Si PBC pretendía que tras el enfrentamiento entre el dominicano Carlos Adames 22(17KO)-1 y el mexicano Juan Macias Montiel 23(23KO)-6(2)-2 se hiciesen comparativas con Jermall Charlo favorables a Adames, el plan se cumplió a la perfección. Y es que, mientras el monarca WBC Charlo necesitó doce rounds para ganar una decisión ante un Macías que tuvo sus momentos, Adames dominó las acciones antes de terminar el encuentro en el tercer episodio.
La pugna arrancó táctica y con bajo ritmo, provocando algunos silbidos del público. En cualquier caso, Adames hizo valer su ventaja en velocidad, habilidad y explosividad para conectar directos aislados ante un Macías demasiado frontal, lento e inactivo de manos.
Tras unos minutos en los que la situación se mantuvo así, comenzaron a llegar los intercambios de golpes en corta, en los que de nuevo el dominicano se llevó la mejor parte. Es más, en el tercer asalto impactó demoledores curvos, destacando varios cruzados diestros, que dañaron y tambalearon a un Macías que, golpeado sin respuesta, vio como el árbitro paraba la pelea.
Sobre el papel, la posesión del título interino WBC le asegura a Adames acceder a una pelea contra Jermall Charlo como aspirante obligatorio. Sin embargo, cuándo accederá a ella es una pregunta con difícil respuesta, especialmente si Charlo logra recibir permiso para encarar antes una pelea de calibre. Por otro lado, si como se rumorea Charlo decidiese abandonar su cinturón del peso medio y ascendiese al peso supermedio, Adames se convertiría automáticamente en campeón mundial WBC de pleno derecho.

If PBC intended that, after the clash between Dominican Carlos Adames 22(17KO)-1 and Mexican Juan Macias Montiel 23(23KO)-6(2)-2, comparisons would be made between Jermall Charlo and Adames favorable to the latter, the plan was fulfilled perfectly. That is because, while the WBC champion Charlo needed twelve rounds to win a decision against Macías, who had brief good moments in the bout, Adames dominated the actions before finishing the match in the third round.
The fight started tactically and with a low pace, something that caused some hissing on the arena. In any case, Adames imposed his advantage in speed, skill and explosiveness to connect isolated straight punches against Macías, who was too stiff, slow and inactive with his hands.
After a few minutes in which the situation remained like this, both started to offer exchanges at short range, in which the Dominican once again had better results than his opponent. Moreover, in the third round Adames landed brutal shots, highlighting several right hooks, who hurt and staggered Macías. After some instants of punishment without response, the referee stopped the fight.
On paper, holding the WBC interim title will grant Adames the access to a fight against Jermall Charlo as a mandatory challenger. However, when he will reach that bout is a difficult question to answer, especially if Charlo receives permission to face a major fight before fighting the Dominican. On the other hand, if Charlo decides to vacate his middleweight belt and move up to super middleweight, as some rumors state he will do, Adames would automatically become the full-fledged WBC world champion.
