Edgar Berlanga ya no será parte de la escuadra de Top Rank

En los últimos años en la escuadra de Top Rank han habido dos boxeadores que han pasado de acaparar miradas y generar muy optimistas proyecciones a ser considerados básicamente productos de marketing con enormes brechas y graves problemas de actitud. Uno de ellos es Teófimo López y el otro es Edgar Berlanga, jóvenes boxeadores que parecen estar en una cuesta abajo en cuanto a sus rendimientos y sus carreras.
En el caso de Berlanga, que se dio a conocer por una racha de 16 victorias seguidas en el primer asalto, Top Rank ha decidido ya prescindir de sus servicios, algo que se ha pactado de mutuo acuerdo con el púgil. Y es que, a pesar de que en las redes sociales sea conocido y pueda atraer un cierto número de espectadores a los recintos, sus actuaciones han estado muy por debajo de las expectativas, sin que eso tenga que ver con el fin de su cadena de knockouts.
Hay que recordar que en sus últimos tres combates Berlanga logró triunfos controvertidos ante Marcelo Cóceres, Steve Rolls y Roamer Angulo, al último de los cuales encima mordió en un arrebato de frustración por su propia ineficacia. Además, aunque se le han buscado rivales que por estilo deberían haberle favorecido, Berlanga cada vez boxea peor, teniendo una muy mala gestión táctica y mostrando muchas dudas al ataque, algo que evidencia su pérdida de confianza y su cambio de mentalidad. En otras palabras, no tiene ya nada que ver con el boxeador que se abalanzaba sobre sus rivales intentando destruirlos.
El fin de la colaboración Top Rank-Berlanga no significa que la carrera del boxeador esté acabada. Con 25 años y una considerable cantidad de seguidores quizás pueda lograr un buen acuerdo con alguna otra compañía, pueda encontrar un buen entrenador y recupere la motivación y la ambición ofensiva que le falta. Sin embargo, cuando un boxeador que basa su estilo en amedrentar y apabullar a sus rivales pierde la garra en sus primeros tests, es difícil que la llegue a recuperar.

In recent years, in the Top Rank squad there have been two fighters who have gone from grabbing fans attention and generating very optimistic projections regarding their careers to being basically considered marketing products with huge flaws and serious attitude issues. One of them is Teófimo López and the other is Edgar Berlanga, boxers who seem to be on a slippery slope in terms of their performances and their careers.
In the case of Berlanga, who became known for a streak of 16 first-round victories, Top Rank has decided to dispense with his services, something that has been mutually agreed upon with the fighter. Despite the fact that he is known on social networks and can attract a certain number of spectators to the venues, his performances have been well below expectations, without this having to do with the end of his string of knockouts.
It must be remembered that in his last three bouts Berlanga obtained controversial victories against Marcelo Cóceres, Steve Rolls and Roamer Angulo, whom he even bit in a fit of frustration caused by his own ineffectiveness. In addition, although his promoter has looked for opponents who should have favored his style, Berlanga is boxing worse and worse, having very poor tactical management and showing a lot of hesitation in attack, clear sign of his loss of confidence and his mindset change. In other words, he is no longer the puncher who pounced on his opponents trying to destroy them.
The end of the Top Rank-Berlanga alliance does not mean that the boxer’s career is over. At 25 years old and with a considerable following, perhaps he can strike a good deal with some other company, he can find a good coach and he can regain the motivation and offensive ambition that he lacks. However, when a boxer who bases his style on intimidating and overwhelming his opponents loses his grit in his first tests, it is difficult for him to recover it.
