Parece que no nos queda otra que resignarnos a la nueva forma de entender las veladas de pago que tienen las grandes promotoras mundiales, ya que el evento del Canelo-Golovkin III, pese a ser emitido en PPV en Estados Unidos, no contará con un respaldo de gran calibre, como tampoco lo han tenido las últimas carteleras en pay per view de PBC, Top Rank, Queensberry Promotions, etc.
En cualquier caso, comparándolo con muchos de los eventos de sus competidores, el respaldo del Álvarez-Golovkin será superior, aunque aun así no justifica ni por asomo el precio de 85 dólares que tendrá en Estados Unidos, cifra llamativa especialmente estando a cargo del PPV una compañía de suscripción como DAZN, que nació asegurando que iba a terminar con los pagos por visión en el boxeo…
“Bam” busca superar a “Chocolatito”
El semifondo de la velada será un combate con un clarísimo favorito, puesto que la estrella emergente del peso supermosca Jesse “Bam” Rodríguez 16(11KO)-0 se enfrentará a un exretador mundial como el mexicano Israel “Jiga” González 28(11KO)-4(1)-1. Dicho de otro modo, un Rodríguez que parece tener el nivel necesario para aspirar al número 1 de la división y derrotar a los máximos exponentes del peso supermosca se medirá a un González que, pese a ser voluntarioso y capaz, tiene un calibre inferior al de la cumbre y que ha sufrido derrotas ante todos sus rivales de élite (Román González, Jerwin Ancajas y Khalid Yafai).
Por lo tanto, el gran interés de este enfrentamiento estará en las comparaciones entre la previsible victoria de Rodríguez y la que obtuvo “Chocolatito” ante el mismo adversario. En este sentido, Rodríguez posiblemente logre un triunfo más contundente que siga poniendo las bases para un futuro choque entre él y el nicaragüense que podría suponer un definitivo relevo generacional.
Conway piedra de toque
El británico Kieron “Too Class” Conway 18(4KO)-2-1 es, pese a sus brechas, un buen boxeador de nivel nacional que, si recibiese el mismo apoyo que otros de sus compañeros de escuadra, podría lograr alguna meritoria victoria internacional. Sin embargo, Matchroom Boxing ha decidido usarlo como una mera piedra de toque para impulsar a otros boxeadores. Así, tras utilizar a Conway para mejorar el ranking del peso superwélter Souleymane Cissokho, ahora el púgil será usado como un peldaño para una de las máximas promesas actuales del peso medio como el estadounidense Austin “Ammo” Williams 11(9KO)-0.
Si el choque Conway-Cissokho ya fue un emparejamiento difícil estilísticamente para el primero, que perdió ampliamente pero que aun así tuvo la garra suficiente para anotarse un knockdown, el combate en una división superior ante un Williams zurdo, con mucho más alcance, más potencia y mayor peligro ofensivo que Cissokho es un reto todavía más complicado para “Too Class”. Por ello, es de suponer que Williams podrá imponer su técnica y su explosividad en este mayor combate de su carrera hasta la fecha (ante un rival tenaz pero con sólo 22% de triunfos antes del límite) y que apuntará a ingresar en el top 5 WBA capturando un título menor.
Akhmedov y Pacheco en peleas separadas
Puede que algún día el kazajo Ali Akhmedov 18(14KO)-1(1) y el mexicano Diego Pacheco 15(12KO)-0 lleguen a enfrentarse sobre un cuadrilátero, pero por ahora ambos boxeadores tendrán el privilegio de participar en el respaldo de un cartel tan importante enfrentándose a oponentes ante los que serán claros favoritos como “King” Gabriel Rosado 26(15KO)-15(4)-1 y Enrique Collazo 16(11KO)-2-1.
En el caso de Akhmedov, aunque todavía está presente el recuerdo de su inesperada derrota ante Carlos Góngora, que contrasta con el sorprendente triunfo obtenido por Rosado ante Bektemir Melikuziev, el kazajo es un boxeador mucho más potente, más joven e infinitamente menos castigado que “King”, que lleva años recibiendo multitud de golpes de poder ante boxeadores de nivel alto. Por ello, y siendo preocupante la cantidad de puños que recibió en sus doce asaltos ante Munguía, Rosado parece tener muy difícil volver a lograr una gesta como ante Melikuziev, incluso aunque se sospecha que Akhmedov podría ser algo quebradizo.
Respecto a Pacheco, él no se mide a un experimentado veterano de probada valía, sino a un olímpico que no ha logrado despuntar como profesional como Collazo. De hecho, más que no sobresalir, Collazo ha generado grandes dudas, algo comprensible teniendo en cuenta que fue derrotado por el mismo DeAndre Ware que el pasado sábado fue fácilmente aplastado por Christian Mbilli. Por ello, y no soliendo acabar bien las cosas para los púgiles de destacada carrera amateur que tras nueve años de carrera profesional no han batido ni siquiera a un oponente de nivel medio-alto, un Pacheco desbordante de confianza y que con cada pelea parece más sólido y consistente debería poder imponer su potencia para lograr una contundente victoria.
La cartelera principal del evento Canelo-Golovkin III será emitida por DAZN desde las 2:00 de la madrugada del sábado al domingo en hora española, las 20:00 ET/17:00 PT en Estados Unidos.

It seems that we have no choice but to resign ourselves to the the new way in which the biggest world promotional companies see the PPV evenings, since the card Canelo-Golovkin III will not have a high-level support, as neither had it the recent pay-per-view events from PBC, Top Rank, Queensberry Promotions, etc.
In any case, compared to many of its competitors’ bills, the undercard of the event Álvarez-Golovkin III will be superior, although even so it does not even remotely justify the price of 85 dollars, a striking figure especially coming from a subscription company like DAZN, which was born assuring that it was going to end pay-per-views in boxing…
“Bam” seeks to outperform “Chocolatito”
The co-feature bout of the evening will have a wide favorite, since the super flyweight rising star Jesse “Bam” Rodríguez 16(11KO)-0 will face a former world title challenger like the Mexican Israel “Jiga” González 28(11KO)-4(1)-1. In other words, a boxer who seems to have the level to aspire to defeat the biggest names in the weight class and claim the number 1 spot will face an opponent who, despite being brave and capable, has a level below the summit and has suffered defeats against all his elite rivals (Román González, Jerwin Ancajas and Khalid Yafai).
Therefore, the main interest of this bout will be in the comparisons between the predictable victory of Rodríguez and the one obtained by «Chocolatito» against this same opponent. In this sense, Rodríguez will possibly achieve a more convincing triumph that will continue to lay the foundations for a future clash between him and the Nicaraguan, which could represent a definitive generational change at super flyweight.
Conway as stepping stone
The British Kieron «Too Class» Conway 18(4KO)-2-1 is, despite his flaws, a good national-level boxer who could achieve some meritorious international victories if he received the same support as other of his teammates. However, Matchroom Boxing has decided to use it as a mere stepping stone to boost the careers of other boxers. Thus, after resorting to Conway to improve the ranking of super welterweight Souleymane Cissokho, now the British fighter will be employed as a stepping stone for one of the current top middleweight prospects, the American Austin “Ammo” Williams 11(9KO)-0.
If the clash Conway-Cissokho was stylistically difficult for the former, who lost widely but still had enough grit to score a knockdown, the fight in a higher division against the southpaw Williams, who has much more reach, power and offensive danger than Cissokho, is an even more difficult challenge for “Too Class”. Therefore, it is to be assumed that Williams will be able to impose his technique and explosiveness in this biggest fight of his career to date (against a tenacious rival but with only 22% of stoppage wins) and that he will enter the top 5 WBA capturing a minor belt.
Akhmedov and Pacheco in separate fights
Kazakh Ali Akhmedov 18(14KO)-1(1) and Mexican Diego Pacheco 15(12KO)-0 may one day battle each other, but for now both boxers will have the privilege of participating in the support of such a bill facing opponents against whom they will be clear favorites as “King” Gabriel Rosado 26(15KO)-15(4)-1 and Enrique Collazo 16(11KO)-2-1.
In the case of Akhmedov, although the memory of his unexpected defeat against Carlos Góngora is still present, which contrasts with the upset victory obtained by Rosado against Bektemir Melikuziev, the Kazakh is a boxer much more powerful, younger and infinitely less punished than “ King”, who in his career has received thousands and thousands of power shots. For this reason, and being worrying the number of punches he was hit with in his twelve rounds against Munguía, it seems hard for Rosado to achieve a feat like he did against Melikuziev, even though it is suspected that Akhmedov chin could be somewhat fragile.
Regarding Pacheco, he will not fight against an experienced veteran of proven worth, but rather an Olympian who has failed to stand out as a professional like Collazo. In fact, more than not standing out, Collazo has generated big doubts, something understandable considering that he was defeated by the same DeAndre Ware who was easily crushed last Saturday by Christian Mbilli. For this reason, and taking into account that things do not usually end well for boxers with an outstanding amateur career who, after nine years of professional career, have not beaten even a medium-high level opponent, a boxer like Pacheco with great confidence and who with each fight seems more solid and consistent should be able to impose his power to achieve a resounding victory.
The main card of the Canelo-Golovkin III event will be broadcast on DAZN this Saturday from 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT in the United States, 1:00 a.m. in the United Kingdom.
