Si hay algo de suerte, y se abandonan de una vez por todas los artificiales movimientos en el calendario que se están buscando de forma deliberada con este combate, dentro de entre cuatro y seis meses deberíamos ver por fin la tercera pugna entre el nicaragüense Román “Chocolatito” González y el mexicano Juan Francisco “El Gallo” Estrada 42(28KO)-3. Sin embargo, por ahora, y con la pelea ante Joshua Franco descartada por el «Gallo», no nos quedará otra que conformarnos con un combate de rodaje que Estrada disputará este sábado.
Su rival en este duelo del peso supermosca, que encabezará una velada de Matchroom Boxing y Zanfer Boxing desde el Centro de Usos Múltiples de Hermosillo, México, será su compatriota Argi Cortés 23(10KO)-2-2, un boxeador capaz, joven y que seguramente abordará con mucha ambición esta mayor pelea de su carrera. No obstante, si bien Cortés encadena 11 triunfos y difícilmente ofrecerá una pugna sin esfuerzo, éste tiene una importantísima desventaja en experiencia y, de hecho, nunca ha peleado más allá del octavo asalto.
Dicho de otro modo, y teniendo en cuenta que su triunfo sobre Israel González fue hace tiempo y que sólo pudo empatar ante Joel Córdova, si Cortés ha sido seleccionado como rival de Estrada es debido a que debería darle una pelea con cierta acción y trabajo pero, en teoría, sin llegar a suponer un riesgo decisivo para los objetivos del favorito. Esto es algo que parece encajar también valorando el estilo de Cortés que, aunque en el pasado fue bastante agresivo, actualmente suele combatir de forma más táctica, medida y con acciones seleccionadas cuidadosamente.
Por lo tanto, si esta no es una de esas ocasiones en las que “El Gallo” baja su nivel boxístico ante un reto por debajo de la élite, o si Cortés no intenta plantear una intensa y exigente batalla de desgaste, Estrada debería poder utilizar su gran técnica, su astucia y su variedad de recursos para llevarse la mejor parte de forma sostenida y lograr una victoria por decisión.
Revancha titular
En abril de 2021, como parte de los eventos de la interesante, pero finalmente fallida, iniciativa Ring City USA, la mexicana Erika “Dinamita” Cruz 14(3KO)-1 logró impulsar su carrera de forma decisiva destronando a la canadiense Jelena Mrdjenovich 41(19KO)-11-2, ganadora de más de una decena de peleas mundialistas y exmonarca unificada. Dado que Mrdjenovich es una púgil tan relevante y el desenlace del choque fue por decisión técnica, desde entonces se habló de una posible revancha, que finalmente tendrá lugar en este evento.
El hecho de que Cruz estuviese imponiéndose muy claramente antes del final hace inevitable que parta como favorita en esta revancha a la que Mrdjenovich accede tras casi un año y medio de inactividad. En cualquier caso, la exmonarca es una púgil que suele embarrar las pugnas, que tiende a provocar choques de cabezas y que es brava y combativa, por lo que Cruz no deberá dar nada por sentado y necesitará volver a apoyarse sólidamente en sus precisos golpes de poder a la contra para tratar de volver a castigar decisivamente las entradas de Mrdjenovich.
Un posible rival para Kyoguchi
El campeón mundial WBA del peso minimosca Hiroto Kyoguchi está esperando a que Matchroom Boxing le encuentre un titular que quiera unificar. Un buen candidato para ello será el campeón mundial IBF del peso minimosca que saldrá del duelo por el título vacante entre el invicto mexicano Héctor Flores 20(10KO)-0-4 y el también imbatido sudafricano Sivenathi “Special One” Nontshinga 10(9KO)-0.
Esta es evidentemente una oportunidad de oro para ambos que, más allá de la posibilidad de una unificación, podrían coronarse ante las miradas de una amplia audiencia internacional. Para ello, Flores necesitará evitar las dudas y atacar con fiereza y un ritmo alto para intentar desbordar a un Nontshinga hábil, móvil, con largo alcance y peligrosos golpes aislados y que, por lo tanto, se beneficiaría de un choque pausado y con acciones puntuales.
Finalmente, en el cartel también estará presente el noqueador mexicano del peso superpluma Eduardo “Rocky” Hernández 32(29KO)-1(1), 5º WBC que intentará acercarse un paso más al top 3 de dicho organismo peleando por un título menor contra su invicto compatriota Jorge Mata 14(10KO)-0-2, que disputará, por mucho, la mayor pelea de su carrera hasta la fecha.
Este evento será emitido por DAZN desde las 2:00 de la madrugada del sábado al domingo en España, las 20:00 ET/17:00 PT, mientras que en México lo televisará Azteca 7 desde las 19:00 en hora de Ciudad de México.

If there is any luck, and the artificial movements in the calendar that are deliberately sought with this fight are abandoned once and for all, in between four and six months we should finally see the third fight between the Nicaraguan Román » Chocolatito” González and the Mexican Juan Francisco “El Gallo” Estrada 42(28KO)-3. However, for now, and with the fight against Joshua Franco ruled out by Estrada, we will have no choice but to settle for the match that the latter will face this Saturday.
His opponent in this super flyweight duel, which will headline a Matchroom Boxing and Zanfer Boxing evening from the Centro de Usos Múltiples in Hermosillo, Mexico, will be his compatriot Argi Cortés 23(10KO)-2-2, a capable, young boxer that will surely approach this biggest fight of his career with great ambition. Nevertheless, although Cortés has 11 straight wins and will offer a demanding bout, he has a very important disadvantage in experience and, in fact, has never fought beyond the eighth round.
In other words, and taking into account that his victory over Israel González was a long time ago and that he could only draw against Joel Córdova, if Cortés has been selected as Estrada’s rival it is because he should give him a fight with some action and work but, in theory, without being a decisive risk for the objectives of the favorite. For this goal, Cortés’ style also seems to fit appropriately, since, although in the past was quite aggressive, nowadays is usually more tactical and selects his actions carefully.
Therefore, if this is not one of those occasions in which «El Gallo» lowers his boxing level against a fighter below the elite, or if Cortés does not try to generate an intense and tough battle of attrition, Estrada should be able to use his great technique, his cunning and his variety of tactical resources to get the upper hand consistently and achieve a decision victory.
Rematch for world title
In April 2021, as part of the events of the interesting but ultimately unsuccessful initiative Ring City USA, Mexican Erika “Dinamita” Cruz 14(3KO)-1 boosted decisively her career by dethroning the Canadian Jelena Mrdjenovich 41(19KO)-11-2, winner of more than a dozen world title fights and former unified monarch. Given that Mrdjenovich is such a relevant fighter and that the end of the duel came by technical decision, since then there has been talk of a possible rematch, which will finally take place in this event.
The fact that Cruz was winning very clearly before the conclusion makes it inevitable for her to be considered favorite in this rematch, specially with Mrdjenovich coming from almost a year and a half of inactivity. In any case, the former monarch is a fighter who tends to create messy fights with usual head clashes and who is brave and combative, so Cruz should not take anything for granted and will need to once again use firmly her precise power punches to try to answer Mrdjenovich’s attacks and punish her.
A possible rival for Kyoguchi
The WBA world light flyweight champion Hiroto Kyoguchi is waiting for Matchroom Boxing to find him a titlist willing to unify. A good candidate will be the IBF world light flyweight champion who will come out of the duel for the vacant belt between the undefeated Mexican Héctor Flores 20(10KO)-0-4 and the unbeaten South African Sivenathi “Special One” Nontshinga 10(9KO)-0.
This is obviously a great opportunity for both fighters since, beyond the possibility of an unification, they could be crowned in a bout watched by a wide international audience. To conquer the title, Flores will need to avoid doubting and look to attack fiercely and at a high pace to try to overwhelm Nontshinga, who is skillful, mobile, has long range and is dangerous with isolated shots, and so, therefore, would benefit from a slow bout with selected actions.
Finally, in the bill will also participate the Mexican super featherweight puncher Eduardo “Rocky” Hernández 32(29KO)-1(1), 5th WBC who will try to get one step closer to the top 3 of said organization fighting for a minor title against his undefeated compatriot Jorge Mata 14(10KO)-0-2, who will face by far the biggest fight of his career to date.
This event will be broadcast by DAZN from 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT, 1:00 a.m. in the United Kingdom, while in Mexico it will be televised by Azteca 7 from 7:00 p.m. in Mexico City time.
