Richardson Hitchins ganó deslucido debut con Matchroom, Raymond Ford noqueó a Lukas

El olímpico estadounidense Richardson Hitchins 15(7KO)-0 tiene fama de boxeador aburrido desde hace bastante tiempo, motivo por el que muchos cuestionaron la decisión de Matchroom Boxing de ficharlo. Pues bien, en su debut con la compañía, Hitchins ganó por abandono en el octavo asalto pero ofreció una actuación que provocó los abucheos de los espectadores, si bien es justo y necesario señalar que esta vez la culpa fue incluso más del puertorriqueño Yomar Álamo 20(12KO)-2(1)-1, que combatió de forma totalmente negativa para sus intereses y en general ofreció una mala actuación.
Como tantísimos otros boxeadores cada fin de semana, Álamo combatió de manera estratégicamente equivocada, en su caso cediendo la iniciativa y aceptando una pelea táctica y de bajo ritmo ante un adversario con mucho más alcance, técnica, precisión, recursos tácticos, etc. Así, Hitchins fue escogiendo calmadamente unos pocos jabs y algún directo o gancho zurdo para ganar los rounds ante un Álamo que parecía contentarse con estar en el ring.
Eventualmente, Álamo acortó los espacios y tiró alguna serie, pero los clinches de Hitchins le quitaron las pocas ganas que tenía de intentar luchar por la victoria y volvió a caminar por el ring errando contragolpes y siendo objetivo de las certeras manos del estadounidense, que realizó sutiles pero eficaces acciones defensivas. Con el paso de los minutos Álamo empezó a recibir manos nítidas con aún mayor facilidad y a parecer castigado y cansado, y sus tardíos intentos de reacción fueron infructuosos. Pero Hitchins no poseía la voluntad para buscar cerrar el combate, provocando los abucheos de un público nada convencido por el espectáculo ofrecido.
En cualquier caso, Álamo estaba planteando tan poca resistencia y le estaba poniendo las cosas tan fáciles a Hitchins que, entre la suma de pocas ganas de combatir, el cansancio por correr sin rumbo y la acumulación de puños recibidos, se alcanzó un punto en que el visitante consideró que era mejor abandonar el combate en el octavo asalto.
En una división con un nivel medio pobre, Hitchins podría tener un futuro espléndido apoyándose en su habilidad, pero militando en el peso superligero, en el que todos los púgiles de élite son más peligrosos, potentes y ofensivamente eficaces que él y poseen también gran nivel técnico y táctico, por ahora habrá que esperar a que efectúe una determinante evolución en su boxeo antes de poder considerarle un serio candidato a coronarse.
Ford sumó otro triunfo
Es difícil estar seguros sobre si el fallo al dar el peso del namibio Sakaria “Desert Storm” Lukas 25(17KO)-2(1)-1 fue sin querer o a propósito para intentar tener una ventaja. Pero el hecho es que no le sirvió para evitar la derrota ante el peso pluma Raymond “Savage” Ford 13(7KO)-0-1, que le batió por knockout en el octavo round.
En el primer round Ford se anotó un knockdown algo extraño al impactar un gancho diestro al cuerpo ante un Lukas que se desequilibró al intentar esquivar y se topó con las piernas del árbitro. En cualquier caso, el estilo heterodoxo y no muy veloz de Lukas encajaba mal con la gran rapidez de manos y la mejor técnica de Ford, que conectó veloces jabs, secos directos y cruzados de mano adelantada con los que se hizo con el control en el primer tramo.
Posteriormente, su frecuencia de golpes disminuyó de forma preocupante y el voluntarioso Lukas pudo apoyarse en su tesón para llegar con algunas combinaciones pese a las aptitudes defensivas de su contrincante. Pero el amago de reacción del namibio no solidificó, sino que Ford se acostumbró al ritmo de los ataques de su rival y le fue alcanzando con afilados contragolpes en directo o cruzado que cada vez resultaron más amenazadores.
Finalmente, el desgaste de Lukas, que perdió un punto por agarrarse y golpear en el séptimo round, resultó claramente visible y el estadounidense, con un gran cruzado diestro cuando su oponente intentaba llegar con un curvo de derecha, dejó tendido sin respuesta a “Desert Storm” en el octavo asalto y ganó el combate.
Ford era 8º WBA antes de esta victoria con un título menor de la Asociación en juego, por lo que ahora se situará un paso más cerca de alcanzar una eliminatoria.

US Olympian Richardson Hitchins 15(7KO)-0 has had a reputation as a boring boxer for quite some time, which is why many questioned Matchroom Boxing’s decision to sign him. In his debut with that company, Hitchins achieved an eight round corner stoppage win, but offered a performance that provoked the booing from the crowd. However, it is fair and necessary to point out that this time his opponent was more at fault than him, as Puerto Rican Yomar Álamo 20(12KO )-2(1)-1 fought in a totally negative way for his interests and in general offered a bad performance.
Like so many other fighters every weekend, Alamo made a wrong strategical choice, in his case giving up the initiative and accepting a slow-paced, tactical fight against an opponent with much more range, skill, precision, tactical resources, etc. Thus, Hitchins calmly used a few jabs and some straight hands or left hooks to win the rounds against Álamo, who seemed content just to be in the ring.
Eventually, Álamo shortened the distance and threw some combinations, but Hitchins’ clinches took away his small desire to try to fight for victory, and he returned to walk around the ring missing his shots and being the target of the accurate hands of the American, who performed subtle but effective defensive actions. As the minutes passed, Álamo began to receive sharp hands even more easily and to look punished and tired, and his late attempts to react were unsuccessful. But Hitchins did not have the will to seek to close the fight, so the fans in attendance booed the show they were being offered.
In any case, Alamo was putting up so little resistance and making things so easy for Hitchins that, with the sum of not wanting to fight, fatigue from running aimlessly, and the accumulation of punches received, the bout reached a point in which the visitor considered that it was better to stop it.
In a division with a poor level, Hitchins could have a splendid future relying on his ability, but fighting at super lightweight, weight class in which all the elite fighters are more dangerous, powerful and offensively effective than him (and also have a high technical and tactical level), for now it will be necessary to wait for him to make a decisive evolution in his boxing before we can consider him a serious candidate to be crowned champion.
Ford scored another victory
It’s not possible to be 100% sure about why the Namibian Sakaria “Desert Storm” Lukas 25(17KO)-2(1)-1 was overweight, that is, if he miscalculated or did it on purpose to try to have an advantage. But the fact is that it didn’t help him avoid losing to the American featherweight Raymond “Savage” Ford 13(7KO)-0-1, who knocked him out in the eighth round.
In the first round, Ford scored a strange knockdown when he landed a right hook to the body against Lukas, who lost his balance while trying to dodge and collisioned with the legs of the referee. In any case, Lukas’ unorthodox and not-very-fast style was tailor-made for Ford’s quick hands and better technique, and the favorite landed fast jabs, sharp straight hands and lead hooks to take control of the fight in the first stretch.
Subsequently, his punch output decreased worryingly and the courageous Lukas was able to use his tenacity to connect some combinations despite his opponent’s defensive skills. However the Namibian’s reaction did not solidify, and Ford got used to the rhythm of his opponent’s attacks and hit him in an increasingly threatening way with sharp counters in straight hand or lead hook.
Finally, the effect of Ford’s punches on Lukas (who lost a point for holding and punching in the seventh round) was clearly visible and the American, with a great right hook as his opponent tried to land a right hand, dropped hard “Desert Storm” in the eighth round and won the fight by knockout.
Ford was 8th in the WBA ranking before this victory in clash with a minor title of the Association on the line, so he will now move one step closer to reaching an eliminator.
