Hace un año, el británico Liam “Dynamo” Taylor 25(12KO)-2(1)-1 se convirtió en una víctima más del enrachado David Avanesyan, que le derrotó en sólo dos asaltos. Por ello, tanto desde el punto de vista de su carrera como de su estado anímico, Taylor tenía frente a sí un duelo muy importante ante su compatriota Martin Harkin 15(6KO)-4(3), en el cual no falló, imponiéndose por KOT en el cuarto asalto.
En el comienzo, Taylor se mostró preciso con su mano diestra, conectándola al ataque o a la contra, arriba o abajo, en directo o en cruzado. Esto llevó a Harkin a reaccionar, acortando los espacios y lanzando sus ganchos, si bien en el segundo asalto Taylor mantuvo más las acciones en la distancia media y media-larga a través de sus golpes rectos y frenó la progresión de su rival.
Es más, pese a algún directo o gancho zurdo de Harkin, en el tercer episodio “Dynamo” incrementó su intensidad ofensiva a través de combinaciones de hooks hasta que fijó en las cuerdas a su contrincante, que fue golpeado antes de poner la rodilla en la lona tras un gancho diestro. Harkin se levantó y llegó al descanso pero, aunque intentó contestar tenaz, en el cuarto round volvió a caer tras curvos abajo y arriba, siendo derribado por nuevos ganchos después de la reanudación. Finalmente, una nueva ofensiva de Taylor puso por cuarta vez en la lona a Harkin, deteniendo el árbitro el combate.
Además de capturar un cinturón menor WBO que le podría llevar al top 15 de dicho organismo, el enfrentamiento ante Harkin era una eliminatoria final para la disputa del campeonato británico del peso wélter. Así, doce meses después de haber sufrido un severo varapalo en su trayectoria, Taylor ha pasado a estar en una muy buena posición, que le garantiza como mínimo la disputa del campeonato británico wélter ante Ekow Essuman o contra un coaspirante si el titular deja su corona vacante.

A year ago, the British Liam “Dynamo” Taylor 25(12KO)-2(1)-1 became another victim of David Avanesyan, who defeated him in just two rounds. Therefore, both from the point of view of his career and his morale, Taylor faced a very important duel against his compatriot Martin Harkin 15(6KO)-4(3), clash in which he did not fail, scoring a TKO in the fourth round.
In the beginning, Taylor was accurate with his right hand, connecting it attacking or countering, up or down, in straight punch or in hook. This led Harkin to react, shortening the spaces and throwing hooks, although in the second round Taylor kept the actions in the medium and medium-long distance through his straight shots and slowed down his opponent’s progression.
Moreover, despite some straight rights or left hooks from Harkin, in the third episode «Dynamo» increased his offensive intensity through combinations of hooks until he put his opponent on the ropes. Then Taylor landed punches until Harkin put a knee on the canvas after a right hook. The downed fighter got up and reached the break but, although he tried to answer tenaciously, in the fourth round he touched the canvas again by hooks up and down and, after the restart, he was dropped by new hooks. Finally, a new attack by Taylor put Harkin on the mat for the fourth time, so the referee stopped the bout.
In addition to capturing a minor WBO belt that could put him in the top 15 of that sanctioning body, the match against Harkin was a final eliminator for the British welterweight championship. Thus, twelve months after having suffered a hard setback in his career, Taylor has reached a very good position, in which he has guaranteed a shot against Ekow Essuman for the British welterweight title or a fight against another challenger if the titleholder vacates his crown.
