De forma inevitable, tras el combate ante el panameño Ricardo “El Científico” Núñez 23(21KO)-4(2), la actuación del oro olímpico ruso Albert Batyrgaziev 7(5KO)-0 fue comparada a la del estadounidense Gervonta Davis, y ni siquiera los aficionados de su país se mostraron indulgentes con “AL BA”. Y es que, mientras “Tank” sólo necesitó dos asaltos para derrotar a Núñez sin esforzarse, Batyrgaziev llegó a una decisión, que venció de forma unánime aunque cansándose bastante. Con todo, realmente se debe tener en cuenta que Batyrgaziev, de 24 años, encaró con sólo 6 peleas de bagaje profesional su combate contra Núñez, mientras que Davis se midió al panameño tras 21 combates.
Además, la mayor diferencia entre los rendimientos de Batyrgaziev y Davis radicó en la diferencia en pegada entre ambos, ya que de poseer el primero la potencia del segundo el choque no habría tardado en terminar.
Aunque a Batyrgaziev le gusta tomar la iniciativa y abrumar con su cadencia, en esta ocasión su oponente era demasiado fuerte y tenaz como para dejarse presionar. Así que, aunque alcanzó a Núñez con jabs, astutos cruzados de mano adelantada y variadas combinaciones de rectos, Batyrgaziev no se pudo volcar al ataque, puesto que con sus precisas manos sacudía hacia atrás la cabeza del visitante (que no tenía gran defensa) pero no tenía la pegada para generar daños importantes ni para disuadir el avance de su oponente.
Por su parte, como podía lidiar bien con los golpes del ruso, Núñez mantuvo el terreno y trató de presionar, manejando su mano diestra en uppercut y hook para intentar incomodar y golpear al zurdo local. De todos modos, durante la primera mitad Batyrgaziev estuvo demasiado activo de manos y acertado como para perder asaltos ante un rival que era golpeado de forma habitual y que era llamativamente sacudido, a pesar de no ser dañado.
En la segunda mitad Batyrgaziev empezó a dar muestras de cansancio por el gran número de puños lanzados, y en un cierto momento “El Científico” logró tener resultados con sus fuertes golpes de poder en uppercut y gancho ante un rival más estático. Sin embargo, el oro olímpico se reposicionó y, mostrando su coraje, continuó llegando con nítidos golpes que terminaron poniendo en puntuales apuros a Núñez, ofreciendo ambos un emocionante y entretenido último round en el que los dos tuvieron sus momentos.
Si la pregunta es si “AL BA” está listo para la élite del peso ligero, la respuesta es evidente, ya que tiene que aprender a gestionar mucho mejor su consumo de energías, a boxear de forma más eficaz cuando no puede portar la iniciativa y a no lanzar tantísimos golpes sin contundencia.
Con todo, su potencial también resulta obvio, ya que cuenta con gran astucia, buen control del ring y una excelente selección de trayectorias de golpeo, por lo que en el futuro, cuando haya aprendido a sacar más provecho de sus virtudes y tenga más experiencia, seguramente será un serio contendiente al título. Especialmente considerando que, siendo un oro olímpico, indudablemente recibirá el apoyo necesario y las peleas de desarrollo adecuadas para que pueda materializar una evolución perceptible a medio-largo plazo a poco que sepa aprender las lecciones que se le ofrecen.

Inevitably, after the fight against the Panamanian Ricardo “El Científico” Núñez 23(21KO)-4(2), the performance of the Russian Olympic gold medalist Albert Batyrgaziev 7(5KO)-0 was compared to that of the American Gervonta Davis, and not even the fans of his country were indulgent with “AL BA”. While «Tank» only needed two rounds to defeat Núñez without making an effort, Batyrgaziev reached a decision, which he won unanimously although getting quite tired. All in all, it really must be taken into account that Batyrgaziev, who is 24, entered his fight against Núñez with only 6 professional fights, while Davis faced the Panamanian after 21 bouts.
In addition, the biggest difference between the performances of Batyrgaziev and Davis lies in the punch advantage of the American, since if the former had the power of the latter, the clash would have ended quickly.
Although Batyrgaziev likes to take the initiative and overwhelm his opponents with his work rate, this time his opponent was too strong and tenacious to be pushed back. So, although he hit Núñez with jabs, cunning lead hooks and varied combinations of straight shots, Batyrgaziev could not put pressure, since with his precise hands he shook back the head of the visitor (who did not have good defense) but didn’t have the punch to deal significant damage or dissuade his opponent’s advance.
For his part, as he was able to deal well with the Russian’s shots, Núñez kept his ground and tried to press, using his right hand in uppercut and hook to try to make uncomfortable and hit the local southpaw. However, during the first half of the bout Batyrgaziev was too active and accurate to lose rounds against an opponent who was constantly hit and shaken, despite not being hurt.
In the second half Batyrgazyev began to show signs of fatigue due to the large quantity of punches thrown, and at a certain point «El Científico» had positive results with his hard power shots with uppercuts and hooks against a more static opponent. However, the Olympic gold medalist repositioned himself and, showing his courage, he continued to connect sharp punches that ended up putting Núñez in trouble, offering both an exciting and entertaining last round in which the two boxers had their moments.
If the question is whether “AL BA” is ready for the lightweight elite, the answer is obvious, since he has to learn to manage his stamina much better, to box more effectively when he cannot take the initiative and to avoid throwing so many blows without forcefulness.
However, his potential is also evident, as he has great cunning, good ring control and an excellent selection of striking angles, so in the future, when he has learned to make the most of his virtues and has more experience, he will surely be a serious contender for the title. Especially considering that, being an Olympic gold medalist, he will undoubtedly receive the necessary support and the right development fights so that he can materialize a perceptible evolution in the medium-long term if he knows how to learn the lessons that he will be offered.
