for the WBA super welterweight title.

Ramla Ali obtained triumph
If it wasn’t for political issues that Eddie Hearn and DAZN are trying to introduce into boxing events, the duel between British-Somali Ramla Ali 5(1KO)-0 and the Argentinian Agustina Rojas 6(0KO)-1 would surely have been part of the non televised card. But the fight, which was won on points (judge-referee 80-72) by Ali, ended up being the prior to the co-feature…

When the fight settled into the long range Ali was able to use her great reach advantage to impose her straight punches, but she didn’t always handle them properly in the beginning and sometimes Rojas managed to get to the short range and hit her with hooks. Thus, a fight that was theoretically tailor-made for the favorite Ali at times was more competitive than she should have allowed. In any case, Rojas often got entangled in clinches at short and was ineffective in deploying her attacks, and in general Ali’s long jabs, one-twos and one-two-hooks were decisive for her to win the rounds and the fight.
