El combate estelar de la velada de ShoBox: The New Generation terminó con la victoria unánime (98-92 y doble 97-93) del peso ligero Jamaine Ortiz 15(8KO)-0-1 sobre Nahir Albright 14(7KO)-2, siendo este uno de los dos mayores triunfos de su carrera hasta la fecha. Y es que lo logró en un evento televisado a amplias audiencias y ante un boxeador capaz y que venía de su victoria más destacada, por lo que, sumándose además el título menor que capturó, Ortiz no está ya lejos de los rankings oficiales y a continuación podrá asentarse en los tests a diez asaltos para prepararse para pugnas decisivas en la categoría.
En cuanto al combate coestelar, éste dejó una gran controversia, puesto que casi todos los observadores vieron a Paul Kroll 9(6KO)-0-1 perder su encuentro del peso superwélter contra Marquis Taylor 12(1KO)-1-1, si bien los jueces dieron un empate con dispares cartulinas: 77-75, 72-80 y 76-76. Así, aunque Kroll mantuvo su invicto, su prestigio no mejoró precisamente, algo que sí logró un Taylor que superó las expectativas y demostró su potencial.
En cuanto al evento de Thompson Boxing, la revancha del peso pluma entre Isaac Zárate 16(2KO)-6(1)-4 y Horacio García 35(25KO)-5-1 se saldó con una victoria del segundo de ambos, que con una decisión mayoritaria (80-72, 79-73 y 76-76) se desquitó de su anterior derrota y regresó a la actividad a lo grande tras ni más ni menos que tres años y medio parado. La cartelera de MTK Global de esta semana finalmente no contó con retransmisión por YouTube, cosa que probablemente se debió a lo mal emparejados que estaban los combates que terminaron componiéndola. Por ejemplo, en el principal el imbatido peso superwélter Jack Rafferty 18(10KO)-0, que está a la espera de pugnar por un título de ámbito nacional o regional, sólo necesitó tres rounds para superar su rodaje contra Evgenii Vazem 9(4KO)-23(6).
También en Reino Unido, el peso crucero David Jamieson 8(5KO)-1 se anotó quizás su triunfo más importante ante el sueco-azerí Samo Jangirov 7(1KO)-3-1, a quien batió por decisión unánime (doble 98-92 y un 97-93). Jamieson debería aprovechar este éxito y el bagaje extraído del combate para intentar buscar una pugna con sentido y trascendencia en las Islas Británicas y olvidarse de seguir pagando por cinturones de organismos no reconocidos que ni poseen valor ni son útiles.

Pese a que cierto sector de los aficionados todavía albergaba muchas esperanzas sobre el combate del peso wélter entre Kell Brook y Amir Khan, el choque fue un vapuleo de un solo lado. Tras seis asaltos de castigo de Brook sobre un Khan estremecido por cada golpe que le llegaba, el combate terminó en un KOT. En el respaldo, Natasha Jonas se coronó campeona mundial WBO superwélter batiendo a Chris Namús y el bronce olímpico Frazer Clarke debutó como profesional con una victoria en el primer asalto.

Cambiando de evento y pasando a la interesante velada Rusa de RCC Boxing, en su choque estelar Zaur Abdullaev tuvo paciencia y, tras una desfavorable primera mitad, remontó su combate contra el excampeón mundial Jorge Linares, a quien batió por KOT en el último round de una eliminatoria WBC del peso ligero.

También fue una eliminatoria, en este caso WBA y del peso superpluma, el duelo que sostuvieron Mark Urvanov y Ángel Rodríguez, pelea que terminó con una controvertida victoria dividida de Rodríguez. Por otro lado, el destacado boxeador amateur Ivan Kozlovsky mostró su calidad técnica derrotando a Zoravor Petrosyan.

En el respaldo del Abdullaev-Linares tuvieron lugar además el triunfo en dos asaltos del prospecto semipesado Georgy Kushitashvili sobre Olarewaju Segun, la victoria en el quinto round del peso pesado Georgy Yunovidov ante ante Leandro Daniel Robutti y el KOT de Vildan Minasov sobre Erzhan Turgumbekov.

El evento se abrió con otros tres combates: la victoria de Vadim Tukov tras levantarse de la lona contra Joel Julio y los triunfos también a los puntos de Mikalai Vesialou y Alexander Dorofeev ante, respectivamente, Evgeny Terentiev y Yury Bykhautsou.

Pasando a la velada de DAZN, en el choque principal el peso medio Jaime Munguía no pareció estar en las mejores condiciones tras sus problemas en el pesaje, pero aun así le bastó para terminar en el tercer round con un D’Mitrius Ballard muy por debajo del nivel del top 15.

En el respaldo se produjeron dos peleas muy mal emparejadas en las que William Zepeda y Rafael Espinoza terminaron en tres y un asalto con, respectivamente, Luis Ángel Viedas y Alie Laurel. Estos combates contrastaron con el buen duelo que sostuvieron el invicto Diego Torres y el bravo Jonathan Escobedo, pugna terminada con victoria del primero por decisión.

Una vez más el peso pesado invicto Arslanbek Makhmudov venció antes del límite, manteniendo su 100% de knockouts. En esta ocasión su víctima fue Mariusz Wach, que puso esfuerzo y que tuvo buenos momentos en el comienzo pero que terminó padeciendo su primer knockdown y su derrota más rápida hasta la fecha.

Hablando del peso pesado, aunque el choque Zhan Kossobutskiy vs. Johann Duhaupas fue cancelado, sí se produjo el combate entre el olímpico José Larduet 8(7KO)-0 y el invicto Dusan Veletić 5(3KO)-1(1)-1, terminando el encuentro con una victoria por abandono en el séptimo asalto de Larduet. En cuanto al último evento destacado del sábado, el enfrentamiento entre exretadores mundiales del peso crucero terminó con derrota unánime (96-94, 97-93 y 98-92) de Nikodem Jezewski 20(9KO)-2(1)-1 ante Arthur Mann 18(9KO)-2(2), que sumó una meritoria victoria como visitante. Aun así, Mann se ha quedado muy corto en los dos combates más exigentes de su carrera (Briedis y Lerena), por lo que deberá sopesar bien su siguiente paso adelante si no quiere perder el impulso adquirido ante Jezewski.
En este mismo cartel el peso supermedio cubano Osleys Iglesias 5(5KO)-0 siguió mostrando su pegada derrotando en sólo un asalto a Robert Racz 25(22KO)-3(1). Así, no habiendo pasado todavía del segundo round como profesional, Iglesias necesita ya tests ante oponentes de mayor nivel.

-En la revancha, el campeón de Argentina del peso superpluma Kevin Leonel Acevedo 21(6KO)-4(1)-3 volvió a derrotar a Javier Herrera 17(8KO)-6-1, en esta ocasión por decisión mayoritaria (99-93, 97-93 y 95-95), de modo que retuvo su corona y logró un impulso a su moral tras una inesperada derrota por KO.
-El peso supermedio Demond Nicholson 25(21KO)-4(2)-1 consiguió su mayor triunfo desde su derrota por decisión ante Edgar Berlanga batiendo por KO en el quinto round a Gabriel Pham 15(8KO)-3(2), pareciendo que no debería tardar en ser llamado para enfrentarse a un púgil con aspiraciones que quiera una prueba ante un boxeador con experiencia y pegada.
-El vacante cinturón de campeón de Sudamérica del peso superwélter fue recuperado por Adrián Marcelo Sasso 18(9KO)-3, que batió por KOT en el sexto episodio a Nicolás David Verón 8(3KO)-8(2)-1, siendo este su segundo triunfo consecutivo en un intervalo de tiempo de sólo tres meses.

The main event of the ShoBox: The New Generation evening ended with the unanimous decision victory (98-92 and double 97-93) of lightweight Jamaine Ortiz 15(8KO)-0-1 over Nahir Albright 14(7KO)-2, one of the two biggest wins of his career to date. He obtained it in a card televised and against a capable boxer who was coming of his most outstanding victory, so, adding also the minor title he captured, Ortiz is not far from the official rankings and now could settle into the ten-round tests to prepare for decisive fights in the division.
As for the co-main event, it ended with a great controversy, since almost all observers saw Paul Kroll 9(6KO)-0-1 lose his super welterweight match against Marquis Taylor 12(1KO)-1-1, but the decision was a draw: 77-75, 72-80 and 76-76. Thus, although Kroll maintained his unbeaten record, his prestige did not improve, something that Taylor did achieve, as he exceeded expectations and demonstrated his potential.
As for the Thompson Boxing bill, the featherweight rematch between Isaac Zárate 16(2KO)-6(1)-4 and Horacio García 35(25KO)-5-1 ended with a victory for the latter, whom with a majority decision (80-72, 79-73 and 76-76) took revenge for his previous defeat and returned to the ring in a big way after three and a half years of inactivity. This week’s MTK Global fight night was not streamed on YouTube, which was likely due to how poorly matched the bouts were. For example, in the main fight, the unbeaten super welterweight Jack Rafferty 18(10KO)-0, who is waiting to fight for a national or regional title, only needed three rounds to overcome his tune-up against Evgenii Vazem 9(4KO)-23(6).
Also in the United Kingdom, the cruiserweight David Jamieson 8(5KO)-1 scored perhaps his most important victory against the Swedish-Azeri Samo Jangirov 7 (1KO) -3-1, whom he beat by unanimous decision (double 98-92 and a 97-93). Jamieson should take advantage of this success, and the experience he got from it, to try to reach a meaningful and transcendent fight in the British Isles and forget about continuing to pay for belts from unrecognized organizations that neither have value nor are useful.
Saturday February 19
Although some fans still had high hopes for the welterweight bout between Kell Brook and Amir Khan, the clash was a one-sided thrashing. After six rounds of punishing from Brook over Khan, who staggered by almost every punch, the fight ended in a TKO. In the support, Natasha Jonas was crowned WBO super welterweight world champion by beating Chris Namús and Olympic bronze medalist Frazer Clarke made his professional debut with a victory in the first round. Moving on to the interesting Russian evening of RCC Boxing, in the main clash Zaur Abdullaev had patience and, after an unfavorable first half, he beat by TKO in the last round former world champion Jorge Linares in a WBC lightweight eliminator. Read more following this link.
It was also an eliminator, in this case in the WBA and at super featherweight, the duel between Mark Urvanov and Ángel Rodríguez, fight that ended with a controversial split decision victory for Rodríguez. In the support there were two very poorly matched fights in which William Zepeda and Rafael Espinoza finished in three and one round, respectively, Luis Ángel Viedas and Alie Laurel. Although the Zhan Kossobutskiy vs. Johann Duhaupas match was canceled, the fight between Olympic José Larduet 8(7KO)-0 and the undefeated Dusan Veletić 5(3KO)-1(1)-1 did take place, ending with a victory in the seventh round for Larduet. As for the last highlighted event on Saturday, the confrontation between former world cruiserweight challengers ended with a unanimous decision defeat (96-94, 97-93 and 98-92) of Nikodem Jezewski 20(9KO)-2(1)-1 against Arthur Mann 18(9KO)-2(2), who achieved a meritorious victory as a visitor. Still, Mann has fallen far short in the two most demanding bouts of his career (Briedis and Lerena), so he’ll have to think carefully about his next step forward if he doesn’t want to lose the momentum he gained against Jezewski.
In this same card, Cuban super middleweight Osleys Iglesias 5(5KO)-0 continued to show his punch power, defeating Robert Racz 25 (22KO)-3(1) in just one round. Thus, having not yet passed the second round in his pro career, Iglesias needs tests against higher level opponents.

-In the rematch, Argentine super featherweight champion Kevin Leonel Acevedo 21(6KO)-4(1)-3 defeated again Javier Herrera 17(8KO)-6-1, this time by majority decision (99- 93, 97-93 and 95-95), so he retained his belt and got a boost to his morale after an unexpected KO loss.
-Super middleweight Demond Nicholson 25(21KO)-4(2)-1 got his biggest win since his decision loss to Edgar Berlanga beating Gabriel Pham 15(8KO)-3(2) by KO in the fifth round. It shouldn’t take long for him to be called to face a fighter with aspirations who wants a test against an experienced boxer with punching power.
-The vacant South American super welterweight champion title was recovered by Adrián Marcelo Sasso 18(9KO)-3, who beat Nicolás David Verón by TKO in the sixth episode 8(3KO)-8(2)-1, this being his second consecutive victory in a time frame of only three months.
