Gary Cully le asestó su derrota más rápida a “Títere” Vázquez, “Pantera” Farías truncó el record invicto de Sandy Ryan

El prospecto irlandés Gary “The Diva” Cully 14(8KO)-0 aseguró que no iba a desperdiciar la oportunidad que le había dado Matchroom Boxing y efectivamente así fue. Enfrentándose al experimentado mexicano Miguel “Títere” Vázquez 44(17KO)-11(3), Cully demostró su gran potencial asestándole en el quinto round la derrota más rápida de su carrera al correoso excampeón mundial.
Más que un choque de estilos fue un choque de heterodoxias, en el que ambos mostraron sus armas desde el comienzo: Vázquez con sus inesperadas entradas y su astucia entre agarres y Cully con su seco jab y sus duros rectos. En cualquier caso, el irlandés era quien tenía más eficacia y peligro, destacando sus zurdazos y sus cruzados de mano adelantada, que precedieron un knockdown en el tercer round con una izquierda recta a la contra.
Vázquez no quedó críticamente mermado y en adelante intentó seguir desplegando su poco convencional boxeo, pero Cully siguió entrando y saliendo, evitando golpes, hostigando con su uno-dos-hook y causando daños, volviendo a poner en apuros al “Títere” en el cuarto asalto. En el siguiente round llegó la conclusión, puesto que una izquierda de Cully tiró al tapiz a Vázquez, que no pudo seguir.
Sandy Ryan perdió su invicto
La peso superligero británica Sandy Ryan 3(2KO)-1 encaró una prueba de fuego muy pronto en su carrera ante la veterana argentina Erica “La Pantera” Farías 27(10KO)-5, reto que le supuso su primera derrota profesional. Y es que, pese a las potentes manos que conectó, tuvo una inadecuada gestión táctica y se descuidó en defensa, lo que le supuso caer derrotada por decisión dividida ante la frecuencia y la experiencia de Farías. Las cartulinas fueron de 97-93, 94-97 y 94-95.
Al comienzo Farías se manejó entre desplazamientos y arremetidas para sorprender a su contrincante con rectos y ganchos aislados y breves combinaciones. Ryan usó su jab, pero estaba visiblemente incomodada, especialmente cuando se vio presionada por las series de curvos de la argentina. Tras recibir nítidos golpes en el tercer round, la local comenzó a reaccionar y empezó a sacar duros ganchos y uppercuts de mano adelantada, si bien tardó en encontrar su ritmo por las bien escogidas ofensivas de la visitante y sus astutos clinches.
En el sexto round Ryan causó daños claros con su gancho al hígado, pero su planteamiento era simplista, se exponía mucho y tenía escasa variedad de recursos, así que Farías, pese a que no le sobraban demasiadas energías, pudo ganar rounds posteriores con sus buenas combinaciones, provocando además una hemorragia nasal en su rival. Finalmente, ambas púgiles intercambiaron duramente en los últimos dos asaltos intentando lograr la victoria, momento en el que “La Pantera” perdió un punto por reiteración en el uso de la cabeza. Con todo, el mayor volumen de golpes de Farías a ojos de los jueces compensó la potencia de las menos numerosas manos de la local.

Irish prospect Gary “The Diva” Cully 14(8KO)-0 assured that he was not going to waste the opportunity that Matchroom Boxing had given him, as he proved in the ring. Facing the experienced Mexican Miguel “Títere” Vázquez 44 (17KO)-11(3), Cully showed his great potential by dealing in the fifth round the fastest defeat of his career to this tricky former world champion.
More than a clash of styles, it was a clash of unorthodoxies, in which both showed their weapons from the beginning: Vázquez with his unexpected attacks and cunning between clinches and Cully with his sharp jab and his hard straight punches. In any case, the Irishman was the boxer with the most efficiency and danger, standing out his left hands and his lead hooks, which preceded a third-round knockdown with a counter straight left.
Vazquez was not critically hurt and tried to continue displaying his unconventional boxing from then on, but Cully kept going in and out, avoiding punches, attacking with his one-two-hook and causing damage, putting “Títere” in trouble again in the fourth round. The fifth round was the last one of the fight, as a left hand from Cully knocked to the mat Vázquez, who could not continue.

British super lightweight Sandy Ryan 3(2KO)-1 faced a hard test very early in her career against Argentine veteran Erica “La Pantera” Farías 27(10KO)-5, a challenge that brought her the first loss of her professional career. Despite the powerful hands that she connected, Ryan had an inadequate tactical management and was careless in defense, so she ended defeated by split decision against the punch rate and experience of Farías. The scorecards were 97-93, 94-97 and 94-95.
At the beginning, between movements and attacks, Farías surprised her opponent with straight punches, hooks and short combinations. Ryan used her jab, but she was visibly uncomfortable, especially when she was pressured by the series of hooks of the Argentine boxer. After taking clean shots in the third round, the local began to react and she unleashed hard hooks and lead uppercuts, although she didn’t find her rhythm due to the well-chosen offenses of the visitor and her clever clinches.
In the sixth round Ryan caused clear damage with his hooks to the liver, but her tactical approach was simplistic, she exposed herself a lot and had little variety of resources, so Farías, despite not having much energy left, was able to win later rounds with her good combinations, also causing a nosebleed in his opponent. Finally, both fighters exchanged hard in the last two rounds trying to achieve victory, and then «La Pantera» lost a point for headbutting. However, in the eyes of the judges the greater volume of punches from Farías compensated the power of the less numerous hands of the British fighter.
