El enfrentamiento Golovkin-Falcão podría facilitar triple unificación y la instauración de nueva estrella kazaja del peso medio

Los organismos boxísticos tienden a tomar sus decisiones tarde y a llevar a la confusión, incluso cuando todo podría estar claro desde el primer momento.
Según el sistema rotatorio de defensas obligatorias, el plata olímpico brasileño Esquiva Falcão debía ser quien se enfrentase primero al campeón mundial WBA-IBF del peso medio Gennadiy Golovkin tras el tercer combate contra Canelo Álvarez. Y es que Falcão ganó una eliminatoria final IBF ante Patrice Volny en noviembre de 2021, lo que le convirtió en retador oficial mucho antes de que la WBA emitiese una resolución definitiva según la cual el cubano Erislandy Lara era oficialmente el retador obligatorio de dicho organismo.
Pese a ello, cuando se ha dado a conocer la noticia de que la WBA y la IBF han dirimido quién debía tener antes acceso a la pelea titular ante Golovkin, siendo éste Falcão, se han producido inadecuadas interpretaciones de los hechos por parte de algunos expertos que querían convertir el asunto en una injusticia contra Lara, aunque esto simplemente no es así.
En cualquier caso, al margen de si este combate es el más adecuado o deseable, si Golovkin no deja vacante su título (algo que es posible), en unas semanas deberá alcanzar un acuerdo para medirse a Falcão, y el ganador de este choque tendrá que enfrentarse posteriormente a Erislandy Lara.
Lo que está siendo pasado por alto en toda esta historia es que, en caso de victoria de Falcão (algo que no es imposible teniendo en cuenta la mala actuación de “GGG” en la tercera pelea ante un muy tibio Canelo) se podrían poner las bases para una futura triple unificación de la división. Por otro lado, si “GGG” renuncia a su título IBF y Falcão captura la corona vacante contra Michael Zerafa, una unificación de dos cinturones sería también perfectamente viable.
Y es que Falcão es miembro de la escuadra de Top Rank al igual que el monarca mundial WBO del peso medio, el kazajo Janibek Alimkhanuly, lo que haría extremadamente posible que se pudiese pactar una unificación entre ambos. Más aún dando la sensación de que la promotora tiene muy claro el potencial de Alimkhanuly después de varias demoledoras actuaciones y de que Demetrius Andrade y Jaime Munguía rechazasen medirse a él.
Así, más allá del interés que puedan tener los choques entre Golovkin, Falcão y Lara, quizás todo ello sólo sea un preámbulo antes de que Alimkhanuly surja de forma definitiva como una nueva gran estrella de Kazajistán en el peso medio.
The Golovkin-Falcão fight could facilitate triple unification and the establishment of a new Kazakh middleweight star

Boxing sanctioning bodies tend to make their decisions too late and lead to confusion, even when everything could be clear from the start.
According to the rotating system of mandatory defenses, Brazilian Olympic silver medalist Esquiva Falcão was supposed to face first WBA-IBF world middleweight champion Gennadiy Golovkin after the third fight against Canelo Álvarez. Falcão won an IBF final eliminator against Patrice Volny in November 2021, which made him official challenger long before the WBA issued a definitive resolution according to which the Cuban Erislandy Lara was the mandatory challenger of that organization.
Despite this, when it was confirmed that the WBA and the IBF had settled who should have access first to the title fight against Golovkin, this being Falcão, there have been inadequate interpretations of the facts by some experts, who wanted to turn the matter into an injustice against Lara, although this is simply not the case.
In any case, regardless of whether it is the most appropriate or desirable bout, in the event that Golovkin does not vacate his title (something that is very possible), in a few weeks he will have to reach an agreement to face Falcão, and the winner of this clash will have to face later Erislandy Lara.
What is being overlooked in this whole story is that, in the event of Falcão’s victory (something that is not impossible considering the poor performance of “GGG” in the third fight against a very tepid Canelo) it could lay the groundwork for a future triple unification of the division. If “GGG” renounces to his IBF title and Falcão conquers the vacant crown against Michael Zerafa, a unification of two belts would be also perfectly viable.
Falcão is a member of the Top Rank stable as well as the WBO world middleweight champion, the Kazakh Janibek Alimkhanuly, which would make it extremely possible that a unification could be agreed between the two fighters. Even more so seeming that the promotional company knows very well Alimkhanuly’s potential after several devastating performances and after Demetrius Andrade and Jaime Munguía refused to face him.
Thus, beyond the interest that the Golovkin, Falcão and Lara clashes may have, perhaps all of this is just a preamble before Alimkhanuly becomes definitely a new big star for Kazakhstan in the middleweight division.
