El prospecto irlandés Callum Walsh sumó fácil victoria sobre Wesley Tucker en el combate estelar del evento de UFC Fight Pass

Ante el oponente original Leonardo di Stefano Ruiz, el prospecto irlandés del peso superwélter “King” Callum Walsh 6(5KO)-0 ya era muy claro favorito para imponerse, aún era más previsible su victoria enfrentándose al sustituto tardío estadounidense Wesley “King Wes” Tucker 15(9KO)-5(3), que venía en una racha de 1-4. Efectivamente, la pasada noche, en el combate estelar del evento de UFC Fight Pass, Walsh se impuso por KOT en el segundo round.
Durante gran parte del primer round Walsh se fue adaptando calmadamente a su oponente, que es zurdo como él, si bien ya empezó a imponer su ventaja en dimensiones y su velocidad de manos con alguna buena combinación. Tucker, que pese a ser más bajo es más musculoso, no encontró la manera de contragolpear o de ser competitivo, y en el segundo asalto un cruzado de izquierda acompañado por un jab le derribó. En la reanudación, Walsh le golpeó en las cuerdas con combinaciones de hooks antes de ponerlo de rodillas en la lona con un uppercut-hook. Finalmente, un nuevo ataque del invicto bastó para que su oponente volviese a caer y la esquina de Tucker detuviese el encuentro.
Dado que Walsh tenía todas las ventajas posibles y se enfrentaba a un remplazo tardío, no se debe sobrevalorar el triunfo del prospecto. Pero es justo señalar que le asestó la derrota más rápida de su carrera a Tucker y lo hizo con extrema facilidad, no habiendo tenido hasta ahora Walsh ni mínimas dificultades con sus seis oponentes profesionales. Por ello, y debiéndose valorar que tuvo una buena carrera amateur y que sólo tiene 22 años, Walsh es un púgil con proyección y al que valdrá la pena prestar atención en sus próximos pasos adelante.

Against the original opponent Leonardo di Stefano Ruiz, Irish super welterweight prospect “King” Callum Walsh 6(5KO)-0 was clear favorite to prevail, so his victory against late substitute Wesley “King Wes” Tucker 15(9KO)-5(3) was even more predictable, the underdog coming off a 1-4 partial record. Indeed, last night, in the main event of the UFC Fight Pass card, Walsh scored a second-round TKO.
For much of the first round, Walsh calmly adapted to his opponent, who is southpaw like him, although he already began to impose his advantage in size and hand speed with some good combinations. Tucker, who despite being shorter is more muscular, couldn’t find a way to counterpunch or be competitive, and in the second round a left hook followed by a jab knocked him down. After the restart, Walsh attacked him on the ropes with hooks before bringing him to his knees with an uppercut-hook combination. Finally, a new attack from the undefeated dropped again Tucker and his corner stopped the match.
With Walsh having every possible advantage and facing a late replacement, the prospect’s win shouldn’t be overrated. But it’s fair to say that he dealt the quickest defeat of his career to Tucker (and he did it with extreme ease) and that Walsh has not had any difficulties with his six professional opponents. For this reason, and taking into account that he had a good amateur career and that he is only 22 years old, Walsh is a fighter with projection and to whom it will be worth paying attention in his next steps up.
