El olímpico Luka Plantić apabulló al veterano Ryno Liebenberg en su tercera pelea profesional

La división del peso supermedio cuenta actualmente con múltiples boxeadores en ascenso muy interesantes, debiéndose sumar a ellos el olímpico croata Luka Plantić 3(3KO)-0, púgil de 25 años que en su tercer combate profesional derribó cuatro veces al resistente y experimentado sudafricano Ryno “The Lion” Liebenberg 22(14KO)-10(3)-1 para asestarle la derrota más rápida de su carrera con un knockout en el cuarto asalto.
El visitante intentó acortar los espacios y usar sus curvos en corta, pero sus ataques se desordenaron, terminando en clinches, y Plantić le contragolpeó con contundencia y le sacó del centro del ring con tensos jabs, que incluso sacudieron a Liebenberg. Tanta era la diferencia en potencia de uno y otro que, todavía en el primer round, un gancho zurdo en corta puso en el tapiz a Liebenberg.
Éste se alzó e intentó seguir peleando, pero el dominio del croata se expandió, conectando en el segundo round duros uno-dos-hook y variados curvos arriba y abajo hasta que con otra combinación de rectos terminada en gancho de mano adelantada derribó por segunda vez a “The Lion”. El tercer knockdown no se haría esperar, ya que Plantić conectó un potente hook de izquierda arriba sucedido por otro diestro que derrumbaron de nuevo a Liebenberg.
Como siempre, el sudafricano fue valiente, y en el tercer asalto volvió a tratar de atacar, pero Plantić le abrumó con fuertes y nítidos ganchos que pusieron las bases para el final: en el cuarto episodio, Liebenberg fue alcanzado por una izquierda a la contra y se dejó caer de manera extraña a la lona, pareciendo que más que aturdido no tenía ganas de seguir siendo apaleado.
Una y otra vez derrotas de prospectos en pasos adelante nos recuerdan que hay que ser cauteloso respecto a las proyecciones que se hacen sobre los púgiles prometedores. Además, Plantić cometió algunos descuidos ante un Liebenberg que está en el tramo final de su carrera. Pero si un boxeador con buena carrera amateur puede rendir a ese nivel en su tercera pelea profesional, parece difícil que en el futuro no vaya a aparecer en el top 15 de algún organismo y que dispute peleas relevantes.
Por otro lado, después de que la gran promesa del boxeo croata Filip Hrgović tuviese muchas dificultades en su test ante Zhilei Zhang, el surgimiento de Luka Plantić dará motivación a los aficionados de su país, que podría estar viviendo un momento muy importante en su historia boxística.

The super middleweight division currently has many very interesting prospects, to which must be included Croatian Olympian Luka Plantić 3(3KO)-0, a 25-year-old boxer who, in his third professional fight, knocked down four times the tough and experienced South African Ryno “The Lion” Liebenberg 22(14KO)-10(3)-1 dealing him the quickest loss of his career with a fourth-round knockout.
The visitor tried to shorten the distance and use his hooks at close range, but his attacks were messy, ending in clinches, and Plantić countered him hard and took him out of the center of the ring with powerful jabs, which even rocked Liebenberg. The difference in power between the two was obvious and, still in the first round, a short left hook put Liebenberg on the mat.
Liebenberg got up and tried to keep fighting, but the Croatian’s dominance increased, connecting in the second round hard one-two-hooks and varied hooks up and down until another combination of straight shots, finished with a lead hook, dropped “The Lion” for the second time. The third knockdown came shortly after, as Plantić landed a powerful left hook up followed by a right hook that sent Liebenberg to the canvas again.
As always, the South African was brave, and in the third round he even tried to move forward, but Plantić overwhelmed him with sharp, hard hooks that set the stage for the end: in the fourth round, Liebenberg was hit by a counter left hook and he fell to the mat strangely, looking like, more than being dazed, he didn’t want to continue being beaten.
Time and time again defeats of prospects in step-up bouts remind us to be cautious about projections regarding up-and-coming fighters. In addition, Plantić made some mistakes in defense against a boxer who is in the final stretch of his career. But if a boxer with a good amateur career can perform at that level in his third professional fight, it seems very likely that in the future he will appear in the top 15 of some organization and will fight in relevant matches.
On the other hand, after the best Croatian prospect Filip Hrgović had many difficulties in his test against Zhilei Zhang, the emergence of Luka Plantić will give motivation to boxing fans in the country, which could be living a very important moment in its boxing history.
