Evidentemente, en esta semana el Canelo-Golovkin centrará casi todas las miradas y, por lo tanto, ninguna gran promotora tratará de competir contra dicho evento el sábado. No obstante, aunque todo lo demás en las próximas jornadas quedará en gran parte eclipsado, antes de que llegue esa cartelera de Matchroom Boxing quienes lo deseen podrán entretenerse con ciertos combates de menor calibre pero con cierto interés.
Jueves 15 de septiembre
Actualmente, muchas compañías están bajando mucho el nivel medio de sus eventos, algo que también ha afectado a las carteleras de Roy Jones Jr Boxing Promotions emitidas a través de UFC Fight Pass. Como ejemplo se puede mencionar el evento de este jueves en el Yakama Legends Casino de Toppenish, Estados Unidos, en el que el invicto peso supermedio Andrew Murphy 6(4KO)-0 no debería tener problemas para noquear a Rafael García 9(6KO)-5(3) y en el que el peso ligero mexicano Jesús Saracho 11(10KO)-1(1) será claro favorito para vencer a un Nick Jefferson 10(5KO)-0 con una sola victoria sobre un rival de récord positivo y que no boxea desde hace tres años.
Por otro lado, en el Nissan Arena de Brisbane, Australia, se ofrecerá un PPV de Main Events que, entre otros combates, alguno de ellos bastante excéntrico, contará con la participación del pegador del peso supermedio Jack Bowen 7(7KO)-0, que buscará mantener su 100% de knockouts ante un rival normalmente resistente en el circuito australiano como Renold Quinlan 14(9KO)-11(4). Además, el peso superwélter Benjamin Hussain 6(3KO)-1(1) disputará una pelea de desarrollo ante un boxeador no brillante pero sí capaz como el joven Lachlan Higgins 7(2KO)-5-2.
Viernes 16 de septiembre
Pasando al viernes, en este día se producirá la mayor prueba de la carrera de uno de los mayores prospectos actuales del peso pesado, ya que en el Casino de Montreal, Canadá, emitido por ESPN+ (y otras de las ramas de ESPN), el ruso Arslanbek “Lion” Makhmudov 14(14KO)-0 se verá las caras con el exretador mundial Carlos Takam 39(28KO)-6(4)-1. Más allá de comprobar cómo se maneja Makhmudov en este test ante un boxeador muy experimentado, el combate tendrá también el interés de comparar la actuación del ruso con la que ofreció ante el mismo Takam el invicto Joe Joyce, que se impuso por KOT en el sexto asalto.
En el semifondo del cartel, el peso medio local Steven “Bang Bang” Butler 30(25KO)-3(3)-1 tratará de sumar su tercera victoria desde su derrota ante José de Jesús Macías midiéndose al estadounidense Mark “The Bazooka” DeLuca 28(16KO)-3(1).
Unas horas antes, en el York Hall de Londres, Reino Unido, BT Sport televisará una velada de Frank Warren en la que el campeón británico del peso medio Denzel Bentley 16(13KO)-1(1)-1 afrontará la primera defensa de este reinado enfrentándose a Marcus “Sweet MNM” Morrison 25(16KO)-5(1), quien en otro tiempo fue considerado un prometedor boxeador pero que, tras un puñado de derrotas (algunas ante rivales de nivel bajo), es visto como poco más que una víctima propiciatoria para boxeadores con aspiraciones.
El restante combate destacable del cartel será un encuentro del peso crucero en el que Ellis Zorro 14(6KO)-0 tratará de acercarse a una pelea titular en el ámbito de Reino Unido pugnando contra el excampeón inglés del peso semipesado Dec “Kid Nytro” Spelman 18(9KO)-5(1).
Mencionados estos combates, se pueden destacar también estos otros:
-En el Rudolf Weber-Arena de Oberhausen, Alemania, el exretador mundial del peso supermedio Shefat Isufi 35(24KO)-4(1)-2 se medirá a un rival que podría ser complicado para su nivel como el fogueado canadiense Ryan Ford 17(12KO)-7(1). Además, el 15º WBA del peso crucero Leon Harth 20(13KO)-5(2) se enfrentará al campeón de Francia Brandon Deslaurier 14(3KO)-4-1 en un duelo bien emparejado.
-En el Palenque de la Expo de Ciudad Obregón, México, el prospecto del peso ligero Luis “Koreano” Torres 16(10KO)-0 disputará una seria prueba y una buena pelea de desarrollo ante el invicto César “Torito” Gutiérrez 14(5KO)-0-2.
-En The Fillmore en Philadelphia, Estados Unidos, el joven peso ligero Jeremy Cuevas 14(10KO)-1 comparará su rendimiento con Jousce González midiéndose a su último oponente, el ecuatoriano José Angulo 14(7KO)-3(1).
-En el Gran Circo Estatal de Moscú, Rusia, se producirá una velada en la que participarán invictos prospectos como Ivan Kozlovsky 5(2KO)-0 y el bronce olímpico Gleb Bakshi 1(1KO)-0, si bien estos se medirán a oponentes sencillos para sus niveles como el ghanés Michael Ansah 23(17KO)-10(3)-2 y el venezolano Juan Ruiz 27(19KO)-7(4).
-En el Polideportivo Municipal de Las Varas, Argentina, emitido por TyC Sports, William Andrés Herrera 13(5KO)-1, en racha de diez victorias, tratará de capturar su primer título menor ante un boxeador con más experiencia de calidad como el zurdo Sergio Manuel Liendo 14(4KO)-6(5).
Sábado 17 de septiembre
Aunque es un enfrentamiento en el que todo está en contra de Gennadiy Golovkin, que tendrá dificilísimo evitar la derrota estando su rendimiento en un punto muy bajo, su tercera pelea contra Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez será para la gran mayoría de aficionados la cita ineludible de la semana o incluso del mes.

En el respaldo de este evento, aunque no estará ni mucho menos a la altura de los grandes PPV del pasado, se producirán peleas mencionables, ya que Jesse Rodríguez pugnará contra el exretador mundial Israel González, el prometedor peso medio Austin Williams se enfrentará a Kieron Conway y los peso supermedio Ali Akhmedov y Diego Pacheco afrontarán peleas separadas ante “King” Rosado y Enrique Collazo.

Dejando esto de lado, la única promotora de ciertas dimensiones que ofrecerá un evento el sábado será Wasserman, que tiene planeada una velada en el University of Bolton Stadium de Bolton, Reino Unido. En la cartelera principal, que estará televisada por Channel 5, el campeón británico y de la Commonwealth del peso ligero Gavin Gwynne 15(3KO)-2(1) tratará de seguir expandiendo el mejor momento de su carrera (tras victorias ante Luke Willis y Sean McComb) midiéndose a un Craig “Smiler” Woodruff 12(4KO)-6(1) que, pese a ser el favorito, es un rival con cierto peligro. Como muestra de ello se debe tener en cuenta que Woodruff derribó aparatosamente al destacado prospecto Gary Cully.
En teoría el choque principal del evento contará con el excampeón de la Commonwealth del peso semipesado Lyndon “King” Arthur 19(13KO)-1(1), que disputará su primer combate desde su derrota ante Anthony Yarde (KO en el cuarto round) enfrentándose a un boxeador que fue batido por este mismo rival y en la misma cantidad de tiempo, el argentino Walter Gabriel “El Yacaré” Sequeira 25(17KO)-9(5)-1.
Dicho esto, el sábado se pueden mencionar estos otros encuentros:
-En el Emperors Palace de Kempton Park, Sudáfrica, el peso pesado Kevin “The KO Kid” Lerena 27(14KO)-1 disputará su mayor test hasta la fecha en la división midéndose al exretador mundial Mariusz “The Viking” Wach 36(19KO)-8(4).
-En el Mielparque Hotel de Osaka, Japón, el campeón de Japón del peso superpluma Kosuke Saka 21(18KO)-6(4) realizará la segunda puesta en juego de su cinturón ante el joven pegador Tsubasa Narai 8(7KO)-1(1).
-En el Cuban Boxing Club de Dubái, Emiratos Árabes Unidos, el prospecto de buena carrera amateur, y oro nacional cubano, Armando Martinez 7(6KO)-0 se enfrentará en una pelea de desarrollo en el peso ligero al fogueado filipino Al Toyogon 13(9KO)-6(1)-1.
-En el Magna Centre de Rotherham, Reino Unido, el invicto Dom “Hurricane” Hunt 10(1KO)-0 expondrá su título regional británico (Central Area) del peso wélter contra un rival con más experiencia de calidad como el exretador al título inglés Darren Tetley 21(9KO)-3(1).
-En el Club Municipal Lagomarsino de Manuel Alberti, Argentina, TyC Sports televisará un combate en el que el dos veces olímpico Yamil Peralta 13(6KO)-1 buscará regresar a la senda del triunfo, tras su controvertida derrota ante Ryan Rozicki, enfrentándose al brasileño Fabio Maldonado 28(27KO)-5(2).

Obviously, on this week the fight Canelo-Golovkin will focus all the attention and, therefore, no major promotional companies will try to compete against it on Saturday. However, although everything else in the coming days will be largely overshadowed, before the beginning of that Matchroom Boxing, those who want to do so could get entertained with some bouts of much less importance but with some interest.
Thursday, September 15
Currently, many companies are lowering the level of their events a lot, something that has also affected the Roy Jones Jr Boxing Promotions cards broadcast through UFC Fight Pass. As an example, it can be mentioned Thursday’s bill at the Yakama Legends Casino in Toppenish, United States, in which the undefeated super middleweight Andrew Murphy 6(4KO)-0 should not have any issues to knock out Rafael García 9(6KO)-5(3) and in which the Mexican lightweight Jesús Saracho 11(10KO)-1(1) will be the clear favorite to beat Nick Jefferson 10(5KO)-0, with a single victory over an opponent with a positive record and who has not boxed for three years.

Moving on to Friday, in this day will take place the biggest test to date for one of the best current heavyweight prospects, since at the Montreal Casino in Montreal, Canada, broadcast on ESPN+, Russian Arslanbek “Lion” Makhmudov 14(14KO)-0 will face former world title challenger Carlos Takam 39(28KO)-6(4)-1. Beyond checking how Makhmudov manages this bout against a very experienced boxer, the fight will also have the interest of comparing the performance of the unbeaten with the one offered against Takam by Joe Joyce, who beat him by TKO in the sixth round.
In the co-feature, local middleweight Steven “Bang Bang” Butler 30(25KO)-3(3)-1 will try to score his third victory since his loss to José de Jesús Macías fighting American Mark “The Bazooka” DeLuca 28(16KO)-3(1).
