El peso superwélter griego Andreas Katzourakis 8(6KO)-0 hizo toda una declaración de intenciones en su carrera convirtiéndose en el tercer púgil en batir antes del límite al competente y resistente estadounidense Cameron Krael 19(6KO)-23(3)-3, que fue derrotado por KOT en el sexto asalto. Así, respondiendo satisfactoriamente en su mayor test hasta la fecha y en su primer combate a ocho rounds, Katzourakis queda emplazado a nuevos pasos adelante en su interesante avance como profesional.
En el otro choque destacado del día en el peso superwélter, el exclasificado Greg “The Villain” Vendetti 23(12KO)-5(1)-1 se vio sorprendido por el capaz Courtney Pennington 16(7KO)-5(1)-3, que le venció por decisión unánime de los jueces pese a ser derribado en una ocasión. De ese modo, Vendetti dio otro paso atrás que le aleja más aún de la parte alta de las listas a la vez que Pennington se ganó una nueva llamada para próximamente hacer de test para un púgil con aspiraciones.
Viernes 7 de octubre
Aunque el peso pluma chino Can Xu 18(3KO)-4(1) era claro favorito para vencer a Brandon León Benítez 19(7KO)-2(2), éste último logró una victoria por decisión dividida que es sin duda su mayor triunfo hasta la fecha. En base a él, el púgil mexicano podría ver su carrera dar un vuelco hacia mejor, aunque ahora necesitará más que nada lo que les ha faltado a tantos otros protagonistas de una victoria contra pronóstico: regularidad de rendimiento. Por su parte, Xu sigue perdiendo impulso y difícilmente volverá a recuperar la posición que tuvo en 2019, cuando algunos incluso le consideraban miembro de la élite del peso pluma.
Acompañando a este combate, tanto el peso superligero Cesar “Rainman” Francis 12(7KO)-0 como el olímpico, peso supermedio, Darrelle Valsaint 6(5KO)-0 lograron previsibles victorias antes del límite (los dos por KO en el segundo round), respectivamente, ante Francisco “Roca” Armenta 12(4KO)-2(2) y Paul Méndez 21(11KO)-4(2)-2. Por ello, ambos quedaron a la espera de peleas significativas, como una prueba de fuego para el 9º WBO Francis y un serio test para el prospecto Valsaint.
Respecto a la cuarta pugna entre el mexicano Hernán “Tyson” Márquez 47(33KO)-10(7)-2 y el panameño Luis “Nica” Concepción 40(29KO)-10(4) el primero logró una ajustada victoria por decisión dividida como local (95-94, 96-94 y 93-96) que puso el marcador de esta competencia en 3-1 a su favor. Al margen de que el resultado sea o no cuestionable, el hecho es que ambos llevan más 15 años en activo, han disputado más de 50 peleas en sus carreras y han sufrido mucho castigo acumulado y duros knockouts, por lo que, no teniendo posibilidades de aspirar a grandes objetivos actualmente en el peso supermosca, necesitan pensar seriamente en el retiro.
Sábado 8 de octubre
El evento de Premier Boxing Champions vio al peso superwélter Sebastián Fundora sumar una nueva victoria imponiéndose en una batalla de desgaste. En esta ocasión, su triunfo fue ante un bravo Carlos Ocampo, conservando así Fundora su posición como retador obligatorio WBC del campeón indiscutido superwélter Jermell Charlo. En el semifondo, otro aspirante oficial WBC, en este caso el peso medio dominicano Carlos Adames, sólo necesitó tres episodios para deshacerse de Juan Macías Montiel, un púgil ante el que anteriormente no lució el campeón del peso medio Jermall Charlo. Crónica del combate siguiendo el link.
La cartelera principal se inició con el argentino Fernando Martínez, monarca mundial IBF supermosca, venciendo ampliamente la revancha ante el extitular Jerwin Ancajas, cuya habilidad anuló a base de determinada y constante agresividad. Crónica del combate siguiendo el link.
Antes de estas peleas, el exretador mundial del peso wélter Egidijus Kavaliauskas derribó dos veces y venció por decisión unánime a Mykal Fox, retornando a la senda del triunfo tras su tropiezo ante Vergil Ortiz. Crónica y vídeo del combate siguiendo el link.

Cambiando de evento, la velada australiana con 20 peleas concluyó con el exaspirante mundial superwélter Dennis “Hurricane” Hogan imponiendo su astucia sobre el voluntarioso Sam Eggington. La cartelera principal de dicha velada también ofreció un entretenido combate del peso pluma ganado por decisión dividida por Ayisha Abied ante Shanell Dargan, un tedioso encuentro del peso superligero en el que Darragh Foley superó a Blake Minto y una victoria del peso medio Cody Beekin ante Lachlan Higgins. Otro encuentro destacado del sábado fue la eliminatoria por el título británico del peso wélter entre Liam “Dynamo” Taylor y Martin Harkin, pugna en la que el primero se impuso por KOT en el cuarto round para dejar atrás su derrota ante David Avanesyan. Terminando con la jornada del sábado:
-En un campeonato de Sudamérica del peso superpluma, Walter “El Distinto” Leiva 10(1KO)-3-1 volvió a ganar a Reuquén “Topo” Arce 15(7KO)-8(3)-2, pero de nuevo fue una igualada pugna. En ella, Leiva visitó el tapiz pero logró una decisión dividida a su favor (doble 95-94 y un 94-95).
-En cambio, Zahid “The Magic Man” Hussain 17(2KO)-2(1) se desquitó de su anterior derrota ante Razaq Najib 12(2KO)-5 superándolo por decisión unánime (100-92, 98-93 y 97-94) para proclamarse campeón de Inglaterra del peso supergallo.
-Finalmente el peso supermedio Kristaps Bulmeistars 11(5KO)-0 no peleó contra Nick Hannig sino contra el sustituto tardío Houcine Moulahi 4(2KO)-10-2, a quien venció por decisión unánime. En cuanto al peso crucero Arturs Gorlovs 10(8KO)-2-1, éste obtuvo un triunfo por decisión dividida (79-73, 78-74 y 76-77) ante el argentino Mariano Ángel Gudino 14(9KO)-7(3).
Domingo 9 de octubre
Concluyendo este artículo de resultados se puede mencionar que el combate entre los exaspirantes mundiales filipinos Vince Paras 18(15KO)-2-1y Robert Paradero 18(12KO)-3(1)-1 terminó con una victoria por decisión unánime del primero que le debería valer para escalar algún peldaño desde su posición de 15º IBF y empezar a proyectar un ambicioso 2023.
Por su parte, el peso supergallo sudafricano Thato Bonokoane 14(9KO)-5(1)-3 se anotó un triunfo por decisión mayoritaria (117-111, 116-112 y 1114-114) sobre el argentino Diego “El Profeta” Ruiz 23(12KO)-6(1)-1 que le sirvió para encadenar su tercera victoria consecutiva, su mejor racha desde 2018.

The Greek super welterweight Andreas Katzourakis 8(6KO)-0 made a statement by becoming the third fighter to beat by stoppage the competent and resistant American Cameron Krael 19(6KO)-23(3)-3, who was defeated by TKO in the sixth round. Thus, completing successfully his mission in his biggest test to date and his first eight-round fight, Katzourakis will face new steps forward in his interesting advance as a professional.
In the other super welterweight matchup of the day, former ranked boxer Greg “The Villain” Vendetti 23(12KO)-5(1)-1 was defeated by the capable Courtney Pennington 16(7KO)-5(1)-3, who beat him by unanimous decision of the judges despite being knocked down once. In this way, Vendetti will remain far from the rankings, while Pennington will get a new call soon to test a fighter with aspirations.
Friday, October 7
Although Chinese featherweight Can Xu 18(3KO)-4(1) was clear favorite to beat Brandon León Benítez 19(7KO)-2(2), the latter achieved a split decision victory which is undoubtedly his biggest success as a professional. Due to it, the Mexican’s career could take a turn for the better, although now he will need what so many other protagonists of an upset victory have lacked: consistency in his performances. For his part, Xu continues to lose momentum and will hardly regain the position he held in 2019, when some even considered him a member of the featherweight elite.
In the support for this bout, both the super lightweight Cesar «Rainman» Francis 12(7KO)-0 and the super middleweight Darrelle Valsaint 6(5KO)-0 achieved predictable stoppage victories (both by KO in the second round), respectively, over Francisco «Roca» Armenta 12(4KO)-2(2) and Paul Méndez 21(11KO)-4(2)-2. Therefore, the two boxers will wait now for more significant challenges, as a crucial fight for the 9th WBO Francis and a hard test for the prospect Valsaint.
As for the fourth fight between the Mexican Hernán «Tyson» Márquez 47(33KO)-10(7)-2 and the Panamanian Luis «Nica» Concepción 40(29KO)-10(4), the former achieved a narrow split decision win as a local (95-94, 96-94 and 93-96) that put the score of their competition at 3-1 in his favor. Regardless of whether the result is questionable or not, the fact is that both have been active as professional boxers for more than 15 years, have fought more than 50 fights in their careers and have suffered a lot of accumulated punishment and hard knockouts. So, without having chances of success currently at the super flyweight top, they need to think seriously about retirement.

In the main event of the Premier Boxing Champions evening, super welterweight Sebastian Fundora added another victory prevailing in a battle of attrition. On this occasion, his triumph came against a brave Carlos Ocampo, against whom Fundora retained his position as WBC mandatory challenger for the undisputed super welterweight champion Jermell Charlo. -As for super middleweight Kristaps Bulmeistars 11(5KO)-0, he did not fight Nick Hannig but rather late substitute Houcine Moulahi 4 (2KO)-10-2, whom he beat by unanimous decision. In this same card, cruiserweight Arturs Gorlovs 10(8KO)-2-1 won by split decision (79-73, 78-74 and 76-77) a clash against Argentinian Mariano Ángel Gudino 14(9KO)-7(3 ).
Sunday, October 9
Closing this results article, the fight between Filipino world title challengers Vince Paras 18(15KO)-2-1 and Robert Paradero 18(12KO)-3(1)-1 ended with a unanimous decision victory for the former. The win should serve Paras to climb some positions in the IBF ranking (in which he is 15th) and start projecting an ambitious 2023.
For his part, the South African super bantamweight Thato Bonokoane 14(9KO)-5(1)-3 scored a majority decision victory (117-111, 116-112 and 1114-114) over the Argentinian Diego «El Profeta» Ruiz 23(12KO)-6(1)-1. This was the third consecutive win by Bonokoane, his best streak since 2018.
