Como es habitual en esta época del año, la cantidad de combates se ha visto algo reducida. No obstante, un par de eventos de grandes compañías sumados a un puñado de esparcidos encuentros con interés, darán más que suficiente con lo que entretenerse en este fin de semana boxístico.
Jueves 7 de julio
En esta jornada de jueves habrá un par de combates mencionables. En la Piazza Dante de Grosseto, Italia, el peso wélter Simone “Il Bandito” Giorgetti 8(3KO)-0-1 afrontará su mayor prueba hasta la fecha ante un rival con más experiencia de calidad como el exretador al título italiano Mirko Di Carlantonio 13(3KO)-9-1, un boxeador sin derrotas antes del límite y que debería servir bien para medir el desarrollo y la proyección actual del imbatido. Además, se espera que la pelea sea emitida por YouTube.
En cuanto al otro choque del día, el peso superpluma colombiano Ibran “El Asesino” Retamozo 11(9KO)-0 disputará su primer combate fuera de su país peleando en Celaya, México, contra un adversario competente y duro como el local Ulises “El Cheke” Suárez 9(6KO)-5-1, que en la mayoría de sus derrotas ha perdido por mínima diferencia de puntos ante boxeadores con mayor apoyo promocional.
Viernes 8 de julio
El boxeador mejor clasificado que peleará en el viernes será el filipino, exretador mundial del peso mosca, Giemel “Pistolero” Magramo 25(20KO)-2(1), 6º WBC y 12º IBF y WBO que pondrá fin a nueve meses de inactividad enfrentándose a otro exaspirante mundial tagalo como Jerry Tomogdan 29(15KO)-12(7)-4 en el Elorde Sports Complex de Paranaque City, Filipinas. No obstante, en esta pugna, que en principio será emitida por Facebook, Magramo será abrumador favorito, puesto que es un potente pegador, motivado y con aspiraciones que se enfrentará a una piedra de toque con limitado encaje.
Por otro lado, el viernes combatirán en peleas separadas dos boxeadores que son rivales directos en la clasificación WBA del peso wélter. Uno de ellos es el pegador argentino José “Sansón” Rosa 14(11KO)-0, 15º WBA que en una velada emitida por TyC Sports desde el Estadio Municipal Héctor Gallucci de San Lorenzo, Argentina, debería poder imponerse solventemente al peruano Jesús “El Rayo” Bravo 20(17KO)-6(3)-1, un púgil voluntarioso y con alguna actuación meritoria pero con un récord parcial de 2-6.
El otro ranqueado en la lista wélter de la Asociación es el tayiko Mekhrubon Sanginov 12(9KO)-0-1, 14º WBA que en un evento emitido por Fite desde el Hilton Miami Airport de Miami, Estados Unidos, afrontará una pelea de desarrollo ante el competente colombiano Janer González 20(16KO)-4(3)-1, que ha sufrido sus cuatro derrotas ante clasificados mundiales como Eimantas Stanionis (aspirante obligatorio WBA), Ivan Golub, Jamal James y Radzhab Butaev.
En cuanto a choques titulares, el viernes destaca un campeonato de Italia del peso superligero que se celebrará en el Stadio Campo Roma de la capital italiana. Los contendientes en este combate serán el titular Charlemagne “Charly” Metonyekpon 10(1KO)-0 y el aspirante Jacopo Fazzino 6(1KO)-5, combate de revancha de un duelo ganado a los puntos por Metonyekpon en 2020 en el que éste volverá a ser favorito para imponerse y retener su cinturón por primera vez.
En el respaldo se producirá un duelo del peso wélter en el que el local Pietro Rossetti 14(7KO)-1 intentará acumular experiencia y extender su racha de victorias ante el exaspirante al título español Aarón Alhambra 11(3KO)-1.
Terminando con el viernes, también se pueden mencionar estos enfrentamientos:
-En el Korakuen Hall de Tokio, Japón, se producirá un choque del peso pluma potencialmente contendido entre el joven Ryuya Nihei 7(1KO)-2-1 y el experimentado Mugicha Nakagawa 24(14KO)-8(1)-2.
-En el Steve Tshwete Banquet Hall de Middelburg, Sudáfrica, se producirá un campeonato nacional sudafricano del peso gallo en el que el invicto titular Ronald “King” Malindi 18(9KO)-0 buscará la cuarta defensa de su reinado, y finalizar una inactividad de dos años, peleando contra Rofhiwa Nemushungwa 13(3KO)-7-2, que viene de ganar al exaspirante mundial Siboniso Gonya.
-En el Max Muaythai Stadium de Pattaya, Tailandia, el veterano Pipat Chaiporn 47(30KO)-13(3)-2 disputará su primer combate en casi tres años ante el indonesio Hebi Marapu 16(12KO)-1.
Sábado 9 de julio
El único campeonato mundial de esta semana será el WBC del peso pluma entre el invicto monarca Mark Magsayo y el excampeón mundial Rey Vargas. Este combate encabezará una velada de PBC y Showtime en la que se producirán también la eliminatoria WBC del peso pluma Brandon Figueroa vs. Carlos Castro y el choque del peso ligero Frank Martin vs. Jackson Maríñez.

Unas horas antes, en Reino Unido, Matchroom Boxing y DAZN ofrecerán una velada que estará encabezada por dos revanchas: el choque del peso pesado Dereck Chisora vs. Kubrat Pulev y la eliminatoria WBA del peso superwélter Israil Madrimov vs. Michel Soro. Además en el evento participarán también púgiles como Felix Cash, Caoimhin Agyarko o Solomon Dacres.

Otro de los carteles destacados del día tendrá lugar en Rusia, y en él el invicto peso superwélter Magomed Kurbanov buscará la segunda mayor victoria de su carrera ante el excampeón mundial Patrick Teixeira. En el respaldo combatirá, entre otros, la insigne promesa del peso supermedio Pavel Silyagin ante el mexicano José de Jesús Macías.

El restante evento de relieve del sábado será el organizado por ProBox Promotions, y emitido a través de su plataforma de suscripción, desde el Whitesands Events Center de Plant City, Estados Unidos. El choque estelar será en el peso superligero entre el invicto local Cesar Francis 10(6KO)-0 y el veterano excampeón mundial Raymundo Beltrán 37(23KO)-9(3)-1. Dado que ProBox está intentando impulsar la carrera de Francis a toda costa, que éste llega de una muy polémica victoria ante Mohamed Mimoune y que Beltrán es un púgil poco veloz y cerca del retiro, en principio el duelo parece pensado para intentar dar algo de brillo al récord del invicto, quien sobre todo se deberá centrar en intentar ofrecer una actuación mucho más convincente que en su última pelea.
En el respaldo del Francis-Beltrán, el peso pesado alemán Christian “The Hurricane” Thun 8(6KO)-0 buscará una nueva victoria antes del límite ante el estadounidense Curtis Harper 13(9KO)-8(3), que viene de hacer diez rounds ante el invicto prospecto Brandon Moore, mientras que el peso crucero Brandon “Bulletproof” Glanton 15(12KO)-0 disputará un rodaje en teoría sencillo para su nivel contra su compatriota DeShon Webster 12(6KO)-5(2)-3.
Dicho esto, en el sábado sólo quedan por destacar estos otros combates:
-En el Garden Tennis de Royan, Francia, el resistente Brandon Deslaurier 13(2KO)-4-1, que aguantó todos los rounds ante Mairis Briedis, tratará de proclamarse a la segunda campeón de Francia peleando por el vacante cinturón del peso crucero ante Guillaume Hauet 12(7KO)-2(1).
-En el Campo Deportivo del Colegio Privado IMEI de Cañuelas, Argentina, TyC Sports emitirá una pugna en la que el peso ligero Damián Rojas 15(11KO)-2(2)-1 disputará su segundo combate pactado a diez rounds ante el resistente Jesús Daneff 10(4KO)-7-3.
-En el Complexe Sportif la Canopee de Pierre-Bénite, Francia, se producirá un bien emparejado combate del peso superligero entre el local Faycal Rezkallah 7(1KO)-2-1 y el español Ricardo Fernández 11(0KO)-7.
-En el Olympia de Liverpool, Reino Unido, el prospecto Jake Barton 7(2KO)-0 afrontará un exigente test ante el exretador al título inglés Mickey Ellison 12(4KO)-4(1), estando además en juego un cinturón regional británico (Central Area) del peso semipesado.

As usual in this time of the year, the amount of fights has been reduced. However, a couple of events organized by big companies, added to some scattered interesting bouts, will provide more than enough entertainment in this boxing weekend.
Thursday, July 7
On this Thursday there will be a couple of mentionable fights. At Piazza Dante in Grosseto, Italy, the welterweight Simone “Il Bandito” Giorgetti 8(3KO)-0-1 will face his biggest test to date against an opponent with more quality experience as former Italian title challenger Mirko Di Carlantonio 13(3KO)-9-1, a boxer without stoppage defeats and who should serve well to measure the current development and projection of the undefeated. In addition, the fight is expected to be broadcast on YouTube.
As for the other match of the day, the Colombian super featherweight Ibran “El Asesino” Retamozo 11(9KO)-0 will have his first fight outside his country battling in Celaya, Mexico, against a competent and tough opponent like the local Ulises “El Cheke” Suárez 9(6KO)-5-1, who in almost all of his loses was defeated by minimum point difference against boxers with more promotional support.

The highest-ranked boxer who will fight on Friday will be the Filipino, former world flyweight challenger, Giemel “Pistolero” Magramo 25(20KO)-2(1), 6th WBC and 12th IBF and WBO who will end nine months of inactivity by facing another former world challenger like Jerry Tomogdan 29(15KO)-12(7)-4 at the Elorde Sports Complex in Paranaque City, Philippines. However, in this match, which will broadcast through Facebook, Magramo will be the overwhelming favorite, as he is a powerful, motivated puncher with aspirations who will face a stepping stone with limited resistance.
On the other hand, on Friday two boxers who are direct rivals in the WBA welterweight ranking will fight in separate bouts. One of them is the Argentinian puncher José “Sansón” Rosa 14(11KO)-0, 15th WBA who, in an evening broadcast by TyC Sports from the Estadio Municipal Héctor Gallucci in San Lorenzo, Argentina, should be able to clearly beat the Peruvian Jesús “El Rayo” Bravo 20(17KO)-6(3)-1, a fighter with some meritorious performances but with a partial record of 2-6.
The other ranked welterweight is the Tajik Mekhrubon Sanginov 12(9KO)-0-1, 14th WBA who in a card broadcast by Fite from the Hilton Miami Airport in Miami, United States, will face a development fight against the competent Colombian Janer González 20(16KO)-4(3)-1, who has suffered his four losses against world ranked fighters such as Eimantas Stanionis (WBA mandatory challenger), Ivan Golub, Jamal James and Radzhab Butaev.
As for title bouts, on Friday stands out an Italian super lightweight championship that will take place at the Stadio Campo Roma in the capital of Italy. The contenders in this duel will be the titleholder Charlemagne “Charly” Metonyekpon 10(1KO)-0 and the challenger Jacopo Fazzino 6(1KO)-5, rematch of a fight won on points by Metonyekpon in 2020 in which this boxer will be favorite to prevail again and retain his belt for the first time.

The only world championship in this week will be for the WBC featherweight belt and between the undefeated champion Mark Magsayo and the former world titleholder Rey Vargas. This bout will headline a PBC and Showtime evening that will also feature the WBC featherweight eliminator Brandon Figueroa vs. Carlos Castro and lightweight clash Frank Martin vs. Jackson Maríñez. A few hours before, in the United Kingdom, Matchroom Boxing and DAZN will offer a card that will be headlined by two rematches: the heavyweight fight Dereck Chisora vs. Kubrat Pulev and the WBA super welterweight eliminator Israil Madrimov vs. Michael Soro. Given that ProBox is trying to promote Francis’ career at all costs, that he is coming from a very controversial victory against Mohamed Mimoune and that Beltrán is a slow fighter and close to retirement, the duel seems an attempt to improve the record of the unbeaten, who above all will have to focus on trying to offer a much more convincing performance than in his last fight.
In the undercard of the event Francis-Beltrán, the German heavyweight Christian “The Hurricane” Thun 8(6KO)-0 will seek a new stoppage victory against the American Curtis Harper 13(9KO)-8(3), who comes from doing ten rounds against the undefeated Brandon Moore, while cruiserweight Brandon “Bulletproof” Glanton 15(12KO)-0 will face a theoretically easy stay-busy fight against his compatriot DeShon Webster 12(6KO)-5(2)-3.
