PBC confirma cartelera principal del evento Alberto Puello vs. Rolly Romero. Declaraciones de los boxeadores

El día 13 de mayo en el The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan de Las Vegas, Estados Unidos, el campeón mundial WBA del peso superligero Alberto Puello se enfrentará a Rolando Romero en el combate estelar de una velada de Premier Boxing Champions y Showtime. Esto ha sido ya confirmado oficialmente, junto al respaldo principal del evento, por PBC, que en su nota de prensa ha añadido declaraciones de los seis participantes en las pugnas televisadas.
En primer lugar, el dominicano Puello, que logró su cinturón con un muy controvertido triunfo sobre Batyr Akhmedov, afirmó:
“Estoy muy agradecido por esta oportunidad que tengo de defender mi título mundial en Showtime. Rolly ha peleado a nivel élite, así que estoy deseando ponerme a prueba y mostrar por qué soy el campeón. Confío en mis habilidades y voy con todo lo que tengo. Esta va a ser una de las mejores peleas del año, así que asegurate de sintonizar”.
Por su parte, Romero, que disputa su primer combate desde que fue noqueado por Gervonta Davis, fue mucho menos agresivo en su lenguaje que de costumbre:
“Estoy emocionado por convertirme en campeón mundial el 13 de mayo. Todo el mundo sabe lo que traigo al ring. Va a ser un espectáculo entretenido. Espero que Puello venga al 100%, porque estoy listo para mostrar que soy un boxeador de élite en la división”.
El combate coestelar será otro choque del peso superligero, en este caso entre el veterano exmonarca Rances Barthelemy y el joven Omar Juárez. El primero de ambos, que no boxea desde su derrota por KOT ante Gary Antuanne Russell, afirmó:
“Tengo muchas ganas de ofrecer un gran espectáculo contra un joven y hambriento peleador como Omar Juárez. Quiero darle las gracias a todo el mundo que me ha puesto en esta posición y ha hecho que este combate suceda. En este momento de mi carrera, se trata de construir mi legado, y eso significa conseguir un knockout el 13 de mayo. Mis manos van a volar cuanto suene esa campana”.
En cuanto a Juárez, en racha de tres triunfos, éste señaló:
“Esta es la mayor pelea de mi vida, y estoy agradecido a mi equipo por hacer que suceda. Rances trae una tremenda cantidad de experiencia al ring, así que sé que tengo que hacer los ajustes adecuados a medida que avanza la pelea. Sé que si gano este combate se continuarán abriendo grandes puertas. Así que creedme cuando digo que vengo a ganar y a ganar de forma impresionante”.
La cartelera principal se abrirá con una pugna también del peso superligero, siendo los contendientes el estadounidense Kenneth Sims Jr. y el arriba citado uzbeko Batyr Akhmedov. Este último dijo:
“Espero con ansias mi retorno al ring este mayo. Mi meta siempre ha sido ganar un título mundial y tengo fe en mí mismo. Los fans saben que siempre estoy en peleas emocionantes, y este combate va a ser más de lo mismo”.
Por último, Sims hizo referencia a la polémica derrota de Akhmedov y explicó que espera una dura pugna:
“Estoy realmente emocionado por este combate. Esto es lo que he estado pidiendo y sacará lo mejor de mí. Creo que Akhmedov ganó su último combate y debería ser campeón ahora mismo. No va a ser una tarea fácil, pero probaré que mi lugar está con los grandes nombres en la división de las 140 libras”.

On May 13, at The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, USA, WBA world super lightweight champion Alberto Puello will take on Rolando Romero in the main event of a Premier Boxing Champions and Showtime evening. This bout has already been officially confirmed, along with its main support, by PBC, which in its press release has added quotes from the six participants in the televised fights.
First of all, the Dominican Puello, who won his belt with a highly controversial victory over Batyr Akhmedov, said:
“I’m very grateful for the opportunity I have to defend my world title on SHOWTIME. ’Rolly’ has fought at the elite level, so I’m looking forward to testing myself and showing why I am the champion. I’m confident in my skills and I’m coming with everything I’ve got. This is going to be one of the best fights of the year, so make sure you tune in.”
For his part, Romero, who will face his first fight since he was knocked out by Gervonta Davis, was much less aggressive in his language than usual:
“I’m excited to become a world champion on May 13. Everyone knows what I bring to the ring. It’s gonna be an entertaining show. I hope Puello comes in 100%, because I ready to show that I’m an elite fighter in this division.”
The co-main event will be another super lightweight clash, in this case between the veteran former titlist Rances Barthelemy and the young Omar Juárez. The former, who has not boxed since his TKO defeat against Gary Antuanne Russell, said:
“I’m looking forward to putting on a good show against a young, hungry fighter like Omar Juarez. I want to thank everyone who put me in this position and made this fight happen. At this stage in my career, it’s about building my legacy, and that means getting a knockout on May 13. My hands will be flying when that bell rings.”
As for Juárez, on a three-win streak, he said:
“This is the biggest fight of my life and I’m grateful to my team for making it happen. Rances brings a tremendous amount of experience to the ring, so I know that I have to make the proper adjustments as this fight goes on. I know if I win this fight, big doors will continue to open for me. So believe me when I say that I’m coming to win and win impressively.”
The main card will open with one more super lightweight matchup, the contenders being the American Kenneth Sims Jr. and the aforementioned Uzbek Batyr Akhmedov. The latter said:
“I’m looking forward to my return to the ring this May. My goal has always been to win a world championship and I have faith in myself. The fans know that I’m always in exciting fights, and this matchup is going to be more of the same.”
Lastly, Sims alluded to Akhmedov’s controversial defeat and explained that he expects a tough fight:
“I’m really excited about this fight. This is what I’ve been asking for and will bring the best out in me. I believe that Akhmedov won his last fight and should be champion right now. This is not gonna be an easy task, but I will prove that I belong with the big names in the 140-pound division.”
