Quizás el enfrentamiento más interesante que se desarrollará el viernes será la revancha entre los peso pluma italianos Francesco Grandelli 16(3KO)-1-2 y Mauro Forte 17(7KO)-0-2, duelo con el vacante título europeo del peso pluma en juego que encabezará una velada de OPI desde Tívoli, Italia, emitida por ESPN+ y otras ramas de esa cadena. El primer combate estuvo muy disputado y terminó en un empate que, sin ser imposible de justificar, quizás no fue el resultado más adecuado, pareciendo que Grandelli hizo más que su rival. En cualquier caso, el segundo duelo entre ambos se presenta como muy abierto, estando en manos de cada uno de ellos intentar imponer sus mayores virtudes: la cadencia y la fluidez de Grandelli y la contundencia a una sola mano de Forte.
En el respaldo, la campeona de Europa del peso supermosca Stephanie Silva 7(0KO)-0 afrontará una defensa voluntaria para expandir su bagaje ante la francesa, excampeona continental del peso gallo, Mailys Gangloff 8(2KO)-3, y la local Simona Salvatori 8(2KO)-0 y la francesa Johanna Wanyou 8(2KO)-0 combatirán por el vacante cinto europeo del peso gallo.
Estos no serán los únicos campeonatos de Europa del día, puesto que, en el Pabellón Ginés Alenda de San Vicente del Raspeig, España, el español Juan Félix “El Mago” Gómez 12(2KO)-0 y el rumano-italiano Catalin Ionescu 13(4KO)-2(1)-1 se enfrentarán por el vacante título del peso superpluma. Teniendo en cuenta el rendimiento tan sólido que está teniendo Gómez y que boxeará como local ante un púgil que en su día pareció que no iba a pasar del nivel nacional, es lógico verle como favorito. Sin embargo, Ionescu viene de mostrar una increíblemente aumentada potencia aplastando en dos rounds a Nicola Henchiri (al que Gómez venció por decisión), por lo que es evidente que tiene peligro y, cuanto menos, cuenta con la oportunidad del pegador.
Por otro lado, en el Magna Centre de Rotherham, Reino Unido, emitido por Fightzone, el campeón británico del peso mosca Tommy Frank 15(3KO)-2(1)-1 expondrá su corona contra el exretador mundial Jay Harris 19(10KO)-3(2) es un interesante y bien emparejado combate. Estos son dos púgiles que vienen de una considerable inactividad, que han sufrido dos derrotas ante mexicanos y que necesitan un triunfo significativo para recobrar impulso, precisamente lo que buscarán este viernes contra un oponente con garra y que es consciente de que no se puede permitir un nuevo fallo.
Por lo demás, el viernes tendrá estos otros combates:
-En el Palantenore de Padua, Italia, emitido por RaiSport 1, la italiana Silvia Bortot 11(3KO)-1(1)-1 y la francesa Flora Pili 6(1KO)-0, pugnarán por otro cinturón EBU, el vacante del peso superligero.
-En el pabellón deportivo de Mioveni, Rumania, el peso medio Flavius Biea 21(10KO)-1(1) afrontará uno de los combates más difíciles de su carrera ante el argentino Juan José Velasco 24(15KO)-3(3), que sólo ha sido derrotado por boxeadores como Regis Prograis, Mario Barrios y Elvis Rodríguez.
-En Cuernavaca, México, el olímpico venezolano Albert Ramírez 15(14KO)-0 buscará seguir sumando knockouts, y comparar su pegada a la de Diego Pacheco, enfrentándose en el peso semipesado al mexicano Ricardo Adrián Luna 25(16KO)-9(4)-2.
Sábado 6 de mayo
La cartelera que más miradas atraerá esta semana será la encabezada por el choque por el título indiscutido del peso supermedio entre Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez y John Ryder. En el respaldo se producirán un mundial WBC del peso mosca entre Julio César Martínez y Ronal Batista, un potencialmente entretenido choque del peso superligero entre Gabriel Gollaz y Steve Spark y una pelea del peso semipesado entre Oleksandr Gvzodyk y Ricards Bolotniks. Un poco antes del inicio de esa velada, Boxxer ofrecerá desde Reino Unido un evento encabezado por el debut con la compañía del peso semipesado invicto Joshua Buatsi enfrentándose a Pawel Stepien. Esta pugna estará acompañada, entre otras peleas, por el primer campeonato británico femenino de la historia entre Lauren Price y Kirstie Bavington y por las pugnas Sean McComb vs. Kaisee Benjamin y Tyler Denny vs. Macaulay McGowan. Continuando con el orden cronológico inverso, antes que el cartel de Boxxer se iniciará un evento de RCC Boxing en el que el peso superwélter Magomed Kurbanov pugnará contra Michel Soro y Evgeny Tishchenko se verá las caras con Yves Ngabu. Previa del evento siguiendo el link.
Finalmente, por número de combates mencionables, se puede destacar un cartel que se desarrollará en el Centro de Convenciones Vasco Núñez de Balboa de Bella Vista, Panamá. En ella, el 8º WBA del peso supergallo, el panameño Rafael Pedroza 14(11KO)-0 tratará de acercarse al top 5 venciendo al venezolano Yerny Betancourt 22(18KO)-1; el prospecto argentino del peso superligero Rubén Néstor Neri Múñoz 12(8KO)-0 afrontará una pelea de desarrollo ante Orlando Mosquera 11(2KO)-1-1; y el 11º WBA del peso supergallo, el colombiano Leonardo Carrillo 16(8KO)-0-1, afrontará uno de sus mayores retos hasta la fecha contra el invicto cubano Jorge De Jesús Romero 23(14KO)-0-1.
Al margen de lo mencionado, el sábado también se producirán estos otros combates:
-En el Caird Hall de Dundee, Reino Unido, el campeón de la Commonwealth del peso superwélter Louis Greene 15(9KO)-3(1) buscará retener su cinturón, y sumar un nuevo knockout, ante Paul Kean 16(2KO)-2(1), que recientemente sólo ha sido derrotado por Hamzah Sheeraz.
-En el Korakuen Hall de Tokio, Japón, el prometedor peso mínimo Goki Kobayashi 5(3KO)-0, top 15 en tres organismos, intentará mejorar su posicionamiento enfrentándose al joven e invicto filipino Roslan Eco 10(7KO)-0, mientras que el excampeón mundial Ryuya Yamanaka 18(6KO)-3(1) tratará de entrar en el ranking WBO peleando por un título menor contra Kosuke Ando 12(5KO)-3(2).
-En el Auditorio Municipal de Tijuana, México, el enrachado Víctor “Scarface” Reyes 22(14KO)-2-1 intentará lograr su 14º triunfo consecutivo. En esta ocasión peleará contra el duro Salvador “Peloncito” Juárez 17(4KO)-7-2, que llega de lograr varias meritorias victorias y quizás en el mejor momento de su carrera.
-En el Unisa Hall de Johannesburgo, Sudáfrica, el excampeón mundial, y aspirante obligatorio WBC del peso minimosca, Hekki Budler 34(10KO)-4(1) disputará una pelea de rodaje y preparación contra el encajador filipino Enrique Magsalin 8(1KO)-4-2.
-En el Entertainment and Sports Arena de Washington, Estados Unidos, se producirá un bien emparejado combate del peso pluma entre Sulaiman Segawa 14(5KO)-3(1)-1 y Misael López 14(5KO)-2(1).

Friday, May 5
Perhaps Friday’s most interesting matchup will be the rematch between Italian featherweights Francesco Grandelli 16(3KO)-1-2 and Mauro Forte 17(7KO)-0-2, fight with the vacant European featherweight title at stake that will headline an OPI evening from Tivoli, Italy, broadcast by ESPN+. The first fight was very contested and ended in a draw that, without being impossible to justify, was perhaps not the most fair result, as it seemed that Grandelli did more than his opponent. In any case, the second duel between the two does not have a clear favorite, and both of them should try to impose his greatest virtues: the output and fluidity of Grandelli and the one-hand power of Forte.
In the support, European super flyweight champion Stephanie Silva 7(0KO)-0 will face a voluntary defense to increase her experience against the French, former continental bantamweight champion, Mailys Gangloff 8(2KO)-3, and local Simona Salvatori 8(2KO)-0 and French Johanna Wanyou 8(2KO)-0 will fight for the vacant European bantamweight belt.
This will not be the only European championship of the day, since, in the Pabellón Ginés Alenda in San Vicente del Raspeig, Spain, the local fighter Juan Félix “El Mago” Gómez 12(2KO)-0 and the Romanian-Italian Catalin Ionescu 13 (4KO)-2(1)-1 will meet for the vacant super featherweight title. Taking into account the solid performance that Gómez is putting on and that he will box at home against a fighter who in the past seemed like he was not going to go beyond the national level, it is logical to see him as the favorite. However, Ionescu is coming off showing incredibly increased power by crushing Nicola Henchiri (whom Gómez defeated by decision) in two rounds, so it is clear that he is dangerous and, at the very least, has the puncher’s chance.
On the other hand, at the Magna Center in Rotherham, United Kingdom, broadcast by Fightzone, British flyweight champion Tommy Frank 15(3KO)-2(1)-1 will put on the line his crown against former world title challenger Jay Harris 19(10KO)-3(2) in an interesting and well matched bout. These are two fighters who are coming from a considerable inactivity, who have suffered two defeats against Mexican fighters and who need a significant win to regain momentum, precisely what they will look to achieve this Friday against an opponent with grit and who is aware that he cannot afford a new setback.
For the rest, Friday will have these other fights:

The card that will attract the most attention this week will be the one headlined by the clash for the undisputed super middleweight title between Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez and John Ryder. In the undercard, WBC flyweight champion Julio César Martínez will defend his title against Ronal Batista, Gabriel Gollaz and Steve Spark will clash in a potentially entertaining super lightweight bout and light heavyweight Oleksandr Gvzodyk will face Ricards Bolotniks. Finally, by number of mentionable fights, it is possible to highlight a bill that will take place at the Centro de Convenciones Vasco Núñez de Balboa in Bella Vista, Panama. In it, the WBA number 8 super bantamweight, Panamanian Rafael Pedroza 14(11KO)-0 will try to get closer to the top 5 by defeating Venezuelan Yerny Betancourt 22(18KO)-1; Argentine super lightweight prospect Rubén Néstor Neri Múñoz 12(8KO)-0 will face a development fight against Orlando Mosquera 11(2KO)-1-1; and WBA number 11 super bantamweight, Colombian Leonardo Carrillo 16 (8KO)-0-1, will face one of his biggest challenges to date against undefeated Cuban Jorge De Jesús Romero 23(14KO)-0-1.

-At the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan, the promising minimumweight Goki Kobayashi 5(3KO)-0, top 15 in three organizations, will try to improve his position by facing the young and undefeated Filipino Roslan Eco 10(7KO)-0, while former world champion Ryuya Yamanaka 18(6KO)-3(1) will try to break into the WBO rankings by fighting for a minor title against Kosuke Ando 12(5KO)-3(2).
-In the Auditorio Municipal of Tijuana, Mexico, Víctor “Scarface” Reyes 22 (14KO)-2-1 will try to achieve his fourteenth consecutive victory. On this occasion he will fight against the tough Salvador «Peloncito» Juárez 17(4KO)-7-2, who comes from scoring several meritorious victories and who perhaps is in the best moment of his career.
-At the Unisa Hall in Johannesburg, South Africa, former world champion, and WBC light flyweight mandatory challenger, Hekki Budler 34(10KO)-4(1) will have a stay-busy fight against Filipino boxer Enrique Magsalin 8(1KO)-4-2.
-At the Entertainment and Sports Arena in Washington, United States, Sulaiman Segawa 14(5KO)-3(1)-1 and Misael López 14(5KO)-2(1) will face each other in a well matched featherweight bout.
