En no pocas ocasiones, el que se plantea como el retorno triunfal de un boxeador a su país o a su ciudad termina en una actuación por debajo de las expectativas o en una dolorosa derrota, siendo esto debido quizás a la acumulación de presión mental por intentar lucir ante su público. En el caso de Florian “Albanian King” Marku 12(7KO)-0-1, éste quizás ofreció la actuación más floja de su carrera boxística ante el mexicano Miguel Ángel “Maquina ” Parra 21(14KO)-3(2)-1, que le derribó contundentemente en una ocasión. No obstante, Marku evitó la derrota y terminó haciéndose con una merecida victoria por decisión unánime de los jueces.
En un principio Parra, que contaba con ventaja en altura, usó su uno-dos boxeando sin tener la iniciativa para frenar las entradas de un Marku que se mostró lento de piernas. Sin embargo, el púgil local usó mucho los bloqueos durante casi todo el combate y en ocasiones dio un oportuno paso atrás, así que no recibió demasiados golpes o no muy preocupantes. Además, desde el tercer round Marku usó su timing para llegar con claros golpes de poder en gancho y realizar ofensivas más eficaces.
El impulso del albano fue a más en el cuarto round, en el que el árbitro contabilizó erróneamente como un knockdown una caída de Parra causada por un leve empujón combinado con un tropezón con el pie de su rival. De todos modos, poco después Marku padeció un corte cerca de su ojo izquierdo por un cabezazo involuntario y eso le llevó a precipitarse en sus acciones, mientras que en el quinto round el mexicano salió más agresivo intentando compensar el knockdown.
En ese asalto y en el sexto, el empuje inicial de Parra terminó quedando frenado por los bloqueos y los contragolpes de Marku, que volvió a presionar hacia las cuerdas a su contrincante y a conectar algún directo y gancho zurdo. Es más, en el séptimo asalto “Albanian King” sacó una buena combinación tras la cual Parra presentó un serio corte en su pómulo derecho, perdiendo además un punto el visitante por pegar en un clinch después de que el árbitro pidiese que se separasen.
Entonces la situación era crítica para “Máquina” Parra, que en el octavo episodio aprovechó un error de su rival para, en un posterior cruce de golpes, llegar antes con un gancho zurdo y derribar duramente a Marku. El púgil afectado pasó ciertas dificultades y dio la sensación de que el tiempo de round duró menos de tres minutos, pero en adelante Parra no supo aprovechar el posible punto de inflexión que había creado y Marku volvió a presionar un tanto en el noveno asalto y en el décimo, tras incontables bloqueos, cerró el combate con nítidos golpes de poder.
Dado que el enrachado Marku entraba como amplio favorito al choque ante un rival que en su anterior mayor combate se había quedado muy corto, la actuación del invicto estuvo lejos de ser lo suficientemente buena. De hecho, el knockdown padecido por Marku podría haber llegado a ser trascendental en otras circunstancias y, por lo demás, tuvo absurdos excesos de confianza bajo ataque, tuvo problemas para acortar los espacios de manera efectiva e insistió en soluciones equivocadas, como un aislado gancho zurdo con salto que falló muchísimas veces.
Con todo, el fuerte Marku supo reaccionar ante la adversidad, tuvo momentos de notable habilidad (en sus astutas esquivas y sus precisas contras) y mostró un uso de los bloqueos que, cuando no se descuidaba, fue bastante sólido. Además, al fin y al cabo se hizo con la victoria y, aunque es evidente que ante la parte alta del peso wélter podría ser claramente derrotado, afianzará su posición en las listas y, con sólo 12 victorias, apuntará a retos de considerable calado en el futuro próximo.

On many occasions, what pretends to be a triumphant return of a boxer to his country or city ends in a performance below expectations or in a painful defeat, this being perhaps due to the accumulation of mental pressure for the willingness to shine in front of his fans. In the case of Florian “Albanian King” Marku 12(7KO)-0-1, he perhaps offered the worst performance of his boxing career against Mexican Miguel Ángel “Máquina” Parra 21(14KO)-3(2)-1, who knocked him down once. However, Marku avoided defeat and ended up earning a unanimous decision victory.
At first Parra, who had height advantage, used his one-two boxing without having the initiative to stop the attacks of Marku, who was slow on his legs. However, the local fighter blocked a lot during most of the fight and occasionally took a well-timed step back, so he didn’t receive too many dangerous punches. In addition, from the third round Marku used his timing to land clear power shots in hook and make more effective offensives.
The Albanian’s momentum increased in the fourth round, in which the referee erroneously ruled a knockdown when Parra, after a slight push combined with a trip with his rival’s foot, fell to the canvas. However, shortly after, Marku suffered a cut near his left eye from a headbutt and that led him to rush his actions, while in the fifth round the Mexican came out more aggressive trying to compensate the knockdown in the scorecards.
In that round and in the sixth, Parra’s initial push ended up being stopped by blocks and counterpunches from Marku, who again pressed his opponent towards the ropes and connected straight punches and left hooks. Moreover, in the seventh round «Albanian King» threw a good combination, after which Parra had a serious cut on his right cheekbone, and the Mexican lost a point for hitting the visitor in a clinch after the referee asked them to stop.
The situation was critical for «Máquina» Parra, who in the eighth episode took advantage of a mistake by his opponent to, in a subsequent exchange of blows, land first a left hook and knockdown hard Marku. The hurt boxer had some difficulties and it seemed that the round time lasted less than three minutes. Nonetheless, from then on Parra did not know how to take advantage of the possible turning point that he had created, and Marku again pressed somewhat in the ninth round and in the tenth, after countless blocks, closed the fight with clear power shots.
With Marku coming into the clash in good streak and as a wide favorite against an opponent who had fallen far short in his previous biggest bout, the performance from the unbeaten was far from good enough. In fact, Marku’s knockdown might have been decisive in other circumstances and, otherwise, sometimes he was absurdly overconfident under attack, struggled to close distance effectively and insisted on wrong solutions, such as an isolated leaping left hook that missed many times.
Still, the strong Marku knew how to react in an adverse situation, had moments of remarkable skill (in his clever dodges and his precise counters) and showed a use of blocks that overall was quite solid. On the other hand, at the end of the day, he achieved victory and, although it is evident that against the top of the welterweight division he could be clearly defeated, he will consolidate his position in the rankings and, with only 12 victories, he will aim to challenges of considerable importance in the near future.
