For the first time in her career, Mexican prospect Tania “La Chula” Enríquez 18(8KO)-0 faced an opponent with top-level experience such as the Mexican former world champion Nancy “Chatita” Franco 19(5KO)-17(3)-2. In this serious test, Enríquez did not fall short, quite the contrary, since she showed good boxing with or without initiative to achieve a very clear victory by decision.

In the first round, Franco showed her aggressiveness launching a hard attack on her opponent, but the southpaw Enríquez was not intimidated, and she landed counterpunches with left uppercut and right hook combinations to shake off the pressure and take the initiative. Advancing on her rival and taking her to the ropes, Enríquez connected precise one-twos, hooks to the body or good jabs to control the actions and the rounds against Franco, who tried to defend herself with overhands and hooks without achieving decisive successes.

At the beginning of various rounds, such as the third or the fifth, «La Chatita» charged again, landing a few lead hooks, but Enríquez generally dealt very well with these attacks using her footwork to quickly get out of the the ropes and occupy the center of the ring, from where she dominated again. In the last round Franco tried to roll her last dice, but her final combativeness failed to prevent Enríquez from achieving the well-deserved victory.

Before this bout, in which a minor belt of the Council was at stake, Enríquez appeared as the 3rd WBC light flyweight to challenge the Mexican champion Yesenia Gómez, so the world championship opportunity is not far away. Even so, with the No. 1 Kim Clavel planning to face Gomez in the near future (the bout was even scheduled but had to be postponed) and being followed by Seniesa Estrada, Enríquez might still have to wait until next year to reach the title fight, time that she can take advantage of to further expand her experience and continue making adjustments in her boxing, that already seems really solid and effective.
