El olímpico croata Luka Plantić se anotó una arrolladora victoria en cuatro asaltos sobre el experimentado Ryno Liebenberg, demostrando con sólo tres peleas profesionales que en el futuro podría tener mucho que decir en el peso supermedio.

Como se podía prever, el campeonato mundial IBF del peso átomo entre Ayaka Miyao 25(6KO)-10(4)-2 y Mika Iwakawa 11(3KO)-6-1 resultó muy contendido y se resolvió por sólo un asalto de diferencia, logrando la victoria por decisión unánime (triple 96-94) la segunda de ambas. En cuanto al mundial por el cinturón WBO del peso átomo, la aspirante Yuko Kuroki 20(7KO)-7-2 no sólo ofreció una pugna difícil para la monarca Nanae Suzuki 11(1KO)-5(1)-1, sino que la destronó con una decisión unánime (doble 98-92 y un 97-93) en un duelo en el que tuvo momentos de gran boxeo.
Ahora lo lógico sería que Iwakawa y Kuroki unificasen sus cinturones mundiales, si bien, teniendo en cuenta la gran cantidad de oportunidades desperdiciadas para aunar coronas que han habido en la división, esto no es ni mucho menos algo inevitable o seguro.
Viernes 2 de septiembre
Con un triunfo por abandono en el sexto asalto sobre el olímpico alemán Serge Michel, el exaspirante mundial del peso crucero Nikodem Jezewski estabilizó su afectada carrera y se posicionó para una nueva pelea relevante.

Por otro lado, la controversia en la jornada del viernes llegó en el campeonato de la Commonwealth por el título femenino vacante del peso superpluma. Y es que Vicky Wilkinson hizo suficiente para merecer la victoria ante Kristine Shergold pero los jueces dieron un empate. Crónica y vídeo del combate siguiendo el enlace:

En este día se produjeron estos otros resultados:
-El exaspirante mundial del peso supermosca Jonathan “Titán” Rodríguez 24(16KO)-2 logró el triunfo ante Daniel “El Tubo” Ramírez 14(8KO)-6, si bien sólo por ajustada decisión mayoritaria (95-95, 95-94 y 99-93), algo que no le ayudará demasiado para apoyar sus aspiraciones en la categoría.
-El peso wélter argentino José Rosa 16(13KO)-0 logró la previsible victoria antes del límite venciendo por KOT en el quinto asalto al brasileño Anderson Dener 6(5KO)-2(1) y debería cerrar el año en un test muchísimo más serio.
Sábado 3 de septiembre
A pesar de anotarse un knockdown y de tener buenos momentos a través de su precisión y de su habilidad defensiva, Juan Francisco “El Gallo” Estrada sólo pudo derrotar a Argi Cortés a través de una cerrada decisión unánime. Aun así, el resultado le sirvió para mantener en pie la tercera pugna contra “Chocolatito” González.

En el combate coestelar de este evento, la campeona mundial WBA del peso pluma Erika Cruz volvió a vencer a la extitular Jelena Mrdjenovich, esta vez con todavía mayor claridad, y quizás podría alcanzar una pugna por el título indiscutido a finales de año.

El mejor enfrentamiento de la velada, y para muchos uno de los mejores del año, fue el campeonato mundial por el vacante cinto IBF del peso minimosca, pelea en la que Héctor Flores y Sivenathi Nontshinga batallaron sin descanso y en la que el segundo terminó coronado por cuestionable decisión dividida.

La cartelera principal del evento Estrada-Cortés se inició con el pegador del peso superpluma Eduardo Hernández explotando una vez más su pegada para vencer al invicto Jorge Mata.

Pasando al evento organizado por Boxxer, el exmonarca mundial Liam Smith derrotó por KOT en el cuarto round a Hassan Mwakinyo, pero el desenlace fue realmente decepcionante. El visitante Mwakinyo, ya fuese por una lesión o por que no tenía ganas de recibir más golpes, se arrodilló repentinamente en dos ocasiones antes de la detención arbitral.

Este combate fue precedido por la victoria de Natasha Jonas en el duelo de unificación de cinturones mundiales WBC-WBO del peso superwélter ante Patricia Berghult, a la que derrotó con una justa y amplísima decisión unánime. Por su parte, el bronce olímpico Frazer Clarke venció un duelo en el que su rival ni siquiera intentó resistir.

La cartelera principal también dejó una victoria por decisión unánime del campeón británico del peso semipesado Dan Azeez sobre Shakan Pitters y un rápido triunfo de Adam Azim sobre Michel Cabral.

Los siguientes combates también se desarrollaron el sábado:
-Aunque tuvo bastante trabajo para lograrlo, el peso mosca Riku Kano 20(10KO)-4(2)-1 venció por decisión unánime (doble 115-113 y un 116-112) al bravo y competente Yuga Inoue 13(2KO)-3(1)-1, por lo que subirá peldaños en el ranking WBO y se acercará un poco más a su sueño mundialista.
-También ascenderá posiciones en el ranking de la Organización del peso superpluma Albert Bell 22(6KO)-0, que logró una amplísima victoria por decisión unánime (doble 100-90 y un 99-91) sobre Nicolás “Pantera” Polanco 20(11KO)-3-1.
-El exigente combate para el peso supermedio Przemyslaw Gorgon 15(6KO)-10(4)-1 ante Gino Kanters 10(4KO)-4(1)-2 terminó con el primero derrotado por decisión mayoritaria (doble 96-94 y un 95-95), lo que ilustró una vez más la irregularidad del primero y las capacidades del segundo.
-Finalmente el peso supermedio Kevin Newman II 14(9KO)-3-1 no se midió a Christopher Pearson sino al sustituto con poco encaje Héctor Manuel Zepeda 21(7KO)-5(4), que fue derrotado por KOT en el séptimo round.
Domingo 4 de septiembre
El excampeón mundial del peso pesado Andy Ruiz derribó tres veces a un Luis Ortiz con un encaje realmente roto, pero fue incapaz de establecer un dominio de las acciones y se mostró increíblemente inactivo, así que el veterano púgil logró ajustar mucho las cartulinas.

El choque coestelar, eliminatoria WBC del peso ligero, fue vencido con tremenda facilidad por Isaac Cruz, que batió por KOT en el segundo asalto a Eduardo Ramírez.

En cuanto al regreso de Abner Mares, éste se tuvo que conformar con un empate ante Miguel Flores con el que sólo demostró lo que ya se sabía, o sea que debe permanecer retirado.

Thursday, September 1
Croatian Olympian Luka Plantić scored a four-round knockout victory over the experienced Ryno Liebenberg, showing in just three professional fights that in the future he could be an interesting contender at super middleweight. Read more following the link.
As could be predicted, the IBF atomweight world championship between Ayaka Miyao 25(6KO)-10(4)-2 and Mika Iwakawa 11(3KO)-6-1 was highly contested and ended with just one round difference in the scorecards, which were in favor of Iwakawa (unanimous decision, triple 96-94). As for the WBO atomweight world championship, the challenger Yuko Kuroki 20(7KO)-7-2 not only offered a difficult fight to the monarch Nanae Suzuki 11(1KO)-5(1)-1, but she even dethroned her with a unanimous decision (double 98-92 and 97-93) in a duel in which she had moments of very good boxing.
Now the logical thing would be for Iwakawa and Kuroki to fight against each other, although, considering the large number of wasted opportunities to unify in the division in the past years, this is by no means something inevitable or certain.
Friday, September 2
With a sixth round stoppage win over German Olympian Serge Michel, former cruiserweight world challenger Nikodem Jezewski stabilized his career and got closer to another relevant fight. Read more following the link.
The Mexican featherweight Cristian Cruz needed much less time to get rid off of his compatriot Pablo Robles, since he achieved victory in the first round. Article and video of the fight following the link.
On the other hand, the Commonwealth championship for the vacant female super featherweight title ended with controversy, as Vicky Wilkinson did enough to deserve the victory against Kristine Shergold but the judges scored the bout a draw. Article and video of the fight following the link.
These other bouts also took place on Friday:
-Former super flyweight world challenger Jonathan “Titán” Rodríguez 24(16KO)-2 beat Daniel “El Tubo” Ramírez 14(8KO)-6, albeit only by narrow majority decision (95-95, 95-94 and 99-93), something that will not help him much to support his aspirations in the division.
-Argentinian welterweight José Rosa 16(13KO)-0 scored a predictable stoppage win over Brazilian Anderson Dener 6(5KO)-2(1) with a TKO in the fifth round, and he should close the year in a much more serious test.
Saturday, September 3
Despite dropping his opponent once and having moments of good boxing through his accuracy and defensive ability, Juan Francisco “El Gallo” Estrada only defeated Argi Cortes with a close unanimous decision. Even so, the result served him to point now to the third fight against “Chocolatito” González. Read more following the link.
In the co-main event of this evening, WBA featherweight world champion Erika Cruz defeated former titleholder Jelena Mrdjenovich again (this time with even greater clarity) and perhaps she could reach a fight for the undisputed title at the end of the year. Read more following the link.
The best bout of the bill, and for many one of the best of the year, was the world championship for the vacant IBF light flyweight title. In this fight Héctor Flores and Sivenathi Nontshinga battled fiercely during twelve round before the latter ended up crowned by questionable split decision. Read more following the link.
The Estrada-Cortés main card kicked off with super featherweight puncher Eduardo Hernández once again exploiting his power to beat the undefeated Jorge Mata. Read more following the link.
Moving on to the event organized by Boxxer, former world champion Liam Smith defeated Hassan Mwakinyo by TKO in the fourth round, but the end was really disappointing. The visitor Mwakinyo, either because of an injury or because he didn’t feel like taking any more punches, suddenly knelt to the canvas twice before the referee’s stoppage. This match was preceded by Natasha Jonas‘ victory in a WBC-WBO super welterweight unification against Patricia Berghult, whom she defeated with a fair and wide unanimous decision. For his part, the Olympic bronze medalist Frazer Clarke won a duel in which his rival did not even try to resist. Read more following the link.
The main card also featured a unanimous decision victory for British light heavyweight champion Dan Azeez over Shakan Pitters and a quick win for Adam Azim over Michel Cabral. Read more following the link.

-Although he had to work a lot, flyweight Riku Kano 20(10KO)-4(2)-1 defeated by unanimous decision (double 115-113 and a 116-112) the brave and competent Yuga Inoue 13(2KO)- 3(1)-1, so he will climb positions in the WBO ranking and will get a little closer to a world title fight.
–Albert Bell 22(6KO)-0 will also move up in the WBO list, in his case at super featherweight, since he achieved a wide victory by unanimous decision (double 100-90 and a 99-91) over Nicolás “Pantera” Polanco 20(11KO )-3-1.
-The demanding fight for super middleweight Przemyslaw Gorgon 15(6KO)-10(4)-1 against Gino Kanters 10(4KO)-4(1)-2 ended with the former losing by majority decision (double 96-94 and a 95-95), result that once again proved the irregularity of the Polish and the capabilities of the visitor.
-Finally, super middleweight Kevin Newman II 14(9KO)-3-1 did not face Christopher Pearson but the substitute with chin issues Héctor Manuel Zepeda 21(7KO)-5(4), who was defeated by TKO in the seventh round.
Sunday, September 4
Former heavyweight world champion Andy Ruiz knocked down three times Luis Ortiz (who has serious punch resistance problems) but was unable to take control of the actions and was incredibly inactive with his hands, so the veteran managed to reduce a lot the difference in the scorecards. In the co-main event, a WBC lightweight eliminator, Isaac Cruz achieved a very easy win over Eduardo Ramírez, who was beaten by TKO in the second round. Read more following the link.
