El prospecto Adam Azim venció ampliamente a Santos Reyes, Zak Chelli logró estupenda victoria sobre Sims

El único objetivo del combate era que el destacado prospecto Adam “The Assassin” Azim 8(6KO)-0 se anotase una nueva rápida y espectacular victoria ante un boxeador con un nivel muy inferior al suyo. El plan no salió exactamente como se quería, puesto que Azim derrotó ampliamente al nicaragüense Santos Reyes 12(3KO)-1 pero no pudo noquearlo y además mostró preocupantes brechas pese a su sensacional técnica. Las tarjetas fueron un triple 100-89.
Entrando y saliendo Azim evitó con gran fluidez las manos de su contrincante y llegó con hábiles rectos y algunos explosivos curvos. Tras varias excelentes esquivas de un Azim que pronto se dio cuenta de que iba a tener más éxito contragolpeando, en el segundo round el favorito sacó un derechazo que derribó a Reyes, aunque éste se levantó y siguió en la pelea recibiendo las velocísimas manos arriba y abajo de su oponente.
Pese a su completa inferioridad y a lo frustrante que podía ser la excelente defensa de Azim, que eludía manos con gran maestría y soltura, Reyes lo continuó intentando, aunque hasta la mitad esto sólo le llevó a golpear el aire antes de que el británico le sacudiese con curvos arriba y amenazase con romperlo con golpes abajo. De todos modos, posteriormente en varias ocasiones Reyes aprovechó los desmedidos excesos de confianza de Azim para golpearle con duros hooks zurdos al rostro, golpes que de haber sido conectados por un boxeador con pegada habrían podido poner en apuros al local.
En cualquier caso, Reyes no tenía la potencia para crear dificultades y Azim, viendo que no iba a lograr la detención ante el bravo y voluntarioso nicaragüense, se contentó con moverse, jabear y escoger contragolpes para hacerse con un amplísimo triunfo por decisión.
Es evidente que Azim tiene grandes cualidades, pero no podemos saber cómo es de bueno realmente hasta que no le veamos en retos mucho más exigentes. Y es que aunque es capaz de brillar ante rivales con limitaciones técnicas está por ver cómo se desenvolverá ante un oponente con más recursos y potencia.
Chelli logró gran victoria
En cuanto al semifondo, el campeón de Inglaterra Zak Chelli 13(6KO)-1-1 no sólo demostró estar listo para vencer su crucial pugna ante el estadounidense Anthony Sims Jr. 23(20KO)-2, sino que en este duelo visto sobre el papel como 50/50 logró una amplísima victoria en la que anuló en gran parte a su contrincante. Las puntuaciones en el triunfo unánime de Chelli fueron 98-92, 98-92, 99-92.
La hábil y veloz mano adelantada de Chelli llegó repetidamente en jab y gancho zurdo contra Sims, que no encontraba bien su distancia ni su ritmo pese a que eventualmente llegó con algún directo diestro. El estadounidense necesitaba ajustar, ya que la pelea era demasiado táctica y no podía depender de manos aisladas peleando como visitante ante un boxeador más activo, veloz y heterodoxo. Sin embargo, Sims siguió ocupando el centro del ring sin cambiar su planteamiento y Chelli siguió aguijoneando con su jab y llegando con claros hooks de mano adelantada y cruzados diestros.
Sintiendo que estaba siendo muy superior, pasada la mitad Chelli ni siquiera dudó a la hora de intercambiar golpes en media-corta con un Sims con más pegada que él, y de hecho el británico llegó con manos más certeras y significativas. Aun así, sus absurdos riesgos acabaron costándole caro, ya que en el octavo round fue dañado por los golpes de poder de Sims, que le hostigó con dureza. Pese a que en un cierto momento Chelli pareció en apuros, en el noveno asalto conectó buenos derechazos que neutralizaron a Sims, que no volvió a tener éxitos equivalentes a los del octavo round.

The only objective of the fight was for the prospect Adam “The Assassin” Azim 8(6KO)-0 to score another quick and spectacular victory over a boxer with a level much lower than his. The plan did not go exactly as wanted, since Azim beat the Nicaraguan Santos Reyes 12(3KO)-1 widely but could not knock him out and also showed worrying flaws despite his sensational technique. All three judges scored the bout 100-89, 100-89, 100-89.
Going in and out Azim fluidly avoided his opponent’s hands and landed skillful straight hands and explosive hooks. After several excellent dodges from Azim, who soon realized that he was going to have more success counterpunching, in the second round the favorite connected a right hand that knocked Reyes down, although he got up and continued in the fight receiving the very fast punches up and down from his opponent.
Despite his complete inferiority and how frustrating Azim’s great defense could be (he avoided shots with great ease), Reyes kept trying, although until the half point this only led him to hit the air before the Brit rocked him with hooks upstairs and threatened to break him down with body shots. However, on several occasions thereafter Reyes took advantage of Azim’s overconfidence to hit him with hard left hooks to the face, blows that could have put the local in trouble had they been thrown by a puncher.
In any case, Reyes did not have the power to create difficulties and Azim, seeing that he was not going to get the stoppage against the brave and tenacious Nicaraguan, moved, jabed and selected counterpunches to obtain a wide decision win.
It is obvious that Azim has great qualities, but we cannot know how good he really is until we see him in much more demanding challenges. Although he is capable of shining against boxers with technical limitations, it remains to be seen how he will perform against an opponent with more technical resources and power.
Chelli achieved great victory
As for the co-feature fight, English champion Zak Chelli 13(6KO)-1-1 not only proved that he was ready to win his decisive fight against American Anthony Sims Jr. 23(20KO)-2, but he achieved a very wide victory, in which he largely neutralized his opponent, in a match seen on paper as a 50/50. The scores in Chelli’s unanimous win were 98-92, 98-92, 99-92.
Chelli’s deft, quick lead hand landed repeatedly on jabs and left hooks against Sims, who couldn’t quite find his distance or rhythm even though he eventually connected a right hand. The American needed to adjust, as the fight was too tactical and he could not rely only on isolated hands fighting on the road against a more active, fast and unorthodox boxer. However, Sims continued to occupy the center of the ring without changing his approach, so Chelli kept hitting him with his jab and striking with clear overhand rights and lead hooks.
Feeling he was being far superior, after the half point Chelli didn’t even hesitate to trade shots at short-medium distance with a boxer with more punch than him, and in fact the Brit landed more accurate and significant hands. Even so, his absurd risks ended up having consequences, since in the eighth round he was hurt by Sims’s power shots and then he was attacked intensely. However, despite at one point Chelli seemed in trouble, in the ninth round the local landed good right hands that neutralized Sims, who did not have again successes as those of the eighth round.
