La derrota del excampeón mundial ruso Fedor Chudinov 25(17KO)-3(1)-1 ante el uzbeko Azizbek “AAA” Abdugofurov 14(5KO)-1 fue importante desde un punto de vista del análisis de la situación del top 15 del peso supermedio. Con todo, no lo fue debido al tropiezo de Chudinov en sí, ya que viendo las actuaciones de sus últimos años era de suponer que el púgil iba a padecer una derrota más pronto que tarde.
Si fue importante el combate fue debido a que ilustró indirectamente hasta dónde llega el nivel del prometedor Pavel Silyagin. Y es que, aunque Silyagin obtuvo una nítida y bastante brillante victoria ante Abdugofurov, este último generó graves dificultades tácticas a un Chudinov que, pese a estar perdiendo rendimiento, es un fuerte y combativo exmonarca mundial ranqueado en el top 15. De hecho, Abdugofurov logró el triunfo unánime, si bien con muy excesivas cartulinas de 98-91, 97-92 y un 97-93.
Fiel a su estilo, Chudinov salió a presionar a Abdugofurov, pero éste le recibió con manos muy duras con hooks al cuerpo, secos jabs, derechas rectas o combinaciones de uppercut y gancho al rostro. Cuando el uzbeko se descuidaba, deteniendo sus pasos laterales o no sacando sus golpes con determinación, Chudinov aprovechaba para lanzar alguna serie y tratar de agobiar con su avance, teniendo quizás sus mejores éxitos durante el primer tramo en un tercer round en el que movió un tanto a su rival con potentes cruzados. No obstante, por lo general fue Abdugofurov quien sacó las manos más tensas y precisas y quien usaba mejor las acciones defensivas con esquivas estáticas y dinámicas.
Para intentar evitar que su oponente progresase en corta o para anticiparse a un posible ataque, el visitante recurrió a menudo a los clinches de manera táctica, algo que por lo general supo hacer con astucia. Así, no siendo Chudinov tan potente o explosivo como en el pasado, usando bien Abdugofurov el boxeo sin iniciativa con secos jabs y certeras contras y estando atento para evitar manos peligrosas, “AAA” obtuvo una decisiva ventaja en las tarjetas en la primera mitad.
Tratando de reaccionar, desde el sexto asalto Chudinov se mostró más agresivo e insistente aún, lo que le permitió impactar buenos golpes de poder ante un Abdugofurov que empezó a cansarse visiblemente. El uzbeko continuó llegando con manos muy precisas y contundentes, pero estas se espaciaron mucho, cada vez se quedaba más estático y Chudinov encontraba más oportunidades para sus persistentes ganchos. Además, Abdugofurov perdió un punto en el octavo asalto por reiteración en los agarres.
Sin embargo, aunque dio la sensación de que el extitular recortó diferencia de manera importante y aunque el visitante incluso tuvo que recurrir a la cinta adhesiva “despegada” y a la “caída” del protector bucal, los jueces valoraron mucho más la claridad de golpeo del visitante Abdugofurov en acciones escogidas que los toscos pero insistentes esfuerzos de Chudinov, a quien injustamente sólo le dieron uno y dos rounds.
De todos modos, aunque el combate fue más contendido de lo que sugieren las cartulinas, el hecho es que si Chudinov siempre ha tenido un estilo frontal que le perjudicaba ante boxeadores técnicos o con la suficiente fuerza para no dejarse abrumar, ahora que sus cualidades físicas están en merma esto se ha agravado aún más, por lo que era difícil que no sufriese una derrota en sus pretensiones en el top 15 de la división.
Por otro lado, en cuanto a Abdugofurov, éste sumó la mayor victoria de su carrera y próximamente debería recibir una importante oportunidad en la que intentar demostrar una vez más sus virtudes, si bien necesitará evitar nuevas largas inactividades que, como se apreció el viernes, no contribuyen nada positivamente a su gestión de las energías, que está lejos de ser ideal.

The defeat of the Russian former world champion Fedor Chudinov 25(17KO)-3(1)-1 against the Uzbek Azizbek “AAA” Abdugofurov 14(5KO)-1 was important for the analysis of the situation in the super middleweight division’s top 15. However, that was not exactly due to Chudinov’s setback, since taking into account his recent performances it was predictable that the boxer was going to suffer a defeat sooner rather than later.
If the fight was important, that is because it indirectly showed the level of the promising Pavel Silyagin. Although the skillful Silyagin obtained a clear and quite brilliant victory against Abdugofurov, the latter generated serious tactical difficulties to Chudinov who, despite his decreasing level, is a strong and combative former titlist ranked in the top 15. In fact, Abdugofurov achieved the unanimous victory, although with very excessive scorecards of 98-91, 97-92 and 97-93.
As always, Chudinov tried to put pressure on Abdugofurov, but the latter met him with hard hooks to the body, sharp jabs, straight rights or combinations of uppercuts and hooks. When the Uzbek got careless, stopping his lateral steps or not throwing his shots with determination, Chudinov launched combinations of punches trying to overwhelm with his advance, having perhaps his best successes during the first stretch in a third round in which he shook a bit his rival with powerful overhands. However, it was usually Abdugofurov who connected the hardest, more accurate punches and who used better the defensive actions with static and dynamic dodges.
In an attempt to prevent his opponent’s attacks or to stop his progress at close range, the visitor often resorted to tactical clinches, something he usually did cunningly. Thus, as Chudinov is not as powerful or explosive as in the past, and Abdugofurov was boxing well without initiative through good jabs and accurate counters (while avoiding dangerous shots), “AAA” obtained a decisive advantage on the scorecards in the first half.
Trying to react, from the sixth round on Chudinov was even more aggressive and insistent, which allowed him to land good power shots against Abdugofurov, who began to tire visibly. The Uzbek continued to hit his rival with very precise and forceful hands, but now these were less frequent, he became more and more static and Chudinov found more opportunities for his persistent hooks. Additionally, Abdugofurov lost a point in the eighth round for repeated holding.
However, although it seemed that the former beltholder reduced the difference importantly and although the visitor even had to resort to the “unstuck” adhesive tape and the «fall» of the mouthpice, the judges valued much more the clarity of the punches of the visitor Abdugofurov in chosen actions than the not very technical but insistent efforts of Chudinov, who was unfairly given only one and two rounds.
In any case, although the fight was more contested than the scorecards suggest, the fact is that Chudinov has always had a frontal style which has lead him to difficulties against technical boxers or with enough strength not to be overwhelmed. Now that his physical qualities are in decline this has worsened, so it was difficult for him not to suffer a defeat soon despite his aspirations in the division’s top 15.
As for Abdugofurov, he obtained the biggest victory of his career and he should receive an important opportunity in which to try to demonstrate his virtues once again, although he needs to avoid more long layoffs that (as was obvious in the bout) contribute negatively to his far from ideal stamina.
