Aunque durante semanas Josh Taylor confundió con las declaraciones en una u otra dirección respecto a su futuro, ahora parece finalmente que el boxeador se ha decidido a subir al peso wélter y a abandonar sus cuatro cinturones mundiales del peso superligero, algo que ha confirmado en un comunicado público. Por ello, lo que durante meses se ha estado previendo, o sea un futuro vacío de poder total en el peso superligero con los cuatro cinturones unificados dejados vacantes, está a las puertas de materializarse.
Es por ello que el de por sí importante enfrentamiento entre los contendientes José Carlos “Jaguar” Ramírez 26(17KO)-1 y José “Sniper” Pedraza 29(14KO)-3(1) resulta ahora trascendental. Y es que Ramírez es 2º WBC y 7º WBO mientras que Pedraza es 6º WBO y 10º WBC, por lo que el ganador del cruce entre ambos, que se producirá este viernes en una velada de Top Rank desde el Save Mart Arena de Fresno, Estados Unidos, dará un paso decisivo para asegurarse el acceso al mundial cuando los cinturones queden sin dueño.
Por otro lado, el duelo resulta muy interesante en lo deportivo, puesto que, más allá de la rivalidad México vs. Puerto Rico, es un choque de estilos de calidad entre dos excampeones mundiales con habilidad y fogueados ante oponentes de élite. En el caso de Ramírez, éste es un boxeador muy fuerte y con no poca potencia que cuenta con un peligroso gancho zurdo y cuya única derrota oficial llegó ante el citado campeón indiscutido Josh Taylor. En cuanto a Pedraza, es un hábil y móvil boxeador con afilados contragolpes, variedad de recursos ofensivos y defensivos y que ha sumado sus tropiezos ante Gervonta Davis, Vasiliy Lomachenko y José Zepeda.
Quizás algunos sientan que, después del controvertido triunfo de Ramírez ante un dinámico Postol, Pedraza podría tener una buena opción de triunfo si mantiene un ágil juego de piernas, boxea desde la distancia larga y varía sus combinaciones. Sin embargo, en las casas de apuestas es sólido favorito Ramírez.
Primeramente, se tiene la impresión de que Ramírez es un boxeador más tenaz y que ante las dificultades siempre sabe cavar hondo en búsqueda de la victoria. Por otro lado, y en parte relacionado con esto último, el californiano Ramírez, que peleará como local, ha tenido dos victorias controvertidas en sus últimos tres triunfos, mientras que en su única derrota los jueces ajustaron demasiado las puntuaciones a pesar de que cayó dos veces a la lona, de modo que es posible que en una decisión de los jueces pueda volver a recibir el beneficio de la duda. Finalmente, aunque Postol logró mantener a raya a Ramírez durante, al menos, la mitad de los asaltos, el ucraniano es un púgil más grande que Pedraza y con un boxeo quizás más simple pero más correoso.
Por ello, aunque el corte de ring de Ramírez no fue óptimo ante el citado excampeón y Pedraza podría conectar manos nítidas si muestra tantos reflejos y precisión como en sus últimos tres combates (hay que recordar que llega de quebrar al prospecto Julian Rodríguez), puede que la constancia ofensiva de “Jaguar”, su mayor resistencia y su potencia puedan permitirle obtener la victoria ya sea por decisión o logrando desgastar al visitante. Dicho esto, se equivocan quienes infravaloran a Pedraza, ya que si éste ofrece su mejor versión, un adecuado plan de batalla y lo ejecuta a la perfección podría generar serias complicaciones tácticas, especialmente si Ramírez no logra presionarle con la suficiente dureza.
El Ramírez-Pedraza y su respaldo, en el que se incluirá un combate entre los exretadores mundiales Joet González 24(14KO)-2 y Jeo Santísima 21(18KO)-3(1), serán emitidos en Estados Unidos el viernes a través de ESPN+ desde las 20:30 ET/17:30 PT. En los países en los que no se pueda acceder a una emisión de ESPN se podrá comprar un PPV de Fite que se inicia a las 3:30 del viernes al sábado en hora española.

Although for weeks Josh Taylor confused the fans with declarations in one direction or another regarding his future, now it finally seems that the boxer has decided to move up to welterweight and abandon his four super lightweight world belts, something he has confirmed through a statement. Therefore, what has been predicted for months, that is, a future with the four super lightweight unified belts vacant, is on the verge of materializing.
That is why the important confrontation between contenders José Carlos “Jaguar” Ramírez 26(17KO)-1 and José “Sniper” Pedraza 29(14KO)-3(1) is now transcendental. Ramírez is 2nd WBC and 7th WBO while Pedraza is 6th WBO and 10th WBC, so the winner of the bout between the two, which will take place this Friday at a Top Rank evening from the Save Mart Arena in Fresno, United States, will take a decisive step forward to ensure his access to a world championship when the belts are left without an owner.

For this reason, although Ramírez’s ring cut was not optimal against the former champion and Pedraza could connect sharp hands if he shows the same reflexes and precision as in his last three fights (he comes of beating the prospect Julian Rodríguez), the offensive constancy of «Jaguar», his greater resistance and his power can allow him to obtain victory either by decision or by wearing down the visitor. That said, those who underestimate Pedraza are wrong, because if he offers his best version, a proper game plan and executes it perfectly, he could generate serious tactical complications, especially if Ramírez cannot pressure him hard enough.
