El enfrentamiento estuvo igualado y tuvo diferentes fases. Inicialmente Maestre tuvo más acierto con sus ganchos presionando, pero posteriormente Shelestyuk usó su jab y sus directos para remontar boxeando a distancia. Finalmente, el choque dejó algunos igualados intercambios y dispar grado de acierto de ambos en sus planteamientos. De todos modos, la opinión mayoritaria es que Maestre impactó más golpes de poder en el último tramo y que mereció la victoria pese al resultado de empate.
