The four world bantamweight belts that belonged to Naoya Inoue now have challengers decided

Once Naoya Inoue vacated his four world belts there were six names that were undoubtedly set to fight in matchup for one of the unowned titles. These were Nonito Donaire, Takuma Inoue, Melvin López, Emmanuel Rodríguez, Vincent Astrolabio, and Jason Moloney. However, there were different possibilities for several of these boxers, who were very well ranked in two organizations. This has ultimately led to a mix of names somewhat different from what was initially expected and to the access to title fights for some of the fighters whose chances depended on the decisions of other boxers.

First of all, it is confirmed that Takuma Inoue will fight Liborio Solís for the vacant WBA bantamweight belt on April 8 in Japan, since the number 2 in the ranking Melvin López chose not to follow the Association’s route and his position passed to the next ranked fighter, that is Solís.

On the other hand, regarding the WBC belt, as expected Nonito Donaire will fight for it, although there was no agreement with Jason Moloney, who will follow the path of another organization. Thus, Donaire will face Alexandro Santiago for the vacant belt, with rumors pointing out that the duel will take place in the middle of the year at a PBC card.

Returning to Melvin López, he will finally battle for the IBF title against Emmanuel Rodríguez, since Vincent Astrolabio, despite winning a final eliminator in this sanctioning body, ended up choosing to pursue the WBO crown. The Rodríguez-López bout has already been ordered by the IBF, is in negotiation and could also end up taking place in a PBC evening.

In this way, the remaining belt, the WBO, will have the aforementioned Vincent Astrolabio and Jason Moloney as challengers. They will most likely meet at a Top Rank evening that has several possible dates and tentative venues.

So, barring an injury, a sudden disagreement or some other kind of unforeseen obstacle, in a few months from these four clashes four new world champions will emerge in the bantamweight division, and Naoya Inoue’s undisputed crown will be completely divided again, as the organizations simply do not want the belts to be completely unified indefinitely, since this takes away their power to manipulate and to maneuver in the offices and it reduces their potential profits.
