Como la velada de Frank Warren de este sábado había perdido las peleas Johnson-Mikhalkin y Heaney-Trimech, finalmente el semifondo fue precedido por el combate del peso ligero entre el invicto británico Mark “Thunder” Chamberlain 11(7KO)-0 y el español Marc Vidal 13(5KO)-3-5. Este duelo terminó con un resultado de victoria por decisión unánime para el local Chamberlain. Las puntuaciones fueron justas, dando triple 100-90.
Con potentes hooks al cuerpo Chamberlain empezó a tener buenos resultados muy pronto, mientras que cuando Vidal trató de responder lanzándose al ataque el visitante recibió un nítido directo de izquierda a la contra que le dejó tocado y que casi le derribó. Tras ser atacado peligrosamente antes del fin del primer round, el valiente Vidal volvió al ataque en el segundo asalto, llegando con alguna tenaz combinación de hooks, pero Chamberlain le replicó con peligrosos ganchos y fuertes uno-dos.
Al final del tercer round el visitante volvió a estar en apuros y en el cuarto fue golpeado por curvos al cuerpo y sacudido por rectos, pero Vidal siguió avanzando y llegando con ganchos entre los golpes de poder y los clinches de Chamberlain. En cualquier caso, aunque a Vidal no le faltaron ganas o coraje, el preciso Chamberlain se estaba llevando la mejor parte de forma constante con sus variadas manos acompañadas de desplazamientos.
La pelea siguió así hasta el octavo round, en el que Vidal fue duramente castigado por rectos contra las cuerdas y pareció cerca la detención, pero ni esta ni ninguna otra ofensiva pudo quebrar la resistencia del excampeón de Europa, que llegó hasta la última campana.
Fletcher debutó arrollando
Antes de este combate se produjo el rápido debut profesional del prometedor peso crucero británico Tommy Fletcher 1(1KO)-0, que sólo necesitó un minuto para terminar con el croata Aron Vrnoga 1(0KO)-1(1). Con unos treinta segundos transcurridos, Fletcher impactó un fuerte izquierdazo que puso en el tapiz a Vrnoga, que poco después de la reanudación fue golpeado y derribado por un par de ganchos, dando el árbitro por concluida la pugna.

As this Saturday Frank Warren’s event had lost the bouts Johnson-Mikhalkin and Heaney-Trimech, the co-feature was finally preceded by the lightweight match between the undefeated Briton Mark “Thunder” Chamberlain 11(7KO)-0 and the Spaniard Marc Vidal 13(5KO)-3-5. This duel ended with a wide unanimous decision in favor of the local Chamberlain. The scores were fair: triple 100-90.
With powerful hooks to the body, Chamberlain began having good results very early, while when Vidal tried to answer marching forward the visitor received a clean counterpunch through a left hand that hurt him and almost dropped him. After being dangerously attacked before the end of the first round, the brave Vidal was back on the attack in the second round, landing some tenacious combination of hooks, but Chamberlain countered with dangerous hooks and strong one-twos.
At the end of the third round the Spaniard was in trouble again and in the fourth he was hit by body shots and was rocked by straight punches, but Vidal continued to advance and connected hooks between the power shots and clinches of Chamberlain. In any case, although Vidal did not lack will or courage, the precise Chamberlain was constantly getting better results with his varied hands accompanied by side steps.
The fight continued like this until the eighth round, in which Vidal was severely punished by straight hands against the ropes and the stoppage seemed close, but neither this nor any other offensive could break the resistance of the former European champion, who reached the last bell.
Fletcher debuted steamrolling
Before this bout took place the quick professional debut of the promising British cruiserweight Tommy Fletcher 1(1KO)-0, who only needed a minute to defeat the Croatian Aron Vrnoga 1(0KO)-1(1). With about thirty seconds elapsed, Fletcher landed a hard left hand that put on the mat Vrnoga, who shortly after the restart was hit and knocked down by a couple of hooks. Then the referee decided to stop the fight.
