El invicto Mazlum Akdeniz se anotó tres knockdowns y venció por decisión unánime al mexicano Cristian Bielma

Al igual que en la noche más difícil de su carrera hasta la fecha, la que tuvo ante Erick Encinia, Mazlum Akdeniz 18(8KO)-0 se enfrentó el viernes a otro mexicano como Cristian “El Gato Gordo” Bielma 19(7KO)-6(1)-2. Con todo, el nivel de Encinia es muy diferente al de Bielma, por lo que también lo fue el combate, logrando esta vez Akdeniz una clara victoria por decisión unánime, triples tarjetas de 100-87 y anotarse tres knockdowns, aunque todos ellos poco convencionales cuando menos.
Durante casi todo el combate el zurdo Akdeniz persiguió a su rival lanzando izquierdas rectas o cruzados, mientras que Bielma se movió por el ring intentando reducir la presión, agarrándose o lanzando esporádicas contraofensivas tratando de entrar y salir. En este planteamiento fue el primero quien tuvo mucho más acierto, anotando manos zurdas claras que en casi ningún momento Bielma pudo igualar.
Por si esto fuese poco, Akdeniz se anotó tres cuestionables knockdowns: uno en el tercer round cuando el hombro de Bielma chocó con la cabeza de su agachado rival y se desequilibró, recibiendo entonces un par de ganchos; otro en el quinto round cuando Akdeniz pisó el pie adelantado del mexicano a la vez que éste intentaba moverse tras una izquierda bloqueada; y otro en el séptimo asalto cuando el local conectó un gancho abajo a la vez que chocaron sus piernas.
Dado que a estas caídas se sumaron bastantes otras sin cuenta debido a resbalones, mala posición de piernas, etc. y dado que Akdeniz siguió presionando y conectando golpes de poder (desde el sexto round trabajó más con hooks en corta además de con sus directos en media), “El Gato Gordo” dio claras muestras de cansancio que evidenciaron aún más su inferioridad. Con todo, inesperadamente Bielma impactó un gancho zurdo en el último asalto que tambaleó a Akdeniz, aunque éste pudo lidiar con los breves problemas y ganar la pelea.
Evidentemente, esta vez no hubo polémica en el triunfo de Akdeniz, pero tampoco fue una actuación fantástica. Contra un peso ligero que ascendía de división, que fue batido en cuatro asaltos por Ángel Fierro y que sumó recientemente un empate ante un rival mucho menos experimentado, Akdeniz fue incapaz de generar serios daños (las caídas fueron causadas más por sus piernas que por sus manos) y en varios momentos gestionó mal la distancia o cometió errores en defensa, incluido el susto del último asalto.
Por ello, aunque con esta defensa de un título menor Akdeniz se acercará un poco más al top 15 WBC superligero desde su posición de 35º no hay motivos para el optimismo respecto a sus posibilidades de éxito en futuras pruebas de fuego ante rivales de nivel alto.

As in the most difficult night of his career to date, the one he had against Erick Encinia, on Friday Mazlum Akdeniz 18(8KO)-0 faced another Mexican, this time Cristian “El Gato Gordo” Bielma 19(7KO)-6(1)-2. All in all, Encinia’s level is very different from Bielma’s, so this time Akdeniz achieved a clear victory by unanimous decision (triple cards of 100-87) and scored three knockdowns, although all of them unconventional to say the least.
For most of the bout the southpaw Akdeniz chased his opponent throwing straight hands or left hooks, while Bielma moved around the ring seeking to reduce the pressure, clinched or threw sporadic counterattacks trying to go in and out. In this situation, it was the former who had much more success, landing clear left hands that Bielma was almost never able to match.
As if this were not enough, Akdeniz scored three questionable knockdowns: one in the third round when Bielma’s shoulder collided with his crouching opponent’s head and he was thrown off balance, receiving then a pair of hooks; another in the fifth round when Akdeniz stepped on the Mexican’s lead foot as he tried to move while blocking a left hand; and another in the seventh round when the local connected a hook down as their legs collided.
Since Bielma fell many other times without count due to slipping, poor leg position, etc., and since Akdeniz continued to press and connect power shots (from the sixth round he worked more with hooks at short range as well as with his straight punches from mid-range), «El Gato Gordo» showed clear signs of fatigue that further evidenced his inferiority. Still, Bielma unexpectedly landed a left hook in the final round that staggered Akdeniz, though he was able to deal with the brief difficulty and win the fight.
There was obviously no controversy in Akdeniz’s win this time, but it wasn’t a fantastic performance either. Against a lightweight moving up in weight who was beaten in four rounds by Ángel Fierro and who recently fought to a draw against a much less experienced opponent, Akdeniz was unable to do any serious damage (the knockdowns were caused more by his legs than his hands) and at various times he mismanaged the distance or made mistakes in defense, including the scare in the last round.
Therefore, although with this defense of a minor title Akdeniz will move a little closer to the super lightweight top 15 in the WBC ranking (his current position is 35th), there is no reason for optimism regarding his chances of success in future decisive tests against high-level opponents.
