Fabio Wardley hizo sucumbir a un Nathan Gorman sin fuerza mental y se proclamó campeón británico del peso pesado

En el decisivo choque del peso pesado entre el prospecto sin poner a prueba Fabio Wardley 15(14KO)-0 y un Nathan Gorman 19(13KO)-2(2) que necesitaba a toda costa una victoria significativa, fue el primero quien logró imponerse por KOT en el tercer round y se proclamó campeón británico, llevando su carrera a un nuevo nivel de cara a 2023.
Gorman tiró su jab con gran velocidad e incluso tomó la incitativa en el primer round, conectando excelentes uppercuts diestros. Esto motivó mucho a un Gorman, como siempre en mala forma, y que cometió el atroz error de quedarse demasiado en la distancia media. Así, aunque logró conectar algunos duros ganchos, Wardley reaccionó sacando furiosos golpes de poder hasta que lo derribó con un derechazo, llevándole al tapiz otra vez más con un directo antes de que terminase el emocionante asalto.
La pelea llegó al tercer episodio, pero estaba ya claro que (como sucedió ante Dubois) Gorman no puede lidiar física o mentalmente con la potencia de los pegadores pese a su gran habilidad, así que volvió a ser derribado por un directo diestro acompañado de un gancho zurdo y algo más tarde su esquina tiró la toalla para salvar a su púgil. De ese modo, Wardley dio todo un golpe en la mesa a la vez que Gorman volvió a quedarse cortísimo en un reto decisivo, decepcionó con su actuación y perdió la poca confianza en él que les quedaba a los aficionados.
McCormack ganó a los puntos
En cuanto al plata olímpico Pat McCormack 3(2KO)-0, éste por primera vez pasó del primer asalto como profesional. De hecho, alcanzó el sexto asalto y venció a los puntos (60-54) al argentino Christian “El Elegante” Andino 16(2KO)-6(1)-2.
Andino tenía como único objetivo llegar a la decisión, por lo que prácticamente se olvidó de conectar manos y se pasó el tiempo corriendo, agarrándose y protestando por supuestos golpes ilegales. Por su parte, McCormack le persiguió conectando directos diestros y ganchos zurdos que le dieron los asaltos, si bien es verdad que erró demasiadas manos y que no logró generar daños críticos. En un cierto momento el árbitro le pidió a Andino que mostrase más combatividad, pero no hubo a penas variación y el visitante logró su objetivo de llegar a la última campana con su conservadora táctica, aunque a costa de perder todos los rounds.

In the decisive heavyweight clash between untested prospect Fabio Wardley 15(14KO)-0 and Nathan Gorman 19(13KO)-2(2), who needed a significant victory at all costs, it was the former who prevailed by third round TKO and became British champion, taking his career to a new level for 2023.
Gorman jabbed with great speed and even took the initiative in the first round, landing excellent right uppercuts. This greatly motivated Gorman, who was in poor shape as always and who made the big mistake of staying for too long in the middle distance. So while in the second round he managed to land some hard hooks, Wardley reacted by unleashing furious power shots until he floored Gorman with a right hand, bringing him to the mat once more with a straight hand before the exciting round ended.
The fight reached the third episode, but it was already clear that (as happened against Dubois) Gorman cannot deal physically of mentally with the power of the punchers despite his great skill, so he was knocked down again by a straight right hand followed by a left hook and a bit later his corner threw in the towel to save his fighter. In this way, Wardley made a big statement, while Gorman fell very short again in a decisive challenge, disappointing with his performance and losing what little confidence the boxing fans had in him.
McCormack won on points
As for the Olympic silver medalist Pat McCormack 3(2KO)-0, he went beyond the first round as a professional for the first time. In fact, he reached the sixth round and beat Argentinian Christian «El Elegante» Andino 16(2KO)-6(1)-2 on points (60-54).
Andino’s sole objective was to avoid a stoppage, so he threw very few hands and spent the time running, holding and protesting supposed illegal blows. For his part, McCormack chased him, connecting straight right hands and left hooks that allowed him to win the rounds, although he missed too many hands and failed to generate critical damage. At a certain point, the referee asked Andino to show more combativeness, but there was hardly any variation and the visitor achieved his goal of reaching the last bell with his conservative tactics, although he lost all the rounds.
