Aunque tuvo que trabajar duro para lograr el triunfo, el ruso Alexey Mazur 9(5KO)-0 venció por decisión unánime de los jueces al competente argentino Carlos Daniel “El Zorrito” Córdoba 16(4KO)-10(2), logrando experiencia de calidad y una de sus dos mayores victorias. No obstante, el tardío debut en el boxeo profesional de Mazur parece un factor muy preocupante para sus intereses. Por su parte, el peso pesado Sergey Kuzmin 19(14KO)-2 cumplió con lo esperado y venció antes del límite al mexicano Germán García 8(8KO)-6(3), en concreto en el octavo asalto, poniendo fin así a una inactividad de diez meses.
En cuanto al exretador mundial japonés Akihiro Kondo 36(21KO)-11(1)-2, éste a duras penas logró un triunfo por decisión unánime (triple 77-75) ante el mexicano José Manuel García 16(15KO)-2-1, aunque siguió alejándose de su derrota ante Nagata y a finales de año podría alcanzar una pelea relevante en el circuito de su país.

De los favoritos en los cuatro principales combates de la velada de Wasserman tres de ellos vencieron convincentemente y se emplazaron a pasos adelante, pero uno se vio sorprendido y fue derrotado contra pronóstico. Éste fue el peso supergallo Lee McGregor 12(9KO)-1(1)-1, boxeador que en el pasado no muy lejano fue considerado un insigne prospecto pero que ha ido viendo empeorado su rendimiento hasta el punto de que finalmente (y aunque algunos cuestionaron el veredicto) perdió su invicto al ser superado por el mexicano Erick Robles 14(9KO)-1(1). Las tarjetas fueron de doble 113-115 y un 113-116. Así, McGregor recibió una seria advertencia sobre la necesidad de un cambio a la vez que Robles abrió ventanas a buenas oportunidades.
En cuanto a los otros tres choques, el prometedor peso pluma kazajo Sultan Zaurbek 15(11KO)-0 sólo necesitó tres rounds para batir al español John Carter 15(7KO)-1(1)-1, el peso superligero británico Harlem Eubank 18(7KO)-0 venció en el sexto round a su compatriota Ishmael Ellis 14(0KO)-7(3) y el peso pluma británico Isaac Lowe 23(7KO)-2(2)-3 derrotó al español Jonathan Santana 9(1KO)-6(2)-1 en el quinto episodio.
Cambiando de evento, el exaspirante mundial del peso mosca David Jiménez 13(10KO)-1 regresó a la senda del triunfo e hizo toda una declaración de intenciones venciendo por abandono en el séptimo asalto al duro mexicano Rosendo Guarneros 20(10KO)-6(2)-2, que no había perdido por detención desde su debut y que ha ofrecido múltiples actuaciones muy meritorias. Así, parece que el equipo de Jiménez debería intentar asegurarle una pelea de calibre cuanto antes para aprovechar el buen momento por el que pasa.
Respecto a la última velada de Thompson Boxing, el peso superpluma George Acosta 15(2KO)-1 llevó a nueve su racha de victorias forzando el abandono en el quinto asalto de Edy Valencia 20(7KO)-12(1)-6, por lo que concluyó su etapa con la citada promotora de buena manera para intentar favorecer su fichaje con otra compañía. Con todo, desafortunadamente hay que lamentar que Valencia sufrió serios daños que le han llevado a ingresar en un hospital con preocupante pronóstico.
Sábado 22 de julio
Otra semana más, los poderes en la sombra del boxeo encontraron la manera de seguir destruyendo la poquísima credibilidad que le queda al deporte, ya que el excampeón australiano George Kambosos Jr. 21(10KO)-1 se hizo con una muy polémica victoria ante el británico Maxi Hughes 26(5KO)-6(2)-2. A pesar de que la absoluta mayoría de observadores vieron ganar a Hughes, los jueces le dieron el triunfo a Kambosos por decisión mayoritaria con tarjetas de 114-114, 115-113 y un 117-111 que es una puntuación tan sumamente corrupta que parece imposible que no estuviese prefijada antes del inicio del combate.
De ese modo, Hughes recibió un revés que cortó su excelente racha y Kambosos se mantuvo al alcance de un gran combate. De hecho, parece que Top Rank planea emparejarlo contra Shakur Stevenson a continuación…
Respecto al respaldo, el plata olímpico estadounidense Keyshawn Davis 9(6KO)-0 siguió escalando en los rankings controlando y derribando al belga Francesco Patera 28(10KO)-4, que perdió por amplísima decisión unánime (100-89, 100-89 y 99-90), y el peso wélter Giovani Santillán 31(16KO)-0 se hizo con otro intrascendente triunfo unánime (98-92, 97-93, 97-92), esta vez sobre el ecuatoriano Erick Boné 27(14KO)-7(1).
Aunque el combate entre Donnie Nietes y Muhammad Waseem terminó aplazado por problemas con el visado del segundo, la velada de Dubái siguió adelante, y en ella el exaspirante mundial británico James Dickens 32(12KO)-5(4) fue noqueado en el décimo asalto por el argentino Héctor Andrés Sosa 16(9KO)-2, que dio un muy buen impulso a su carrera y se ganó una muy interesante oportunidad. Por lo demás, los favoritos vencieron antes del límite sus rodajes: el peso pluma ucraniano Arnold Khegai 20(12KO)-1-1 batió por KOT en el cuarto round el nicaragüense Freddy Lainez 17(12KO)-4(2), mismo número de asaltos que necesitó el peso superligero ruso Movladdin Biyarslanov 13(11KO)-0 para derrotar al venezolano Joniker Tovar 21(16KO)-1(1)-1.
Estos otros resultados también se desarrollaron el sábado:
-El choque del peso superpluma entre Mark Urvanov 23(10KO)-3-2 y Murad Aliev 6(2KO)-0-2 terminó en un empate (96-94, 94-96 y 94-94) que afianza seriamente la proyección de un Aliev que encadena varias buenas actuaciones. Por otro lado, el prosepecto del peso superligero Oganes Ustyan 11(3KO)-1 sufrió su primera derrota con una decisión de los jueces en una dura pugna ante un más fogueado Georgii Chelokhsaev 22(14KO)-2-1 y el peso superpluma Aznaur Kalsynov 4(0KO)-1-3 fue vencido por decisión a manos de Armen Ataev 8(4KO)-5(1)-1.
-El peso medio uruguayo Amilcar Vidal Jr. 17(13KO)-1(1) sumó una necesaria victoria para recuperar moral batiendo en el séptimo round al venezolano Domicio Rondón 17(11KO)-6(3), mientras que el olímpico argentino Mirco Cuello 12(11KO)-0 hizo evidente que necesita oposición de más nivel con urgencia arrollando en un round a Antonio Guzmán 23(19KO)-4(4).
-El noqueador del peso superwélter Serhii Bohachuk 23(23KO)-1(1) venció en un asalto a Patrick Allotey 42(32KO)-5(4) y en un futuro próximo podría recibir la orden de enfrentarse a Charles Conwell o Jesús Ramos en una eliminatoria WBC. Por su parte, el prospecto del peso pluma Omar Cande 13(10KO)-0-1 superó satisfactoriamente su prueba contra Roberto Meza 15(8KO)-4(1)-1 asestándole en el sexto round su primera derrota antes del límite.

Although he had to work hard to achieve victory, Russian Alexey Mazur 9(5KO)-0 defeated competent Argentinian Carlos Daniel «El Zorrito» Córdoba 16(4KO)-10(2) by unanimous decision, acquiring quality experience and scoring one of his two biggest victories. However, Mazur’s late professional debut seems a very worrying factor for his interests. For his part, heavyweight Sergey Kuzmin 19(14KO)-2 did as expected and stopped Mexican Germán García 8(8KO)-6(3) in the eighth round, thus ending a ten-month inactivity.
As for former world challenger Akihiro Kondo 36(21KO)-11(1)-2, he barely managed to win by unanimous decision (three 77-75) against Mexican José Manuel García 16(15KO)-2-1, although he continued to move away from his defeat against Nagata and at the end of the year he could reach a relevant fight in his country.

Three of the four favorites in the main bouts of Wasserman’s evening won convincingly and aimed for bigger objectives, but the remaining one was upset. This was super bantamweight Lee McGregor 12(9KO)-1(1)-1, a boxer who in the not too distant past was considered a very good prospect but whose performance has dropped to the point that finally (and although some questioned the verdict) he lost his undefeated record against Mexican Erick Robles 14(9KO)-1(1). The cards were two 113-115 and one 113-116. Thus, McGregor received a serious warning about the need for a change at the same time that Robles opened doors to good opportunities.
As for the other three clashes, promising Kazakh featherweight Sultan Zaurbek 15(11KO)-0 only needed three rounds to defeat Spanish John Carter 15(7KO)-1(1)-1, British super lightweight Harlem Eubank 18(7KO)-0 defeated his compatriot Ishmael Ellis 14(0KO)-7(3) in the sixth round and British featherweight Isaac Lowe 23(7KO)-2(2)-3 defeated Spaniard Jonathan Santana 9(1KO)-6(2)-1 in the fifth round.
Moving on to another event, former world flyweight title challenger David Jiménez 13(10KO)-1 returned to winning ways and made quite a statement by stopping in the seventh round tough Mexican Rosendo Guarneros 20(10KO)-6(2)-2, who had not lost by stoppage since his debut and has put on multiple highly commendable performances. Thus, it seems that Jiménez’s team should try to secure him an important fight as soon as possible to take advantage of the good moment he is going through.
Regarding Thompson Boxing’s last evening, super featherweight George Acosta 15(2KO)-1 brought his winning streak to nine stopping in the fifth round Edy Valencia 20(7KO)-12(1)-6, so he concluded his stage with the aforementioned company in a good way to try to favor his signing with another promoter. However, unfortunately it must be regretted that Valencia suffered severe damage that have led him to be admitted to a hospital with a worrying prognosis.

For yet another week, boxing’s powers in the shadows found a way to continue destroying what little credibility the sport has left, as Australian former champion George Kambosos Jr. 21(10KO)-1 claimed a highly controversial victory over British Maxi Hughes 26(5KO)-6(2)-2. Despite the fact that the absolute majority of observers saw Hughes win, the judges gave Kambosos the victory by majority decision with scores of 114-114, 115-113 and 117-111, the last of which is so corrupted that it seems impossible that it was not set before the start of the fight.
Thus, Hughes suffered a setback that ended his excellent streak and Kambosos stayed within reach of a big fight. In fact, it looks like Top Rank plans to match him against Shakur Stevenson next…
Regarding the support, American Olympic silver medalist Keyshawn Davis 9(6KO)-0 continued to climb the rankings by dominating and knocking down Belgian Francesco Patera 28(10KO)-4, who lost by unanimous decision (100-89, 100-89 and 99-90), and welterweight Giovani Santillán 31(16KO)-0 obtained another inconsequential unanimous decision victory (98-92, 97-93, 97-92), this time over Ecuadorian Erick Boné 27(14KO)-7(1).
Although the fight between Donnie Nietes and Muhammad Waseem ended up being postponed due to visa issues suffered by the latter, the Dubai card went ahead, and in it British former world challenger James Dickens 32(12KO)-5(4) was knocked out in the tenth round by Argentinian Héctor Andrés Sosa 16(9KO)-2, who gave his career an important boost and earned a good opportunity. For the rest, the favorites won their stay-busy bouts by stoppage: Ukrainian featherweight Arnold Khegai 20(12KO)-1-1 beat by fourth-round TKO Nicaraguan Freddy Lainez 17(12KO)-4(2), the same number of rounds that Russian super lightweight Movladdin Biyarslanov 13(11KO)-0 needed to defeat Venezuelan Joniker Tovar 21(16KO)-1(1)-1.

-The super featherweight clash between Mark Urvanov 23(10KO)-3-2 and Murad Aliev 6(2KO)-0-2 ended in a draw (96-94, 94-96 and 94-94) that seriously strengthens the projection of Aliev, who has had several consecutive good performances. For his part, featherweight prospect Omar Cande 13(10KO)-0-1 passed his test against Roberto Meza 15(8KO)-4(1)-1 dealing him his first stoppage defeat in the sixth round.
