El semifondo de la cartelera de ProBox de la pasada noche fue un entretenido combate del peso superwélter en el que el estadounidense Lázaro Lorenzana 11(8KO)-0 se impuso por decisión dividida al mexicano Alexis Ríos 4(1KO)-3-1. Aunque dos de los jueces dieron lógicas cartulinas de 77-75 a favor de Lorenzana, el restante dio un 79-73 absolutamente ridículo a favor de Ríos.
El combate se inició en la distancia media-larga y en el centro del ring, donde Lorenzana tuvo más éxito con su directo de derecha y su gancho zurdo. Por ello, posteriormente Ríos intentó aumentar la presión y llevar a Lorenzana hacia las cuerdas, algo que este último pareció dispuesto a aceptar, conectando combinaciones de ganchos claras de espaldas al ensogado entre útiles acciones defensivas. De todos modos, Ríos no se rindió y siguió arrojando ofensivas, produciéndose una buena cantidad de intercambios en los que ambos se alcanzaron claramente y terminaron desgastados. Con todo, aunque Ríos tuvo sus momentos, tras el final pareció que en general Lorenzana había impactado los golpes más nítidos y significativos, se había llevado la mayoría de rounds y había merecido el triunfo.
Antes de dicho encuentro se produjo una pugna del peso supergallo entre los jovencísimos mexicanos Óscar Hernández 5(2KO)-1(1) y Joseph Morales 2(1KO)-2-1. De nuevo, dos jueces hicieron bien su trabajo con tarjetas de 59-55 y 58-56 para Hernández, si bien uno dio un 58-56 para Morales difícil de justificar.
Morales era tenaz y estaba dispuesto a luchar por el triunfo, sacando un considerable número de puños constantemente, pero Hernández tiene una ventaja en técnica y habilidad que se dejó notar a través de calmados bloqueos, sutiles esquivas y, sobre todo, una precisa y astuta selección de golpes a la contra. Entre estos destacó su gancho zurdo abajo, que a menudo conectaba tras bloquear derechas, pero también impactó certeros uppercuts diestros, derechas directas, etc. Con el paso de los asaltos, la eficacia de Hernández no sólo se mantuvo sino que aumentó y pudo presionar un tanto a su rival, si bien Morales no se dejó abrumar, reaccionó y hasta el final continuó lanzando golpes tratando de igualar por volumen el trabajo de su contrincante.
La cartelera se abrió con un nuevo triunfo para el invicto peso ligero César Ortiz 6(5KO)-0, que venció por amplísima decisión unánime (60-54, 60-54, 60-54) a Antonio González 3(1KO)-6(2).
Con insistentes combinaciones gancho zurdo abajo-directo diestro arriba, un buen manejo de la mano adelantada en variadas trayectorias y oportunos pasos atrás, Ortiz se puso claramente por delante. González intentó aguantar y lanzar contraofensivas, pero tuvo menos cadencia de golpes, y mucho menos acierto, y se tuvo que centrar en intentar lidiar con las ofensivas y el castigo cerrándose y tratando de esquivar. Así, González consiguió evitar padecer daños serios, pero evidentemente no pudo impedir que Ortiz, que mantuvo su alto ritmo combativo, lograse una victoria indiscutiblemente clara.

The co-feature bout of last night’s ProBox card was an entertaining super welterweight match in which American Lázaro Lorenzana 11(8KO)-0 defeated Mexican Alexis Ríos 4(1KO)-3-1 by split decision. Although two of the judges’ cards were logical, both giving 77-75 in favor of Lorenzana, the rest was an absolutely ridiculous 79-73 in favor of Ríos.
The clash began at medium-long range and in the center of the ring, where Lorenzana had more success with his straight right hand and left hook. For this reason, Ríos later tried to increase the pressure and take Lorenzana to the ropes, something that the latter seemed willing to accept, connecting clear hook combinations between useful defensive actions. Still, Ríos didn’t give up and kept throwing attacks, so there was a considerable number of good exchanges in which both men clearly hit each other and ended up worn down. However, although Ríos had his moments, after the finish it seemed that overall Lorenzana had landed the most significant blows, had won most of the rounds and deserved the win.
Before said match, there was a super bantamweight fight between the very young Mexicans Óscar Hernández 5(2KO)-1(1) and Joseph Morales 2(1KO)-2-1. Again, two judges did their job well with scores of 59-55 and 58-56 for Hernández, although one gave a 58-56 for Morales that is difficult to justify.
Morales was tenacious and willing to fight for the win, constantly throwing a good amount of punches, but Hernández has an advantage in technique and skill that showed through calm blocks, subtle dodges and, above all, a precise and astute selection of counterpunches. Among these highlighted his left hook down, which he often landed after blocking right hands, but he also connected well-aimed right uppercuts, straight right hands, etc. As the rounds went by, Hernández not only maintained his efficiency, but he increased it, and was able to put some pressure, although Morales did not let himself be overwhelmed, reacted and continued throwing punches until the end trying to compensate his opponent’s success with work rate.
The televised card opened with a new victory for undefeated lightweight César Ortiz 6(5KO)-0, who beat Antonio González 3(1KO)-6(2) by wide unanimous decision (60-54, 60-54, 60-54).
With insistent left hook down-straight right up combinations, a good use of his lead hand in varied angles and opportune steps back, Ortiz clearly took the lead. González tried to resist and launch counterattacks, but he had less punch rate, and much less accuracy, and had to focus on trying to deal with the offensives and punishment by closing his guard and trying to dodge. Thus, González managed to avoid suffering serious damage, but evidently he could not prevent Ortiz (who maintained his high pace) from achieving an indisputably clear victory.
