Sunny Edwards will face the toughest fight of his career to date in defense of his flyweight belt against Félix Alvarado

As reported by multiple sources, and has been implicitly confirmed by the titlist himself, on November 11 IBF world flyweight champion Sunny “Showtime” Edwards 18(4KO)-0 will face what is on paper the most difficult fight of his career to date. That is because Edwards will face the very dangerous Nicaraguan Félix “El Gemelo” Alvarado 38(33KO)-2, former world light flyweight champion who has not lost a fight since 2014 and who has chained 20 consecutive victories, 18 of them by stoppage.

Numbers aside, Alvarado is a very aggressive and strong puncher who should make the fight against Edwards an excellent clash of styles. In it, the British monarch will not face a veteran in the last phase of his career like Mthalane or an inexperienced fighter like Jayson Mama or Muhammad Waseem, but he will have in front of him a fighter that, although moving up in weight, is having very good performances in the recent years and knows very well what it is to battle in a world championship.

Thus, Edwards, who says that Julio César Martínez refused to unify with him for fear of losing, will be forced to make full use of his ability, mobility and defense to try to beat an opponent against whom he can’t have so much overconfidence as he has had in his last fights.
