Después de dos empates entre Iljaz Ahmed 10(1KO)-2-3 y Quaise Khademi, se esperaba que al fin estos dos púgiles cerrasen su competencia de una vez por todas el 3 de marzo y que el cinturón británico supermosca dejase de estar vacante. Y es que no ha tenido dueño desde que Sunny Edwards lo abandonó en 2020. Con todo, Khademi tuvo que ser sustituido por Marcel Braithwaite 14(0KO)-3-1 y la fecha del campeonato pasó a este viernes, buscando tanto este último como Ahmed un triunfo que cambiase sus carreras.
Pero, ¿a qué no sabéis cómo terminó el Ahmed-Braithwaite? De nuevo en empate, siendo las puntuaciones de razonable 114-114, 114-115 a favor de Braithwaite y un increíble 117-111 a favor de Ahmed. Así que habrá que esperar unos cuantos meses más, como mínimo, para ver coronado a un nuevo monarca británico.
El plan de Ahmed pasaba por acortar los espacios y trabajar en corta con sus combinaciones de curvos, pero Braithwaite no estaba dispuesto a ceder terreno. Por ello, aunque en ocasiones se reposicionó, durante la mayor parte del primer tercio aceptó intercambiar golpes con su contrincante desde la distancia corta y media-corta, marcando muchas veces la diferencia con su explosividad. Y es que, si bien Ahmed a veces tiraba más golpes, estos eran menos significativos que los claros ganchos zurdos, cruzados diestros y hooks al torso de Braithwaite, que sacudió a su rival con un curvo de mano adelantada en el tercer asalto.
De todos modos, tras un cuarto round en el que Ahmed fue más insistente con sus series, en el quinto Braithwaite intentó moverse más y no tuvo mayores éxitos, sino que le dio margen a su oponente para sostener sus ofensivas e imponer su cadencia durante asaltos consecutivos. De hecho, pareció que Braithwaite se había cansado un tanto, por lo que Ahmed acortó la distancia en las tarjetas hasta llegar a ponerse por delante con sus poco contundentes pero regulares ofensivas.
Braithwaite necesitaba un segundo aire o, por lo menos, alcanzar un punto de inflexión que pudiese reducir el ritmo de Ahmed, pero no podía ir más allá de intentar igualar con sus claros golpes de poder el volumen de débiles puños de su rival una vez que aumentó su cadencia y avanzó. Con todo, en el último tercio los asaltos se igualaron otra vez, y en el undécimo asalto Braithwaite tuvo buenos aciertos antes de estremecer a su contrincante con un hook de izquierda, aunque Ahmed volvió a la carga de nuevo en el último asalto sin que su rival pudiese equiparar entonces su número de manos.
La puntuación de la pelea se redujo únicamente a una cuestión, es decir a si quien la valoraba daba más importancia a los escasos potentes puños o a los numerosos flojos golpes, por lo que se pueden encontrar todo tipo de cartulinas extraoficiales dependiendo de los criterios subjetivos de los observadores. Por ello, lo único que quedó claro es que se necesitará otra revancha más, ya sea Ahmed-Braithwaite o Ahmed-Khademi, y que a los aficionados sólo pueden esperar a que entonces uno de los contendientes imponga al fin sus cualidades de forma incuestionable o, por lo menos, sea superado sin controversia por sus puntos débiles para que se termine esta situación.

After two draws between Iljaz Ahmed 10(1KO)-2-3 and Quaise Khademi, it was expected that these two fighters would finally close their competition once and for all on March 3 and that the British super flyweight belt would no longer be vacant. This title has not had an owner since Sunny Edwards vacated it in 2020. However, Khademi had to be replaced by Marcel Braithwaite 14(0KO)-3-1 and the championship was rescheduled to this Friday, when the latter and Ahmed hoped to score a win that would change their careers.
But can you guess how the Ahmed-Braithwaite fight ended? Again in a draw, the scores being a reasonable 114-114, a 114-115 in favor of Braithwaite and an incredible 117-111 in favor of Ahmed. So we will have to wait, at least, a few more months to see a new British titlist crowned.
Ahmed’s plan was to reduce the distance and work at short range with his combinations of hooks, but Braithwaite was not willing to give up ground. For this reason, although he sometimes repositioned himself, during most of the first third he accepted to exchange shots with his opponent from close and medium-close distance, often being superior due to his explosiveness. Although Ahmed sometimes launched more punches, these were less significant than the clear left hooks, right overhands and body punches to the torso thrown by Braithwaite, who rocked his opponent with a lead hook in the third round.
In any case, after a fourth round in which Ahmed was more insistent with his series, in the fifth Braithwaite tried to walk more and he reduced his success, as he gave his opponent room to sustain his offensives and impose his punch output during consecutive rounds. In fact, it seemed that Braithwaite had tired a bit, so Ahmed closed the gap on the scorecards until he took the lead with his weak but regular attacks.
Braithwaite needed a second wind, or at least a turning point that could slow Ahmed’s pace down, but he couldn’t go beyond trying to match the volume of his opponent’s soft punches with his clear power shots once he increased his work rate and moved forward. However, in the final third the rounds got closer again, and in the eleventh round Braithwaite landed some good shots before rocking his opponent with a left hook, although Ahmed charged again in the final round with his high number of shots.
The scoring of the fight depended solely on one question, that is to say, whether the scorer gave more importance to the few powerful punches or to the numerous weak blows, so for this reason all kinds of unofficial cards can be found depending on the subjective criteria of the watchers. Therefore, the only thing that was clear after the twelve rounds is that another rematch will be needed, be it Ahmed-Braithwaite or Ahmed-Khademi, and that the fans can only wait for one of the contenders to finally impose his qualities unquestionably, or at least to be overcome without controversy by his weak points, so that this situation ends.
