El respaldo del Claressa Shields vs. Hanna Gabriels II será una velada de novatos

La primera defensa de Claressa Shields como campeona indiscutida del peso medio femenino tiene un interés superior al de la mayoría de peleas que ha disputado en su carrera. Y es que la estadounidense se enfrentará a la fuerte costarricense Hanna Gabriels, campeona mundial WBA del peso semipesado y WBC del peso pesado, además de exmonarca superwélter, que en el primer choque ante Shields (en junio de 2018) logró derribar en una ocasión a la invicta top libra por libra. De todos modos, Shields se levantó y terminó ganando por clara decisión unánime.
No obstante, más allá de los alicientes que pueda tener este combate para los fans, en el respaldo no habrá nada que esté al nivel de una gran velada. Al contrario, una vez más, un evento emitido por DAZN estará por debajo del nivel del cartel medio emitido por YouTube, algo que simplemente es un terrible sinsentido y que debería dar mucho que pensar a los directivos de la plataforma de streaming.
Las tres pugnas confirmadas que respaldarán al Shields-Gabriels II el 3 de junio en el Little Ceasars Arena de Detroit, Estados Unidos, serán tres combates de novatos entre Marlon Harrington y Gheith Karim (peso superwélter), Joshua James Pagan y Ronnell Burnett (peso superligero), y Da’Velle Smith y Kahydlian Woods (peso medio).
Evidentemente, para los buenos aficionados al boxeo, cualquier pelea puede llegar a resultar interesante y es una buena excusa para ver pugilismo, especialmente si está en cierto modo bien emparejada o cuenta con algún púgil con algo de proyección. Pero para un servicio de suscripción que aspira a dominar el mundo de los deportes y, en concreto el boxeo, el nivel de esta cartelera no es de ninguna manera el adecuado.
Algunos apuntan a que la promotora organizadora del evento Salita Promotions, simplemente no tiene una gran escuadra, pero hay que tener en cuenta que dicha compañía representa a boxeadores como los pesos pesado Otto Wallin y Jermaine Franklin, al destacado prospecto peso superligero Shohjahon Ergashev y a los clasificados mundiales del peso supermedio Vladimir Shishkin y Aslambek Idigov, entre otros, y perfectamente podría haber maquillado algo el evento dándole un rodaje a alguno uno de estos boxeadores.
Por ello, realmente lo que parece es que DAZN, en su afán por reducir gastos, habrá puesto sólo el dinero suficiente para cubrir la bolsa de Shields y a Salita le habrán quedado cuatro dólares para el respaldo, lo que evidencia una vez más que la estrategia de inversión de la compañía de streaming está llena de brechas y tiene muy poca visión de futuro, algo que debería ser preocupante para ella en un momento en el que el descontento de los suscriptores sigue en aumento.

Claressa Shields‘ first defense as undisputed female middleweight champion has more interest than most bouts she has fought in her career. The American boxer will face the strong Costa Rican Hanna Gabriels, WBA light heavyweight champion and WBC heavyweight titlist, as well as a former super welterweight monarch, who in the first clash against Shields (in June 2018) managed to knock down once the undefeated top pound-for-pound female fighter. Regardless, Shields got up and ended up winning by clear unanimous decision.
However, beyond the interest that this fight may have for the fans, in the undercard there will be nothing that is at the level of a big event. On the contrary, once again, an event broadcast by DAZN will be below the level of the average evening broadcast by YouTube, something that is simply a terrible nonsense that should give the executives of the streaming platform a lot to think about.
The three confirmed fights for the support of the Shields-Gabriels II evening on June 3 at Little Ceasars Arena in Detroit, USA, will be three rookie bouts between Marlon Harrington and Gheith Karim (super welterweight), Joshua James Pagan and Ronnell Burnett (super lightweight), and Da’Velle Smith and Kahydlian Woods (middleweight).
Obviously, for real boxing fans, any fight can be interesting and is a good excuse to watch boxing, especially if it is somewhat well matched or features a fighter with some projection. But for a subscription service that aspires to dominate the world of sports, and specifically boxing, the level of this card is by no means adequate.
Some point out that the company organizing the event, Salita Promotions, simply does not have a great squad. However it is necessary to keep in mind that the company represents boxers such as heavyweights Otto Wallin and Jermaine Franklin, standout super lightweight prospect Shohjahon Ergashev and world ranked super middleweights Vladimir Shishkin and Aslambek Idigov, among others, and could perfectly have improved the event by giving one of these boxers a stay-busy fight.
For this reason, it really seems that DAZN, in its desire to reduce expenses, has put up only enough money to cover Shields’ purse and Salita has had a few dollars left for the undercard, which shows once again that the streaming service’s investment strategy is very flawed and shortsighted, something that should be concerning to it at a time when subscriber discontent continues to increase.
