El peso medio polaco-ucraniano Fiodor Czerkaszyn logró solidísima victoria ante Nathaniel Gallimore

El polaco-ucraniano Fiodor Czerkaszyn 21(13KO)-0 veía su primera aparición en una velada emitida por Showtime como una oportunidad no sólo para cambiar su carrera sino también para cambiar su vida. De ese modo, teniendo mucha motivación, notables cualidades boxísticas y enfrentándose a un peso superwélter ascendido con múltiples derrotas como el jamaicano-estadounidense Nathaniel Gallimore 22(17KO)-6(1)-1, el resultado de triunfo de Czerkaszyn por amplísima decisión unánime no resultó sorprendente. Las tarjetas fueron de justo 100-90, 99-91 y un ridículo 97-93.
Gallimore, que no quiso chocar guantes con su rival antes del combate, intentó caminar y jabear, realizar inesperadas arremetidas o tomar la iniciativa y avanzar hasta la distancia corta, pero en ningún escenario táctico tuvo considerables resultados positivos. Al contrario, el jab de Czerkaszyn fue más preciso, sus buenas derechas rectas neutralizaron cualquier éxito en los desplazamientos de Gallimore y en los momentos en corta el polaco-ucraniano llegó con duros hooks y uppercuts.
El combate estaba siendo ganado con mucha diferencia por Czerkaszyn que, pese a parecer algo rígido de torso y no aparentar gran explosividad, calmada y metódicamente fue trabajando con su directo al ataque y a la contra, con ganchos zurdos y con variadas combinaciones de curvos que castigaron a Gallimore.
El jamaicano fue golpeado por una preocupante cantidad de derechazos y cruzados diestros en el quinto asalto, pero sobrellevó estos momentos y en los siguientes rounds llegó con algún directo entrando desde lejos. Con todo, igualmente Czerkaszyn continuó conectando muchos más golpes de poder, entre ellos cuantiosos derechazos consecutivos, y además evitó que su rival pudiese dar continuidad a sus acciones ofensivas cortándolas con insistentes clinches. En resumen, la victoria de Czerkaszyn, pese a no ser por knockout, resultó abrumadora.
Si hace tres o cuatro años ya despuntaba como un prospecto al que prestar atención, en este tiempo Czerkaszyn ha continuado afianzando las buenas perspectivas hasta convertirse en un serio contendiente para disputar un mundial en la división del peso medio, que no vive actualmente su mejor momento. Así, resultará interesante tanto ver cuántas posiciones asciende en los rankings mundiales como conocer a quién le seleccionará PBC como próximo adversario.

Polish-Ukrainian Fiodor Czerkaszyn 21(13KO)-0 saw his first appearance on a Showtime evening as an opportunity not only to change his career but to change his life. In this way, having a lot of motivation, remarkable boxing qualities and facing a former super welterweight with multiple losses like the American-Jamaican Nathaniel Gallimore 22(17KO)-6(1)-1, Czerkaszyn’s very wide unanimous decision victory did not came as a surprise. The scorecards were a fair 100-90, a 99-91 and a ridiculous 97-93.
Gallimore, who didn’t want to touch gloves with his opponent before the fight, tried to walk and jab, make unexpected lunges or take the initiative and bring the actions to close range, but he did not have significant positive results in any tactical scenario. On the contrary, Czerkaszyn’s jab was more accurate, his good straight rights neutralized any success when Gallimore moved and in the moments at short range the Polish-Ukrainian connected hard hooks and uppercuts.
The fight was being clearly won by Czerkaszyn who, despite seeming somewhat stiff in the torso and not appearing very explosive, calmly and methodically worked with his right hand attacking and counterattacking and with varied combinations of hooks that punished Gallimore.
The Jamaican was hit by a worrying amount of right overhands in the fifth round, but he weathered these difficulties and in the following rounds landed a few straight shots lunging from long distance. However, Czerkaszyn continued to connect many more power shots, including numerous consecutive right hands, and also prevented his opponent from giving continuity to his offensive actions by cutting them off with insistent clinches. To sum up, Czerkaszyn’s victory, despite not being a knockout, was overwhelming.
If three or four years ago he already stood out as a prospect to pay attention to, in the time elapsed since then Czerkaszyn has continued to consolidate his good projection until becoming a serious contender to reach a world championship bout in the middleweight division, which is not currently having a great moment. Thus, it will be interesting both to see how many positions he climbs now in the world rankings and to know who PBC will select as his next opponent.
