El enfrentamiento Montana Love vs. Steve Spark encabezará velada de Matchroom/DAZN

Este viernes la compañía Matchroom Boxing ha confirmado que organizará una nueva velada emitida por DAZN el día 12 de noviembre, si bien el anuncio del combate estelar ha dejado a los aficionados indiferentes en el mejor de los casos. Y es que, la pugna estelar será un duelo del peso superligero entre el estadounidense Montana “Too Pretty” Love y el australiano Steve “The Viking” Spark, quien es conocido esencialmente por haber sido vapuleado en tres rounds por el superwélter Tim Tszyu.
La idea de la promotora es vender que Spark es un temible pegador y que su única derrota llegó en una división que no era la suya, si bien su nivel parece completamente diferente al de un Love que, si ofrece una buena versión de sí mismo, debería poder imponerse solventemente gracias a su gran habilidad. De hecho, más allá de las maniobras promocionales, esta pugna en principio parece que ha sido pactada sólo para que Love pueda brillar ante su público, ya que el choque se producirá en el Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse de su ciudad natal y de residencia, Cleveland, Estados Unidos.
En el anuncio oficial, Love mostró su entusiasmo por esta oportunidad:
“De héroe de barrio a superestrella. ¡Cleveland, lo logramos baby! Estoy feliz de anunciar que voy a defender mi título aquí en mi ciudad. Esto es algo que soñé cuando era un niño. Estoy deseando ofrecer una actuación de superestrella. Necesito que venga todo el mundo de mi ciudad. ¡Vamos a defender nuestra tierra!”.
Por su parte, Spark se mostró confiando en vencer y convencer:
“He estado trabajando muy duro durante muchos años para este momento. Tengo el mejor equipo del mundo, al que no le pudo dar las gracias suficientemente por haber hecho esto posible. Tengo muchas ganas de explotar en la escena boxística internacional con una victoria espectacular. Los fans del boxeo americanos van a disfrutar mucho, ya que creo que les va a encantar mi estilo lleno de acción. Respetamos el boxeador que Montana Love es, tiene muchas credenciales, pero es por eso que aceptamos este combate. Venimos preparados, y venimos a ganar. Cuando llegue el 12 de noviembre, no habrá Love [juego de palabras, en inglés Love es amor]”.
Respecto a Eddie Hearn, éste afirmó:
“Este es el escenario y el momento que Montana ha estado esperando. Y ahora necesita agarrarlo con las dos manos. La oportunidad de encabezar una velada en casa en un combate que puede llevar a una pelea por título mundial, hace de esta la mayor noche de su vida, y con los fans de Cleveland detrás de él, este es el momento para demostrar que pertenece a la élite. Pero Stevie tiene otras ideas. Australia es uno de los mercados que más rápido está creciendo en el boxeo, y esperamos construir estrellas Down Under [en Australia]. Si “The Viking” puede empaquetar su pegada y traerla a Ohio, podría convertirse en un gran agente en el peso superligero de la noche a la mañana”.
Montana Love vs. Steve Spark will headline Matchroom/DAZN evening

This Friday, the company Matchroom Boxing has confirmed that it will organize a new evening broadcast by DAZN on November 12, although the announcement of the main event has been received by fans, at best, with indifference. That is because the main fight will be a super lightweight duel between the American Montana «Too Pretty» Love and the Australian Steve «The Viking» Spark, who is essentially known for having been beaten in three rounds by the super welterweight Tim Tszyu.
The idea of the promoter is to sell the bout by saying that Spark is a fearsome puncher and that his only defeat came moving up two divisions, although his level seems completely different from that of Love, who should be able to win clearly if offers a good version of his boxing and exploits his great skill. In fact, beyond the promotional maneuvers, it looks like this match have been agreed only for Love to shine in front of his fans, since the clash will take place at the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in his hometown, Cleveland, USA.
In the official announcement, Love showed his enthusiasm for this opportunity:
“From neighborhood hero to superstar – Cleveland we did it baby! I am happy to announce I will be defending my title here in my hometown. This is something I dreamed of as a kid. I’m looking forward to putting on a superstar performance. I need everybody in my city to come out – let’s defend the land!”
For his part, Spark is confident in winning and impress:
“I’ve been working very hard for a lot of years for this moment. I have the best team in the world who I can’t thank enough for making this possible. I’m looking forward to exploding into the international boxing scene with a spectacular win. The American boxing fans are in for a treat, as I believe they will love my all-action style. We respect the fighter Montana Love is, he is highly credentialed but that’s why we took this fight. We are coming prepared, and we are coming to win. Come November 12, there will be no Love!”
Regarding Eddie Hearn, he stated:
“This is the stage and moment that Montana has been waiting for – and now he needs to take it with both hands. The chance to headline at home in a fight that can lead to World title action makes this the biggest night of his life, and with the Cleveland’s fans behind him, this is the moment to prove he belongs in the elite. But Stevie has other ideas. Australia is one of the fastest growing markets for boxing, and we’re looking to build stars Down Under. If ‘The Viking’ can pack his punch power and bring it to Ohio, he could become a major player at 140lbs overnight.”
